STARTING THE V-MART BANDWAGON
Welcome, to what is in my opinion, the most exciting offseason in my twenty-four years of memory. I'm not a skilled nor reknown writer/blogger so I will keep this short and to the point. While Kurt definately generates some interest in Werth, I am nervous we are forgetting some major facts. In the following, I hope to make a strong case for V-mart and generate more than a little support for him in the community.
Currently, Lee, Crawford, Werth, Dunn, and Beltre are all ranked higher than Victor Martinez via Yahoo FA tracker.
We all know the story with Lee, and Crawford is being heavily sought after by many teams who are going to gladly overpay. Dunn could be usefull if not only to block the whitesox from getting him. Beltre needs no attention.
Kurt makes a great point in that Werth is the better choice than Dunn, because Dunn is going to be the main DH and Werth is an upgrade defensively. Guillen is going to need time off and DH time, as long as Miggy if we ever plan on resting him and keeping his invaluable presence in the line-up. All points against Dunn.
This hole is why Victor Martinez is CRUCIAL to our team. He wants to catch, he wants a long-term contract, and it is apparent the initial Red Sox's offer was two years/21 mill. (rotoworld)
I think he is realizing his full-time catching days are behind him if he wants that four year contract. What better mentor for Avilla than a veteran catcher who can teach the kid to hit? In Detroit the tigers can rotate him in at DH, first, and he can still catch plenty. We can give him a four year deal less than what Werth wants.
Lets face it, every year, (usually the Angels) overpay and oversign too many OF, blocking their own developing talent. We need to use our slew of young OF and hope one of them breaks out or has a good half. Leyland loves playing the lineup in that way, and lets give him that chance. We DON"T have a good hitting 2b, ss, 3b, DH, or catcher. He is a SWITCH hitter, MIDDLE of the Lineup kind of guy, and is a gap hitter.
Ok, so I lied about keeping this short and I apologize. But I can't say enough about the importance of us signing V-mart! Please DD!!!!!!
Willy Taveras,
I know I am going to be eaten alive for this, but oh well. Oakland A's released Willy today, and I was just seeing if there are any other people out there that would prefer the Tigers signing him way cheap as opposed to paying Damon 7 million.
I know he sucks, and Damon has him beat pretty much across the board, but I am going to cry if/when I see that limp arm of Damon's in our OF....
