This is a tremendous hire by Louisville and a major (but expected) loss for the Gators. Strong is an excellent coordinator and an other-worldly recruiter. It's thought that his decision to become a head coach at Louisville helped sway Jeff Luc to Florida State. He might also take Billy Gonzalez with him, which would further hurt UF's recruiting machine.

When thinking about the DC search, keep in mind the name Phil Parker. I identified him last December, but had forgot by the time we conducted our DC search. Parker is considered an up and comer and has been schooled under some of the finest defensive minds out there, including Nick Saban (Mich State '87 and Toldeo 1990, where Saban brought him over to be his DB coach) and Norm Parker (Saban's OLB coach & Defensive Coordinator at Michigan State and now at Iowa for 10 years). Iowa also gives their top recruiting territory to Parker, and he is 46 years old. Iowa plays great defense every year despite very mediocre talent. In addition, his head coach, Kirk Ferentz, is a Belichik/ Saban guy, so he would be used to working in a Fisher type organizational environment.

"...just a week after Bowden's retirement, few thought Jimbo Fisher and the Noles would be this hot on the recruiting trail."

"FSU claimed the No. 19 slot in our recent class rankings with three ESPNU 150 prospects [they were 37th the day Bowden announced his retirement]. Now, with the addition of this class' premier inside linebacker and potential top corner, if they land Lamarcus Joyner (Miami/Saint Thomas Aquinas), it could crack the top-10 on signing day. Jimbo Fisher appears to following in his predecessor's steps as the new closer."

Beginning in 2010 the SEC is moving exclusively to ESPN since the Big 10 now has their own network. Another major shift in college football television rights comes as a result of the NBC Universal/Comcast merger that could see Notre Dame losing their deal with NBC. There is no doubt that gaining the rights to basketball and football would put Fox Sports at the forefront of college sports coverage.

For the ACC, this is a huge deal that could vault the conference back into the national spotlight.

I'm not sure how much to trust this source, but he has published 386 previous articles. Big news if true.

Within two hours of yesterday’s official team announcement that the West Virginia Mountaineers would face the Florida State Seminoles in the January 1, 2010 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl, the New Year’s Day Bowl game sold out in record time.

"The interest in this game has been overwhelming and has surpassed all expectations," said Daniel Kennedy Murphy, Gator Bowl Chairman.

And yet other ACC teams continue to complain. Non-Nat'l Championship bowl games are all about making money, and FSU sells the seats that BC, UNC, Miami, etc., would not.

Story discusses Jeff Luc at length. Talks about how Luc wanted to get opportunities for other kids on his team. This article was done before Luc committed.
