One Bronco Nation Under God Colored Football Fields - Season Report

As most of us know, Bronco Stadium is not the only colored football field in the nation (just the first and the best).  There are apparently more colored fields coming, per Keven Bee's Fan Shots.  Below are the copycats and how they did this past football season.

A combined 29-8 home record, a National Champion, a State Champion, and two Conference Champions.  WHOA!

Eastern Washington University plays on a RED FIELD with RED UNIFORMS.  They were 8-0 at home and ended the season NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

University of New Haven (CT) plays on a BLUE FIELD with BLUE UNIFORMS.  They were 3-2 at home and CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!

Barrow High School (AK) plays on a BLUE FIELD with BLUE UNIFORMS.  They were 2-0 at home and went 4-2 in their conference and went to the STATE PLAYOFFS!

Lovington High School (NM) plays on a BLUE FIELD with BLUE UNIFORMS.  They were 6-0 at home and were STATE CHAMPIONS!

Hildalgo High School (TX) plays on a BLUE FIELD with BLUE UNIFORMS.  They were 3-2 at home.

West Hills High School (CA) plays on an alternating (and annoying) BLUE FIELD with BLUE UNIFORMS.  They struggled this season, going 1-4 at home.

Boise State University was 6-0 on THE Blue and CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!

From my previous research on this topic (in the OBNUG archives), every one of these football teams has an all-time winning record on their colored home field!

The EWU Eagles were undefeated on their gawdy red field (8-0), Big Sky co-champs, winners of 10 straight, including 3 playoff games.

Washington's govenor has declared today Eagles Day and wants the whole state to wear red.

They play the mighty Fighting Blue Hens of Delaware.

Tonight on ESPN2 at 5 PM MT.

One Bronco Nation Under God Colored Football Field Report

As most of us know, Bronco Stadium is not the only colored football field in the nation (just the first and the best).  Below are the copycats and how they are doing so far this football season.

Very well, thank you very much!!  A combined 13-5 home record.

From my previous research on this topic (in the OBNUG archives), every one of these football teams has an all-time winning record on their colored home field!

I won't mention the Oregon State University BLUE FIELD....

You don't want to be penalty free, or you're not trying hard enough... but our boys need to clean this up a bit.

One Bronco Nation Under God Idaho Vandals Played Home Games At Bronco Stadium?!

This past weekend, a long-time Bronco fan told me that.  I said,... "naawwwww."

I KNOW Oregon State looms large and should be our focus, but this was bugging me.  So I looked into it this morning.

Sure enough.  If you already didn't know, in 1922, 1924-25, 1939-41, 1947-55, and 1957-69 the Vandals scheduled a total of 31 "home" games at Bronco Stadium.  Usually one game per season.  I suppose because of the Vandal alumni population in the Treasure Valley.

They compiled a 13-16-2 record over those years as the Home Team in Bronco Stadium.  Mediocre.

They're 2-0 in bowl games on The Blue.  I think they were the Home Team in both.  I dunno.

Here's a cool website with historical football scores and information.

So now you know, too!  Don't puke....

One Bronco Nation Under God Week 3 Computers (Don't Count Yet... Just FYI)

Latest BCS computer polls (don't count until October 17) show Boise State ranked:

#3 in Sagarin Alabama, Florida, Boise State, Texas, Oregon (!))  Oregon State #31.
Anderson N/A Yet
#4 at Billingsley Alabama, Texas, Florida, Boise State, ohio state.  Oregon State #20.
#28 at Matrix Behind the likes of TCU, Temple, Utah, Nevada, Fresno State, and 22 AQ teams.  Obviously, # of season wins counts big with this machine.  We'll catch up. Oregon State is #60 in this Mickey Mouse poll.
#3 at Massey Alabama, Florida, Boise State, Texas, TCU.  Oregon State #33.
Wolfe N/A Yet

Go Byteroncos!

Eastern Washington (ranked 18 FCS), beat Montana (#6) 36-27 in a wild finish.

Red uniforms on a red field. Gotta be a NCAA violation.

This Texas high school is ranked #1 in the nation by USA Today and MaxPreps. But Rivals.com has them ranked #2 due to a.... you guessed it... weak schedule. They even offered this nauseous comparison:

"Euless (Texas) Trinity is the Boise State of high school football," Jackson writes. "(Trinity) is a very good team and brings back a lot of talent, but it doesn't play a schedule befitting a No. 1 ranking."

I wonder who our NFL counterpart is. Oh, wait. They have a playoff.

One Bronco Nation Under God Week 1 BCS Computer Rankings - BOISE STATE #1

I know computer ranking don't count until October 17 when a few more games have been played and the BCS computer ranking element becomes more meaningful.  But I've got them all bookmarked and I thought I'd share the current available computer standings after Week 1 -- just for fun.

There are 6 computer polls.  For the BCS standings, each team's highest & lowest rank from the 6 computer polls is thrown out and the remaining 4 are averaged.  Later in the season this value becomes 1/3 of the BCS ranking.

Sagarin = Boise State #1

Anderson & Hestor = Not Available Yet

Billingsley = Boise State #1

Colley Matrix = Boise State tied for #1 (with 78 other teams)

Massey = Boise State #2 behind Alabama

Dr. Peter Wolfe = Not Available Yet

So, thowing out the highest (#1) and lowest (#2) and averaging the remaining available rankings has BOISE STATE #1!!

It's not surprising that by defeating a ranked opponent while the big boys play bodybag games, Boise will be ranked higher.  But it was still fun to read it!    lol... GO BRONCOS!

Looks like they're almost ready. That's an eye-full.

You know what else? They wear red uniforms.

It's Zabransky and the Edmonton Eskimos vs. Dinwiddie and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Z is 3rd string for EE and Ryan is the backup for the Riders, but you never know.

One Bronco Nation Under God MWC Football Spending. We'd Rank Last.

Probably not too surprising we'd rank last, but I dug up the numbers just to be sure.

Mountain West Conference football expenses:

The TCU Frogs are, by far, the biggest spenders on their football program in the MWC and, in fact, of all non-BCS football programs.  TCU is also ranked a remarkable 31st nationally of ALL institutions just behind Florida State and ahead of programs like Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Oregon and Michigan State, among others.

Not only is TCU good, year in and year out, they've got relatively deep pockets to ensure they stay that way.

With TCU, the Mountain West had four of the top five spending non-BCS football programs – BYU (third), San Diego State (fourth) and Utah (fifth).  With Utah leaving the MWC and destined for bigger revenues as well as expenses, let's not discuss them further.

Where does Boise State stack up with the remaining MWC members financially?  Dead last.  For now.

Football program expenses:
TCU $16,636,229
BYU $10,168,252
SDSU $9,863,275
NMU $7,961,505
CSU $7,840,937
UNLV $6,463,647
UWy $5,509,247
Air Force (doesn't report)

Boise State $5,365,282

Source: U.S. Department of Education's Equity in Athletics report

As we know, money doesn't necessarily buy success on the field but it doesn't hurt.  Facilities, recruiting, scholarships, coaching salaries, prospect's family gifts, travel, operating expenses, etc. all add up.

Currently we're 5th in spending in the WAC, and a surprisingly low 32nd out of the 51 non-BCS schools.  Obviously we're getting a good bang for our buck, but eventually we'll need some more MONEY!

Go Boise State, Inc.

His goal is to be the best QB he can be. Hints at more sacks (!). And has confidence in his ability as a potential pro QB.

Well. 2 out of 3 ain't bad. lol
