Waggle Room Why are we being force fed Ricky Fowler?

First let me say that i have enjoyed Ricky Fowler this year.  He has a very (BRIGHT) future on tour, and the sky's the limit, but............., why can't we let him develop?  Why can't we wait for Ricky to maybe WIN?  Why can't we keep the kid hungry for success, and the spoils which accompany that success?  Why do we throw all this notoriety, and expectations at these kids before they actually EARN the bounty?  I mean Ricky has had a fine rookie season on tour.  He's contended a lot (especially early in the year), and he looks like a future champion. But, he's not there just yet, and that's alright, as he's only 12.....um......21 years old.   Now it even seems as if Corey Pavin, HAD to pick him for the Ryder Cup team.  He's just now old enough to drink weak american beer, and we're going to through him to the world of guinness.  It's like the Euros had their kid, so we had to sport our pup. Well that's fine, but..........., Why?  What's wrong with a little seasoning, a little marinade, a little time?  What's wrong with the kid tasting a little disappointment?  If Ricky hadn't been picked for this team, i believe it would've been motivation for him to EARN his spot in two years.  If we let the young man get a taste of winning, before we tout him the next best thing, wouldn't that at least keep him focused on the real prize?  Oh well, i hype......er......hope for Ricky's sake that he is a self motivated young man, because we sure haven't done much to keep him hungry.  I will be rooting for young Ricky, but i'm wary of the "too much..too soon" pressure we've put on those still developing shoulders.  Hell, isn't he going to miss the next Justin (whatever that new kid's name is) concert?  Oh well,  Go get 'em Ricky even if you're not ready.  Kick  wee Rory's "fancy" little arse.

Waggle Room Will Phil EVER! win an Open Championship?

"America's golfer" just came close "again" in the nations Open championship.  Phil Mickelson was right there "again", but managed to let the U.S. Open slip through his grips.  Yes it happened "again".  And now the World's perennial #2 golfer has turned 40 years old, and the question now must be officially pondered "again".  Will Phil..........EVER.......win an Open Championship?  The quest now moves to St. Andrews the home of golf, and i'm sure the fans here, and abroad will predict Phil to win the Open championship, and why not.  He's crazy long, and as gifted a golfer as there has ever been.  Man, and the short game, well.......... to die for. Which leaves us with the question "again".  Why hasn't Phil..........EVER.......won an open championship?  He's conquered Augusta National.  Has been runnerup at the U.S. Open more than anyone in history, and has been one of the world's greatest golfer's for over a decade.  What's keeping Phil from being an Open champion?  He's prepared as could be.  He has more teachers than most universities.  His clubs are really.....tailor made.  He has the nation behind him.   He's been beaten by Payne Stewart, Tiger Woods, and lesser known Champions.  He has been right there time and time again.  Will Phil EVER! win an Open Championship?  Contrary to rumor; I'd like to see him do it, but i fear he may not.  One thing for sure though, his pursuit will be both entertaining, and gut wrenching.  Now the clock is officially ticking.  "America's golfer" Phil Mickelson,  is a fortysomething now,  tick tick. Which leaves us with the question..........."Again"............... Will Phil.........EVER! ...........win an Open Championship?

Waggle Room Who wants to be #1

Well it's obvious now that the #2 golfer in the world is scared sh#%less of the title World's #1 golfer.  His recent disappearing acts whenever he had the chance to seize the day have been laughably pathetic.  9 months at the end of 2008 through early 2009, and now 6 months since Escalade-gate.  We're not asking him to beat the man......to be the man........Just be the man.  Who else.  Sergio?? Ernie?? Who wants to be # 1?  Okay...that's too hard a question!!  How's about who is the best golfer in the World right now? Is it Ernie with 2 wins this year?  Is it Jim Furyk with the same.  Is this all some sort of parity gone bad? or is the term "heavy is the head that wears the crown?"  too much to risk.

I say we determine the World's #1 at a year end challenge.  Make the Fedex Cup more meaningful, and make the Race to Dubai more significant.  Attach importance the the challenges.  The winner of each in a 36 hole match play match.  Win the whole thing, and you're #1......For the year......I mean the World's #1 golfer has been in a (self-imposed) Mess for 6 months, and noone has stepped up and seized his title.  Noone has dared say.........I'm number 1.  So let us crown a champion even if he doesn't want the crown; because this middling pack is not inspiring, or enthralling in the least.  Hey #2 win this week and you're #1.....um........MC.... tie 114th.  No thanks.  #2 suits me just fine.  I've never been #1......I'm rich, and you (the True Golf Fans) have dubbed me (America's Golfer) Look what happens when you're #1 anyway.

Waggle Room Deja vu....all over again.

Recently while watching the Movie "Deja vu" I realized that it paralled this coming year in Golf, and some of the blogging on this site.  My friend em66 will see the irony in this. The rest of you please bear with me on this one. The movie is based in New Orleans aka.  "Nawlins".The Story begins on a ferry with  the song "When the Saints Go Marching In" playing.  Soon there is an awful explosion aboard the ferry, and the story begins..........

Anywho..... the golfing story starts in the year 2000, where it just so happens  the first three Major venues were Augusta, Pebble Beach, and St. Andrews.  During that fateful year in Golf a young prodigy had (Arguably) the greatest season in Golf History.  Winning the U.S. Open by 15 (strokes) lol. (couldn't help myself) at Pebble Beach, and running away with the Open Championship at St. Andrews, then capping the year by  winning one of the greatest duels in Golf against Bob May, at the PGA Championship.  Among his other victims on the course that year was Ernie Els (The Big Easy) ........Who Dat??

In the Movie,  the hero is an ATF agent who is trying to solve the case of the Ferry explosion.  Long story short he learns of a way to go back in time, which sends him on a journey to catch the killer, and save a fair "Nawlins" lady.  Now my friend (Not a beignet) "3 irons " would call this a fraud, but it's just a movie, or later just golf, so i'll continue.  Anyway the hero goes back in time, and solves the case, and yes saves the "fair Nawlins Lady".

Fast forward to 2010 in Golf.  The U.S. Open is returning to Pebble Beach, and the Open is returning to St. Andrews, and our hero is now aboard his (i'm stretching here) "Ferry", and there has been a terrible explosion, and the music has stopped.  Now i just think our hero, who in this case caused the explosion; must look back in time, and try to replicate his heroics, via his own "Deja vu."  What with his "privacy"  lost.....no 66er not the yacht......(you wish), but his personal privacy,  good name, ego, and persona all damaged.  Yet,  "Deja vu" may be just around the corner, and the music can play again.  Golf may be his savior, and the "Big Easy" will be there.  Along with all the other victims he's been killing.  and we will all be watching.  Maybe the Golfer will find out how important the game really is to him.  Who Dat??? You all know who.  "Deja vu"

Waggle Room If a Tiger Falls in the Woods, Does anybody hear it??

Our Fair Tiger has fallen on his....ahem......sword.  It is obvious the lad was suffering from I can get away with it 'itis.   Now that he has been.....um.....exposed, well let's just say his face is RED, but not that familiar victory hue we're all used to.  So what to do now el tigre?  Well my man i offer this;  get on with it man.  Come out of the.....er......Woods, or in your case "bushes" and just man up.  You got caught.  You're not the first and you surely won't be the last.  Time to be pro-active. Don't go on Oprah, that's too easy. Go on Limbaugh. Even though he'd like to really slam you, he can't.  You see, he's human too, and the sound you'll hear is his closet swinging open.  Or, go on Ellen's show you can talk to her, she's been out of her closet for some time now + she's probably the only other person who has been with more blondes than you.  You see man this is the deal. You've been knocked from heaven, and you landed on earth.  Talk to us humans, and we'll move on. Come out of the Woods, or closet, or desert, or yacht, or wherever.......We will hear you, and accept your apology.....But do it soon, because the next fall you can take will land you in Hell.....even if it's here on earth. Peace.
