That would only happen if Cleveland had the #1 pick--and that is unlikely this year.

I actually think there's a pretty good possibility that either Orlando or Milwaukee will pick Marcus Smart. It's rumored that Orlando would have picked Smart last year had he declared.

Oh--I forgot Denver. The front office there isn't looking too bright after what they did last summer. And they have a few assets.

No one would do a trade for Rondo for one year. If the Jazz traded for him, it would be contingent on him signing an extension.

Under my fantasy scenario, Rondo would basically be replacing Trey Burke and Andrew Wiggins would be replacing Gordon Hayward.

At this point in time, Rondo is better than Bledsoe, especially in running an offense, but Bledsoe is much younger and hopefully could grow into running a team.
Commented on NBA Draft Lottery: NBA PR report Utah Jazz beat Boston Celtics in 'coin flip' on Apr 18 2014, 4:36p
He would probably agree to an extension if he could play with a good team again. I think the Jazz are way ahead of Boston on time frame in that regard.

The Jazz would only do the trade if Rondo would agree to an extension, of course.

Yeah, but other than Lowry, Dragic and perhaps Bledsoe, there is no chance in hell you could get any of those other guys. Rondo might be available for the right price.

Nothing. He has improved his outside shooting, but there is not much evidence at the current time that he has the ability to consistently shoot 3 point shots, which is what he would need to do as a SF.

Rondo is an all-star, top-5 NBA point guard who can run a team and play defense. You have to give up assets to get assets. The biggest problem with that suggested trade in my opinion is that the Celtics most likely wouldn't do it.

Who cares. It gives the Jazz an upgrade at every position (except maybe the backup SF, because Marvin Williams is not likely to improve at this stage of his career, but will probably just remain static).
Commented on NBA Draft Lottery: NBA PR report Utah Jazz beat Boston Celtics in 'coin flip' on Apr 18 2014, 3:51p - 1 reply
It's better than that--the Jazz don't need to "fire" their coach with all those negative feelings that come from a firing. They only need to announce that they will not be granting him a new contract. More warm fuzzies!

It may be worth it to sign Deng and then do a sign and trade with Hayward, if he commands too high a salary, and if the Jazz can sign Deng at around $11 mil. per year.

That may be true, but in some drafts a good player slips into the early part of the second round, but is surrounded by a bunch of stiffs.

No luck or scouting can cure the fact that sometimes there are only so many NBA-level players in the draft and they may all be gone before a team picks in the second round.

The other thing that sucks about winning the last game and tying with Boston for the 4th/5th worst record is that, if the Jazz lose the coin toss, they will have the 35th pick, rather than the 34th pick.

I have heard that the salary cap is expected to be raised considerably in 2-3 years when the NBA negotiates a new TV contract, so teams are really not all that worried about overpaying players a little bit in the current NBA environment.

Both Randle and Gordon will play the same position in the NBA--undersized power forward, who is not quite quick enough defensively or a good enough ball handler or shooter to be a small forward--a surefire bench/backup player.

He's 6'6", but looks more like he's a very skinny 6'4", and he can't elevate very high, based on the film I saw. I don't even know if he can dunk. His elite skill is supposed to be playmaking and speed/quickness.
