As Usual, Witten is Right (re: The Toomer Commentary)

There's a reason why this guy is called The Senator. All of these guys, Romo included, should block out the noise and chatter, good or bad, and concentrate on the job.

A Nice Story About Family Bonding Over the 'Boys.

This is about a guy who stars on CSI. Hollywood hasn't dimmed his Cowboys love, which is awesome. My dad and I did a lot of bonding over the Cowboys, too, so this story strikes a chord.

The Cowboys and the Supplemental Draft.

I don't know much about this process, but it's coming up.

For All of the Negativity About Romo...

It's been a weird off season. Coming on the heels of (arguably) Romo's best season, negative comments about him from disgruntled former Cowboys and the usual media suspects have gotten a lot of press. The linked slide show highlights some nice comments from former players, current players, some in the media, and ownership (feel free to ignore Canty, Deion, and TO). It's not all bad, folks.

Yet Another QB (Jaws) Appreciates Romo's Abilities

Some will complain he's not ranked higher, but what Jaws says is, nonetheless, very complimentary and on a par with what other QBs have said about him.

Can Someone Translate for Me?

This is from Brett Favre. I get that he said something nice about Romo in the first part, but the second part totally confuses me. What is he saying? Is he criticizing the coaches? "As for Dallas' Tony Romo, perhaps the most similar to Favre in his tendency to improvise against the grain before and after a play has broken down, the future Hall-of-Famer sees a lot of the young Favre in Romo, of whom more is expected all the time. His comment on Romo was interesting in its seeming dismissal of the Cowboys' offensive coaching staff. "Romo is probably more like me than any of those guys," Favre said. "Way too much is cast upon him — good, bad. It's Dallas and much is expected. He's carried those guys. But I'm watching last year — and I like Tony, I like the way he plays, at times he's underrated — but I'm watching and right before the snap, he's telling guys [to get into position and they don't know what they're doing.] "How in the world are you going to have a positive play when the ball is coming and you're telling a guy [to get into position, the ball is snapped] and then he'll make something out of nothing. That's part of being a great quarterback is sometimes it's not going to go. As a coach, they would love to sit there and say, 'It's going to be five steps, you're going to hitch up into a perfect pocket, you're going to look at number one — no; you're going to go to number two — no.' It doesn't work that way."

Sturm on Cowboys Discourse

Interesting, as always.

Jerry and Dez.

Well, interesting, to say the least.

Carr Already on "Cruz Control."

Let's hope he can back this up.

Yeah, About the O Line? I Really, Really Don't Get it.

Jones, based on that endless interview he gave, is talking like he's basically done with changing up the O line. I hope it's just Jerry being a blowhard as usual and the work isn't done. If it's not, I have to wonder if Romo will be worried again.

Off-Season Activities Getting Ready to Start!

Something to talk about before the draft, anyway.

Woodson Says Cowboys Had Bounties, Too. Sort of.

It wasn't intended to maim anyone, and it was not sanctioned, organized, or funded by the team or coaching staff. It was loosely organized by the players themselves. Still, some folks theorized that everyone was going to get caught up in this. Guess so.

Uuuuuugh. Games Abroad.

Awesome way to wear out your team, Jerry. Mexico isn't bad, since it's not far and the time change is non-existent or minimal, but London? Really?

Mario Manningham Moving On?

Dunno if this site has a clue, or if anyone really cares, but it says he is expected to sign with the Bucs.

Update on Kosier and Murray Rehab.

Sounds to me like Kosier could be back.

DeMarcus Ware's Reaction to Jason Hatcher

Public statement met with public statement. I'll say it again; I wish it were all in house.

Sturm's Detailed Analysis of the O line Play This Season, Player by Player

Very revealing discussion of the deterioration of the Cowboys O line play as the season progressed (with an aside on how much better the Giants line was playing later in the season). Not a surprise, of course. If reliable stats could be had on pressures and hits on the QB, this would likely look even worse.

UGH . I Owe Jerry an Apology.

That's what I get for reading not just Watkins or PFT, but Jone's very own Mothership (could they please get an editor?). I should know to go to the source, which is the original interview. No one in the press, that I know of, got it right. Jerry steps on his own tongue often enough that I bought it completely that he'd done it again. Props to those who questioned the reports, and my bad for arguing with you. He did not bash Romo or even compare Romo unfavorably to Dumb Face.

Retitled: "Hey, Jerry, could you STFU?" Love, Fernie.

If Jones is willing to dis one of the few bright spots on the team publicly, he may not plan on having Romo around after the latter's contract expires year after next. Me? I think Jerry needs to look in the mirror if he wants to pinpoint to the biggest difference between the Giants and the Cowboys. Thanks to texstar for calling my attention to this. Edited: Couldn't resist the retitling after a good night's sleep. :)

Houck Foresees Free-Smith Switch.

He makes some interesting comments about Free.

Two Questions for the Knowledgeable Amongst Us.

The first is, is it easier to develop a rookie CB or DE? In other words, would the Cowboys be better off drafting a pass rusher first and picking up CB's in free agency if they want players to...

America's Team? Whatever. Ratings gold? Yup.

Credit where credit is due. Got the link from a Sturm post on Twitter.

Sturm Turns His Lasers on the O Line. Again.

Awesome analysis. They are wasting the prime of a difficult to find QB who can play at a very high level by not providing him the protection in key moments like many of the successful QBs in this league enjoy. Damn right.
