Who are we?
The Falcons/Packers recap mentioned that we are a team trying to find our identity and I'm sure all of us can agree with that. After watching the first 5 games of our season I've come to the conclusion that maybe we aren't the same balanced offense we were the last few seasons. I think the Justin Peele injury has kind of been forgotten because we can't be as effective in those 2 tight end sets without him. Julio is a tremendous talent and assuming Roddy White can limit the drops this passing game has no ceiling. Assume the worst this weekend and pretend were 2-4. Coordinators are all over the hot seat right now, if were 2-4 looking for alternative options might not be a bad idea. Matt Ryan is a bright quarterback with a rocket arm lets let him prove he can be an elite quarterback. The key to changing systems is personal and we have the personal to go be a spread team like the Patriots or the Saints. I'm just suggesting we try someone with an explosive offense approach, and see what they can do with all our weapons.
- Mike Martz (CHI)
- Mike Shula (CAR)
- Tom Clements (GB)
- Kevin Sumlin (HOU)
Defensively were not bad enough it would hold us back from winning a Super Bowl...if we are good enough offensively. We've been having the same problems since BVG has gotten here and until he leaves it really doesn't matter who we put on the field. We're lacking a defensive identity other than soft zones, dirty hits, and terrible blitzing but a good coaching change could fix all of that. Talent wise there is no reason why we shouldn't be at least a top 15 defense, but we continue to get passed on by any quarterback whose started a high school game before. Our line is good enough to get pressure despite how they have looked this season. Weatherspoon has been the bright spot this year and Lofton is the captain of the defense. There's no way we should get lit up for over 300 yards every game because out secondary just isn't that bad. We traded those picks to get Julio because he was the missing piece. No matter what the numbers say I just don't think we need to redraft the defense because if you find the right coach the talent is already here.
- Steve Spagnola (STL) - I think he could be fired this year although the injuries aren't his fault. He'd be a steal IMO
- Jerome Henderson (CLE)
- Mike Singletary (MIN)
Rough Day?
Because of the fact so many people have passed on Griffen you can't get but so upset. Clearly something is wrong with him. That being said Corey Peters??? The best thing they said about him were his grades. Assuming something definately is wrong with Griffen I feel as if they had to go with Decker with that pick. Our defense looks pretty solid now. I'm not saying it's flawless because it has its holes but DT was not one of them. Eric Decker is a legitiment 6"4 reciever with great hands and very explosive play making skills. With Matt Ryan under center behind a great line and a very good ground game that is very difficult to stop in itself but then you add another good reciever to compliment White and Gonzalez and that's almost impossible to stop.
I think we kind of just wasted that pick because odds are he won't be seeing much field time. But all in all our defense should be pretty solid next year especially if Sidbury can step up. Everyone is sleeping on him and his kid while undersized is extremely fast and a very hard worker. Despite Beirman and Davis playing well last year I would not at all be surprised if Sidbury gets significant field time this year and maybe even start in his near future.
Give Francoeur A Break
He had a horrible season last year, one might even say abismal but he is only 24. You guys pick more on frenchy than the Mets and Phillies combine. C'mon this guy is still our teammate at least show him a little loyality. It's not like he cost us the world series or something I mean god. He had one bad year on a mediocre at best team. Lets just try to quit bombing on frenchy (at least lay off alittle bit) and try to focus on winning this year and many years to come.
Nnamdi Asomugha
If for whatever reason the Raiders don't resign him and/or put a franchise tag on him I definatley say go for him. We need alot of help in the secondary, he will be 28 at the start of the season, and he is one of the elite corners in football. The guys 6 foot 3 which is great because he will be able to keep up with Steve Smith and he will be tall enough to play with Colsten. This would also help out Houston alot because he is just not a #1 corner but he would be fine at number 2. Odds are he will be resigned anyways but if he is not this is just something to think about.

Orlando Hudson?
Metsblog.com said the Braves are trying to acquire Orlando Hudson. Is this true? I wouldn't want Hudson. He is going to get more money than he is worth, he hits for no power, he is not a threat on the base paths, and we have Kelly Johnson. I understand we would probably just move KJ to left field but why waste money on Hudson when we could go spend alittle bit more on somebody useful like Dunn. Anyway the point of this post was to find out if my sources are true and we are making a push at O-dawg, but I would also like to hear people's opinions on the potential signing.
This Is Kind Of A Response To Coachg3's Post
We are not the Yankees. If we go out and sign, and trade for big money players what happens in 3,4,5 years when they are done. If we trade for a guy like Peavy for example we have just drastically hurt are farm. Once our big money guys retire we can't just sign more when they are done because nobody except the yankees can go do that. Thats the thing if we have a good farm we can be good for along time, once our prospects come up we can just keep building, and building. But if we spend money on free agents we lose draft picks and farm players and we MIGHT have a good 2 or 3 year run but after that we have to start all over again with a few miserable seasons.
What do you think of acquiring Bobby Abreu?
I'm new to the site so I am not sure if you have debated this topic before, but what do you think of getting Bobby Abreu. Since 03' the guy has put up 100 rbi's and 95+ runs every year. We need a power hitting outfielder until heyward comes up and granted his HR numbers have been up and down I think he can still get the job done. He is also a lock for atleast 20 steals. I like this guy alot because he has experience playing left field (in Houston), right field (Philly & New York), and alittle bit of center in both citys.
