I was very disappointed to see that the Eagles were embarrassed by the NFL's worst team today. I hate to say this, but the Eagles looked dead today. This is a slap in the face to the memory of Jimmy Johnson, Philly's late defensive coordinator. He was rolling in his grave after seeing this performance. And you know those pink ribbons, and such the Eagles wore for cancer research this month? The Eagles should've worn pink after this perfomance, because they played like sissies. Oh, I have something for the Donovan McNabb fans after the jump.

Today in Philly Sports History: Limbaugh Resigns from ESPN Over McNabb Controversy, 2003

It's kind of crazy to think that there was a time when infamously cantankerous right-winger (the political kind, not the hockey kind) Rush Limbaugh was a colleague of Stuart Scott and Chris Berman, but during the 2003 NFL season, the one-time Kansas City Royals promo director was given a shot at football commentary on ESPN. It didn't last terribly long, however, as he quickly landed in hot water for racially questionable comments made about Eagles QB Donovan McNabb. "The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," quoth Limbaugh. "McNabb got a lot of the credit for the performance of the team that he really didn't deserve." Those who do not learn from Jimmy the Greek are doomed to repeat his failings, and on October 1st, 2003, Limbaugh resigned from ESPN as a result of his comment's fallout.

"It's somewhat shocking to hear that on national TV from him," McNabb had said in response to Limbaugh's controversial remarks. "It's not something that I can sit here and say won't bother me." Meanwhile, racial insensitivity was not the only thing Limbaugh was attracting attention for in October 2003, as it was also at the height of the drama caused by the criminal probes he faced as a result of his addiction to painkillers. Let's just say that when it came time to replace Tony Kornheiser on Monday Night Football this year, there's a reason ESPN opted to go the Jon Gruden route instead of reaching out to Don Imus.

Of course, both Rush and DMac eventually rebounded nicely from the mess, Limbaugh recently receiving the Conservative Political Action Conference's "Defender of the Constitution" award, and McNabb going to three further NFC Championship games.

Next week, the Eagles will be on ESPN. Let's hope today's debacle compare to the above story.

Giving the game ball to a fan after beating the Patriots? He did not even play in the game!

That's what the Jets did after beating the Patriots. I didn't hear about Bernard Pollard getting a game ball for ending Tom Brady's season last year. I didn't hear that David Tyree got the game ball for making that "catch" that ended New England's perfect season at Super Bowl XLII. Hey, Fireman Ed: Want to see how rough and tough you are like the Jets? Come to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough November 22 and shout that J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS crap in front of Patriots fans, the greatest fans in the world. Then you'll have to walk back to East Rutherford embarrased that the Patriots will get their revenge on your dumb team.

L.A. 14, Nationals 2. Congratulations. You got Bryce Harper. And you're First in War, First in Peace and THE WORST IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL.

That disaster at Nationals Park against Los Angeles actually earned you a wonderful prize. Congratulations, you got Bryce Harper, the Chosen One. If you get trounced by ManRam and the Dodgers again, you'll get 100 losses, and you get the #1 pick in the draft. This blowout at the hands of L.A. reflects the Obama/Pelosi/Reid regime over at the White House and Capital Hill. I hate the Los Angeles Dodgers, and this is a slap in the face to baseball fans in D.C. With the Redskins underachieving and the Wizards still licking their wounds after a 19-63 disaster, at least D.C. already has a winner: The Washington Capitals. I wonder which is higher: Obama's approval rating or the Nationals' winning percentage... Anyway, if you lose tonight, this will make the people in Montreal happy, it was 5 years ago last week that the Expos played their final game in Montreal, and right now, the Nats are not making ANY progress in bringing a winner to D.C. I hope Strasburg and Harper will help you down the road, but this 14-2 loss is another embarrassment to the city, just like the current resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

This is one man's opinion, but Nats fans deserve better than what I heard last night and all season long.

Trojans coach Pete Carroll announced that freshman QB/phenom Matt Barkley will be USC's starting signal caller this year. Which reminds us of Jones/Sharpley/ Clausen from 2007. This is not the Carson Palmer/Matt Leinart/John David Booty/Mark Sanchez Trojans we will be seeing on 10/17/09. Expect ND to give Mr. Barkley a rough freshman orienteering class at Our Lady's Stadium. I think Notre Dame will have its 1st win over the Trojans since '00, don't you think? I predict the Fighting Irish will sack Barkley 6 times en route to a 34-0 win, Clausen will look like Tim Tebow against the Maulauga/Matthews/Cushing-less Trojan D, the Irish will go 12-0 and upset Florida in the BCS title game. Just want to tell you Matt Barkley is going to start for USC this season. Good luck, freshman, you're gonna need it October 17 against the new & improved Irish.

And the winner of Major League Baseball Manager Idol is... TREY HILLMAN! This YouTube video is from November 25, 2007 as the manager of your Royals actually SANG, and boy, did he do well! As all of you in Royals Nation know, he turned a Kansas City Royals-like team, the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters into a Japanese League powerhouse. And in Trey's last game with the Fighters, he actually sang. Listen! Haven't heard Joe Torre sing... Joe Girardi, can you sing like Britney Spears? Hey, Terry Francona! Can you do a duet with Lady GaGa? How about you, Ozzie Guillen, will you audition for American Idol next year? You gotta see it to believe it. I demand a singing competition between Gardenhire, Wedge, Leyland, Guillen and Hillman to see who is the best singer in the A.L. Central. Then he'll go up against Scioscia, Girardi and Francona in the A.L. Skipper Singoff, and maybe challenge LaRussa or Torre or Piniella in the finals. Trey Hillman really is a good singer, but not like KC's own David Cook, though. Gotta love Hillman for one thing, he can really sing!

How do you compute the totals for your 'Jays of the Day' and Eric Hinske Award numbers. I am doing a 2006 Toronto Blue Jays replay at http://forums.delphiforums.com/replayball/messages/?msg=18867.1 and I want to enhance my replays with your 'Jay of the Day/Eric Hinske Award' formula. By the way, I listen to Jays games not on http://www.bluejays.com (no credit card) but on AM 920 CKNX in Wingham, Ontario... I can get CKNX very well from my apartment here in Canonsburg, 20 miles south of Pittsburgh. Once again, I need help on the Jays of the Day formula so I can make my own player of the game highlights with my taabletop baseball game replay of the 2006 Blue Jays.

Soria was a 2008 All-Star and Hillman wants him to rest for '10 because of a tired arm?

C'mon Rany, we weren't born yesterday. If this is true, our 40th anniversary season will be a forgotten one, and the Royals will still be bad.

All 26 Notre Dame athletics programs exceeded the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate standards, and 9 teams had perfect 1,000 scores than any other FBS subdivision. Duke had 8 perfect scores, B.C. and Stanford 6, Navy 5 and Michigan 4. There was no mention of USC in that list.
I am proud to be a Notre Dame fan, and with this report by the NCAA about academic progress, Knute Rockne, Father Sorin, Father Hesburgh, Frank Leahy, Digger Phelps, Lou Holtz and all of Notre Dame Nation are proud of Father Jenkins, Jack Swarbrick, Charlie Weis, Mike Brey and the athletes of Notre Dame. I'm proud to be an Irish fan thanks to this.

Also, KDKA NewsRadio 1020 has Raleigh native Bill Cowher (former Steelers coach) getting lambasted for following the 'Canes after an interview on National TV. Strange thing is Cowher can be seen on WRAL and KDKA, because he is an analyst for CBS' THE NFL TODAY.

What do you think, Caniacs, about Bill Cowher, and the WRAL morning show hosts wearing Penguins jerseys?

Hopefully, 2009-2010 will bring you a Stanley Cup.
