I am so proud of these boys! I said it before and I will say it again. This team is playing with fire and passion now. Coaching is getting there too. Add a little more experience in every game they play and look out Big 12!

Enjoy The Ride!!!

Double-T Nation Enjoy The Ride!

I don't want to get roughed up as a Tubs guy, because if you have read some of what I post you will know that is not the case, but this blaming the loss on a FG’s is ridiculous, in my opinion. There were so many other things that did not go our way in this game. We had a sure touchdown passes dropped; we had penalties that killed drives, missed blocks, bad defensive calls, bad decisions by young players that are learning how to play the game at the next level, bad coaching calls, etc. We scored 45 points and had over 500 yards of offense and still we lost? (Seems like that has been a Tech tradition for some time now…) Is all of that on Tubs? Sure it is, after all, he is the head coach. I am sure that there has never been a coach in the entire history of football that has not left a game wishing he could have a few calls back.

But even after all of that these kids were in this game the whole night. They fought and they believed they could win. This against a team that is essentially 4 bad quarters and a few points away from being undefeated and in the top 5 or 10 teams in the country and these kids gave them all they wanted. Sure there are things that could have gone different, but there are so many things that went right last night! I really believe these kids grew up a little last night and that gives me more confidence in this team going forward. These young kids learned that they Can play with some of the big boys in the Big 12 and that has to be encouraging for them.

I have mentioned in another thread and I will say it here. These kids played with fire and determination last night. Probably more than I have seen from a Tech team since Tubs got here. We do have a few places where our talent or at a minimum our size level is not what it needs to be. We have young kids that will grow up and will learn. I think the Brent Musburger said it best while covering the UT game. He was talking about how young the UT team is at certain positions and how in a year or two those kids would not look anything like they did yesterday. The young QB’s would not make some of the bad throws, and the other young players would not make some of the same mistakes they were making. I agree with that and it applies to these kids too! I don’t know if Tubs is the guy or not, but if these kids play with that kind of heart and determination the rest of the year, then I like our chances in more games than I did before last night’s game. Are we going to beat OU or OSU? Probably not, but after last night I honestly feel like the rest of our games are a tossup at best.

In the end, question the calls, be angry, those are our rights as fans, and the reason boards like these exist. Heck I am as guilty as anyone on here about bashing this team when I should not. But those of us that are posting that the season is over, that this team is a joke, that you are going to get rid of your season tickets, and on and on.. Think about what you are doing. This team needs us to support them now more than ever. Many of us have gone on and on about how we wanted to see more fire out of these kids, more urgency, more desire. Well we got that last night and they almost gave us a huge win against a bitter rival! I find myself thinking that if these kids could play that well last night and most of them are nowhere near their full potential yet, then Tech’s future is bright indeed! We all knew this could be a long year and it is going to be. I don’t want to say “next year is gonna be better” because I am as tired of that as everyone else. This year is what it is and we have a young team struggling to find itself and they will. Let’s ride the rollercoaster together and support these kids on their journey to becoming what we all hope they can. Coaches the world over will make wrong decisions, or at the very least decisions that fans don’t agree with Tubs is no different.

Don't normally post on UB's mailbag on ESPN but his last answer of the day where he discussed a realignment question is worth it. He hits the nail on the head and points out how idiotic all of this realignment business is!!

"According to our friends in the sports media, the football programs of our beloved Texas institutions are about to become exported commodities, competing in different national athletic conferences. If this proves to be true, we will be tearing something very special from the celebrated fabric of our Texas history.

The nation knows that there is something unique about Texas football. It's the stuff of song and cinema. Historic, annual rivalries among our Texas institutions date back more than 100 years."

From Lubbockonline

""Did we have knowledge of it? No. Heavens, no," Hocutt told the Avalanche-Journal on Wednesday."

""We don’t think there’s anything to this involving Kirby," Bailey said. "Apparently, neither does the NCAA. If there were anything — or if there were any hint of anything — they’d be talking to him."

When asked why it didnt come up in Tech's hiring process, Hocutt said, "It wasn’t on my radar screen, because seven months had elapsed from the allegations to the time that I came to Texas Tech, and there were no further allegations made or questions come forward relating to this situation. It was accusations from a convicted felon that stole $930 million that was being made from jail. It wasn’t an active case. It wasn’t an open case."

"Tech hired a headhunting firm, Parker Executive Search, to participate in its athletic-director hunt. Bailey said the firm didn’t turn up any concerns regarding Hocutt.

"Not only the search firm, but other people we consulted as well," Bailey said. "We talked to a wide range of people. We did a thorough investigation, and had there been anything, we’d have found out about it."

"Tech Regent John Scovell was part of the search committee, and he said he was impressed by the search firm’s process.

"They’re very methodical in how they go about that, checking records to see if any candidates we were considering had any history — whether it was two weeks ago or 10 years ago — any violations or any reasons to be suspicious," Scovell said."

"I don’t think I’m being lackadaisical," Scovell said. "I’m not concerned about that. I know this young man very well. There’s not any doubt in my mind about his integrity."

"We've made no decision about terminating our relationship with the Big 12," Loftin said. "This is all about what is best for Texas A&M, along with ... visibility for us and our athletes and financial resources. That's what it's all about. I think anybody in my shoes would have exactly the same kinds of concerns."
