Pride Of Detroit Fish's Final Mock Draft

MGoFish's Final Mock Draft

1st Round: TRADE

- Ship the #23 pick to Baltimore (to draft LB Hightower in front of Pittsburgh) for 1st rounder (#29) and a 3rd rounder (#91)

1st Round, 29th Overall: CB Janoris Jenkins, North Alabama/Florida

- Jenkins is a top 10-15 talent with some baggage (failed drug tests, kicked out of Florida) but he is the player the Lions need. He can lock down and cover better than just about anyone in the draft. If he keeps his head on straight, which I think he would, he could be a superstar in Detroit.

Janoris Jenkins #1, CB

2nd Round, 54th Overall (possibly higher w/ trade): DE Nick Perry, USC

-Perry is projected to go anywhere from the Lions first round pick to the Lions second round pick, McShay and others have him falling to the middle-late 2nd round. If needed, trading up a couple spots is worth it.

His tape is very inconsistent but he has the athletic ability to be a star in the league. With the uncertainty of the Lions DE situation, picking up a stud DE is a great move.

Nick Perry #8, DE

3rd Round, 85th Overall: RB Chris Polk, Washington

-Polk is a beast of a running back that could come in and be insurance to the questioned Lions backfield. He can run people over and catch out of the backfield, which would make him great for 3rd down situations.

Chris Polk #1, RB

3rd Round, 91st Overall: OLB Nigel Bradham, Florida State

-Bradham has the skills to be a stud in the league. He has size, speed, and tackling ability, but sometimes lacks in instincts.

Nigel Bradham #13, OLB

4th Round, 117th Overall: S Antonio Allen, South Carolina

-Allen is a good athlete that can cover and hit. He has played in the SEC, against some of the best wide receivers in the nation. His instincts are very good, and his ball skills are pretty decent. He could come in and compete for a starting spot with a great camp. Reminds me of Pittsburgh's Ryan Clark.

Antonio Allen #26, SS

5th Round, 158th Overall: C Michael Brewster, O$U

-Brewster was seen as one of the best Center prospects coming into the year, but with inconsistent play he has fallen off big time. Still, he could be a big time player with some time to sit and watch a player like Raiola play for another year, possibly two.

Michael Brewster #50, C

7th Round, 219th Overall: WR BJ Cunningham, MSU

-Cunningham was one of the best receivers in State history. He is a solid pass catcher that can get open with his physicality and ability over speed alone. Could be a perfect 4th wide out that plays on special teams as well.

BJ Cunningham #3, WR

7th Round, 230th Overall: QB Kellen Moore, Boise State

-Moore is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in college football history. He doesnt have the strongest arm in the world, to say the least, but he is very accurate and always seems to put the perfect touch on all of his passes.

Kellen Moore #11, QB

Now, this is not a for sure thing, but as a Lions fan I think this would be a great to perfect draft. Let me know what you think!

Pride Of Detroit Janoris Jenkins anyone?

Pro Football Talk has just reported that Janoris Jenkins, CB, has been kicked off the Florida football team for smoking pot. He was projected to be the Lions pick early in the draft process and I was wondering if anyone is willing to take him in the supplemental draft?

Go lions Go lions go lions go go lions go lions go lions go lions go lions go lions go lions go lions Go lions Go lions go lions go go lions go lions go lions go lions go lions go lions go lions go lions

University of Florida head coach Will Muschamp announced on Twitter Tuesday that senior cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been kicked off the Gators’ football team.

Jenkins was arrested twice on marijuana-related charges in a matter of three months, and three times during his Florida career. All of the arrests were misdemeanors, but the culmination was enough for Muschamp to send Jenkins packing.

Pride Of Detroit Simple Question

What do you think it will take to move up and take Patrick Peterson? I could see it happening with Arizona at 5 or San Fransisco at 7.

So once again, what would you give up to move up and take maybe the most sure fire pick in this years draft, that fits maybe our biggest need and could end up becoming a perennial pro bowler?

There would be two scenarios I imagine:

Peterson falls to #5 and Arizona is not sold on Gabbert and looks to move out, given the right offer. Detroit offers its first rounder, third rounder and 2012 second rounder.

or

Peterson falls to #7 and San Fransisco realizes they need more than just a CB to rebuild this team, so if they are offered a good enough deal, they will move out. Detroit offers its first rounder, third rounder and 2012 third rounder.

Pride Of Detroit Top draft pick wishlist

Reading so many articles and mock drafts from tons of different sites has me thinking about some of the top players that I hope to see rocking the Honolulu blue and silver on day 1 of the draft.

1. Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU - Just a freak athlete and a great corner, would really solidify our #1 corner spot for many years (as long as he doesnt move to safety). Only available if he slides to around 7 and we trade up. Doubtful.

2. Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska - Another corner that can lock down the #1 spot, and has the size Schwartz covets. Very Very possible he slides to 13 with the rise in D-Lineman.

3. AJ Green, WR, Georgia - Calvin 2.0, would give DBs and D-Coordinators nightmares. Another weapon for Stafford. With all that said,Theres No way hes a Lion.

4. Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina - Great pass rusher and freak athlete, would be a great fit in our 4-3 defense. Possible if 3-4 teams dont want him as a OLB and if his year off hurts his stock with other teams. Low Possibility.

5. Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M - Is at a huge position of need, but I dont know how well he would fit into our defense. Not saying I wouldnt love to see him take a slide and the Lions make a move, but im not counting on it. Very Very Doubtful.

6. Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado - Forget his "issues", the guy has crazy talent and a huge upside. People act like calling himself great and a lockdown corner, but Peterson said the same and don't forget about Primetime. Will be a Lion if Mayhew and Co. feel he's the BPA. Very Possible.

7. Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson - Considered the top prospect before injury concerns came up. Now could very well be available for the Lions at 13, and he would fit in perfectly. Scary thought if he was only touching the surface of his potential last season. Very Very Possible.

8. Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri - Great motor and pass rush ability, reminds me of a more polished Cliff Avril, and could really develop into a Pro-Bowl DE in our system and with guys like Suh, C-Will and KVB helping him out. Possible he lasts, but I think he might go 11th to Houston.

Thats my top 8 players Id love to see in Lions gear on Thursday night. List any others you would like to see.

Pride Of Detroit Nick Fairley and Jon Baldwin anyone?

I saw that the Lions brought in Auburn DT Nick Fairley and Pitt WR Jonathon Baldwin. I dont know if it will play out for this to happen and I know both these players have "off the field/character issues", but I think they would make great Lions.

1st rounder : Fairley would make our Defensive Line THE best in the entire league. You could line Fairley up on either side of Suh and those Oline man would have zero chance against that athleticism and pure domination. The quarterbacks of the opposing team wouldnt be able to stand in the pocket for more than a second which will make our cornerbacks look so much better.

2nd rounder : Baldwin is a physical freak, not the fastest but a huge target that could really help stretch the field and be another jump ball nightmare for opposing secondaries. With him and CJ on the outside, Burleson in the slot and Pettigrew off the tackle, Stafford would have an elite group of receivers.

Another possibility would be to take one of them and another elite prospect like:

Nick Fairley and Ras I Dowling or Nick Fairley and Bruce Carter

or

Prince Amukamara and Jon Baldwin or DaQuan Bowers and Jon Baldwin

Entire Detroit Lions draft :

1st round, 8th overall : Detroit Lions - Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU (Best player in the draft)

3rd round, 75th overall : Detroit Lions - Quan Sturdivant / Bruce Carter, OLB, UNC (One should be here)

4th round, 109th overall : Detroit Lions - KJ Wright, OLB, Miss State (More playmakers at LB)

7th round, 212th overall : Detroit Lions - Justin Rogers, CB, Richmond (Can use as much help as possible)

I know this is very unlikely but I would be ecstatic if this draft happened. Hope for Peterson to fall a bit. GO LIONS!

Pride Of Detroit Fish9 Mock Draft (9 days until D-Day)

1st round.

With the 13th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, The Detroit Lions select Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska.

- With the size and speed, The Fresh Prince of Detroit has all of the tools to be a lock down #1 corner for years to come. I think he will be a great player for the Lions, especially with his college teammate, Suh, keeping him on top of his game.

Princeamukamarabasmalle_medium

2nd round -Trade the #44 and 2012 4th round pick to New England for the #60 and #74 overall picks

With the 60th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, The Detroit Lions select Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina

-Before tearing his ACL, Carter was the top outside linebacker prospect and probably would be the Lions target with their first round pick this year. But because of the injury he falls to our 2nd round pick. This will be huge to get our two biggest needs with our first two picks.

North-carolina-bruce-carter_medium

With the 74th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, The Detroit Lions select Chris Carter, OLB, Fresno State

-Even though they selected a linebacker a round earlier, the Lions need a ton of help at outside linebacker and Chris Carter may be the BPA when this pick comes up. Plus with back to back picks in the 3rd round we have flexibility.

Chris-carter_medium

3rd round.

With the 75th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, The Detroit Lions select James Brewer, OT, Indiana

-Just like last year, the Lions will take a offensive tackle that they can groom, just like Jason Fox. I think Brewer would be a very good fit and is comparable to his Indiana teammate Roger Saffold (33rd pick, 2010 Draft).

127417613_medium

4th round.

With the 107th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, The Detroit Lions select Jamie Harper, RB, Clemson

- Another big need on this team is a power running back to compliment Jahvid Best, and at 5'11 235 lbs. Harper can be a great pick up and addition for the potent Lions offense. Check him out : Jamie Harper

104489857_medium

5th round.

With the 154th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, The Detroit Lions select Ricky Elmore, DE, Arizona

-This kid reminds me a lot of KVB and Ryan Kerrigan, a non stop motor and nose for the quarterback. I think he would be a great value pick this late and could help reload our pass rush. Also will be a fan favorite for sure, which is a great way to keep Ford Field rockin'.

49254_oregon_st_arizona_football_medium

7th round.

With the 205th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, The Detroit Lions select Jeron Johnson, S, Boise State

-Safety is not a top priority for this Lions team but is still a priority, especially with the other priorities beings taken care of in the earlier rounds. Plus I think JJ will be high on the Lions board in the 7th round. Big hitter and solid in coverage, he could really push the older guys for a roster spot.

Fresno_state_v_boise_state_kubipwbznhkl_medium

The one glaring hole that still needs to be filled is WR, but I think the Lions may use free agency to fix that since they need a sure handed, reliable, speed option.

Go Lions!

Pride Of Detroit NFL Network Curveball Draft

I was just watching the Path to the Draft on NFLNetwork and they did their "curveball" top ten and lets just say, it would be INCREDIBLE if it happened the way they had it. Have a look:

1. Carolina Panthers : AJ Green, WR, Georgia

2. Denver Broncos : Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

3. Buffalo Bills : Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

4. Cincinnati Bengals : Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

5. Arizona Cardinals : Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri

8. Tennessee Titans : JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin

9. Dallas Cowboys : Cameron Jordan, DE, California

10. Miami Dolphins (Trade with WASH) : Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas

This would leave some of the top options available to the Lions at 13. I did my own finishing to the next picks....

11. Houston Texans : Aldon Smith, OLB, Missouri (Pass rush and Defense are their huge needs)

12. Minnesota Vikings :Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

13. Detroit Lions : Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

Who would you want us to take with this situation.

-Prince Amukamara, CB, NEB : Solid, lockdown cornerback is our biggest need and it would be a perfect fit.

-Robert Quinn, DE, UNC : Freak defensive end, could give us a terrifying pass rush

-Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson : Never thought he would be available but would be able to learn from KVB

-Tyron Smith, OT, USC : Would be a terrible pick with the other players available but could help for the future

-Trade out : Tons of teams will be trying to trade up and get one of the top available players, Could get great value.

Pride Of Detroit 2011 Mock draft fun: Who cares about injuries?!

2011 NFL Draft:

With the 13th pick the Detroit Lions select ..........Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson (Knee Injury)

      - With Prince off of the board, the Lions go with their BPA, but only if he clears the medical exam with the doctors

With the 44th pick the Detroit Lions select .............Ras I Dowling, CB, Virginia (Ankle/Hamstring Injury)

     - After a great pro day, I think Ras has solidified himself as one of the top 5 corners in this draft and is a great fit

With the 75th pick the Detroit Lions select...............Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina (ACL Injury)

     - Has the most significant injury out of the top prospects, but is well worth the risk this late.

With the 107th pick the Detroit Lions select................KJ Wright, OLB, Miss State (Healthy!!)

      - An instinctive, solid outside linebacker that would fit perfectly in with Detroit's blue collar fan base

With the 154th pick the Detroit Lions select.................Deunta Williams, S, North Carolina (Broken Leg)

      - A very high character, big hitting, smart safety to pair with Delmas.

With the 205th pick the Detroit Lions select ...................DeAndre Brown, WR, Southern Miss (Broken Leg)

      - Was a top highschool prospect and looked liked a sure All-Pro WR until he broke his leg.

Even with taking all of these players coming off of injuries, I would not be upset with this draft Whatsoever. Id actually be pretty ecstatic. GO LIONS!

Pride Of Detroit Maybe the best Draft trade option

Looking at teams wanting to move up and teams wanting to move back I see two teams that come out, The New England Patriots and our Detroit Lions. So I was hoping that this draft ends up happening......

Detroit trades #13 to New England for #28 and #33

New England takes Cameron Jordan or JJ Watt and Julio Jones if he is available

1st round, 28th overall : Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA

2nd round, 33th overall : Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado

2nd round, 44th overall : Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina

3rd round, 75th overall : James Brewer, OT, Indiana

4th round, 107th overall : Demarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma

5th round, 154th overall : Deunta Williams, S, North Carolina

7th round, 205th overall : Ronald Johnson, WR, USC

I know theres a lot of reaches but I thought about the trade and think it would be an incredible option, especially if these players fell to those positions.

Pride Of Detroit Hey! Anything is possible right?......Mock

Lets all just get out our 40's and kegs of Honolulu Blue kool aid and start sipping on it because this is my "Anything can happen" mock offseason:

Free Agency kicks off before the Draft (April 28th):

Lions make the first HUGE splash and sign CB Nnamdi Asomugha (Schwartz and Mayhew go out and talk to him and get the old mans blessing with cash money, and they sell him on all the young, up and coming talent in Detroit)

With most of the FA money gone on Nnamdi, Mayhew starts doing his magic.......

He signs veteran WR Santana Moss with a short term (2-3 years), big incentives deal.

Mayhew then talks CB Chris Houston into signing a long term deal, to be a primary #2 corner and part of one of the leagues best defenses.

Then like always, he makes small deals for depth players like a young, speed receiver and a linebacker that can add depth to camp and the final roster.

Draft Day/Weekend:

1st round : Commish Goodell announces that the Minnesota Vikings select.................Jake Locker, QB, Washington! (Lions fans rejoice). So then the Lions phones start to blow up back in the war room, because many top name prospects are still on the board including Prince Amukamara, Cameron Jordan and DaQuan Bowers. So the Lions start fielding calls and weighing the options, finally they decide to go with Philadelphia, who really wants Prince and the Lions dont need a CB as much anymore. Here is the trade:

PHI receives - #13 overall (1st) and future consideration pick = 1,150+ pts

 DET receives - #23 overall (1st), #54 overall(2nd) and #120 overall(4th) - 760+360+54=1174 pts

1st round, 23rd overall : Detroit selects.............Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA (Lions obvious like him, but have to know they can get him at higher value with a trade back)

2nd round, 44th overall : Detroit selects.............Rahim Moore, S, UCLA (Mayhew sticks to the BPA game and he seems to be a big fan of Jim Schwartz, could be a deadly pair with Louis-D)

2nd round, 54th overall : Detroit selects................Bruce Carter, LB, UNC (Already a fan favorite, could really become a star in the league with good coaching and health)

3rd round, 75th overall : Detroit selects..................Ras I Dowling, CB, Virginia (Big, fast and plays corner. Stay healthy and he's a perfect fit)

4th round, 107th overall : Detroit selects..................Greg Little, WR, UNC (Major character issues and Diva mentality , but a freak athlete that could not be passed up if he happens to fall)

4th round, 120th overall : Detroit selects...................Demarcus Love, OT/OG, Arkansas (Played all 4 years against top SEC DE"s and played both sides)

5th round, 154th overall : Detroit selects......................Darel Scott, RB, Maryland (Fast and powerful, dont know why people have him rated so low, but I would love this pick this late)

7th round, 205th overall : Detroit selects........................Justin Boren, OG, OSU (I hate him, but could develop on the practice squad into a quality depth player)

Now I know this is not gonna happen, but you can really never say never lol. Lets all pray something like this happens because we will not only be playoff contenders but Superbowl contenders with this off season......check out this line up (and dont forget the depth);

Defense:

DE - KVB and Avril

DT - Suh and C-Will/Hill

MLB - Levy

OLB - Ayers and Palmer/Carter

CB - Asomugha and Houston

S - Delmas and Moore

Offense:

QB - Stafford

RB - Best and Scott/Morris

WR - CJ, Burleson, Moss and Little

TE - Pettigrew and Scheffler

OLine - Backus, Sims, Raiola, Peterman/Love and Cherilus

Looks like a Championship team to me.

GO LIONS!!!!

Pride Of Detroit Check this out. Good stuff.

Normally I would totally disagree with Walterfootball.com's mock draft but the one he has up right now looks pretty amazing from a Lions fan perspective and exactly what the POD consensus seems to want . Here it is:

1st round, 13th overall: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

2nd round, 44th overall: Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina

3rd round, 75th overall: James Brewer, OT, Indiana

4th round, 107th overall: KJ Wright, OLB, Mississippi State

5th round, 154th overall: Stevan Ridley, RB, LSU

Now that looks good, but with some of the players he passed up on I would make these changes in my own mock if the draft turned out like it was on the site:

1st round, 13th overall: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

2nd round, 44th overall: Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina

3rd round, 75th overall: Mason Foster, OLB, Washington

4th round, 107th overall: John Moffitt, OG/C, Wisconsin

5th round, 154th overall: Deunta Williams, S, North Carolina

7th round, 205th overall: John Clay, RB, Wisconsin (Dont do what everyone else did last year and not take a talented power back late in the draft (Legarrette Blount)

Pride Of Detroit Free Agency could be fast approaching?

With the court hearing on April 6th, the lockout could be removed and Free Agency could begin. So the Lions are all ready to rock as it could happen very soon. So I thought I would come up with some names the Lions brass are hopefully targeting and the ones I hope/expect to see in Honolulu Blue next year.....

Running Back: Need a power/complimentary back

DeAngelo Williams, RB, 27 years old (D-Will Video) - He is a top flight running back when hes healthy, and he could be an absolute beast and would be a great tandem with Best. Could be expensive, but if Mayhew really wants him, he could be a Lion, not too hopeful though.

Ronnie Brown, RB, 29 years old (Ronnie Brown Video) - Another one who hasn't been able to stay healthy, but when healthy, he is a very effective back that could help this offense excel even more. Could be a realistic option but who knows how much the Lions want to spend on another back.

*Jason Snelling, RB, 27 years old (Snell Video) - This is my favorite option for our #2 power back. He has the speed and power mix that can pick up the tough yards and be a great compliment for Best.

Clinton Portis, RB, 30 years old (Clinton Video) - At the end of his road, but is still a valuable back and if healthy could be a good option as a mentor/goal line back. Only would take a chance on him if he comes at a veterans minimum.

Wide Receiver: Need a 3rd WR that is dependable. Slot or Outside the numbers.

Steve Smith (NYG), WR, 26 years old (Steve Smith Video) - Great possession receiver that can stretch the field a bit too. He would be a great 3rd WR but it would be very hard talking him into being the 3rd receiver when he can most likely be a #2 on most teams. Never know though.

Braylon Edwards, WR, 28 years old (Braylon Video) - Michigan boy who has all the talent in the world, but sometimes gets in his diva mentality. Too many drops has hurt his career outlook but with a fresh start in his hometown with his Wolverine faithful behind him, he could be a star #2 receiver.

*Santana Moss, WR, 32 years old (Moss Video) - This guy owns the Lions, especially at Ford Field. He would be a great player and even better 3rd receiver for the Lions. Very possible option for the front office.

Devin Aromashodu, WR, 27 years old (Aroma Video) - Was a up and coming receiver and one of Cutlers favorite receivers, but has fallen out of love with the Bears front office. Could be a big steal or big bust.

Linebacker: Need OLB help big time, versatile is a big need.

Manny Lawson, OLB, 27 years old (Lawson Video) - Wasnt very good as a 3-4 OLB for San Fran but could be a great 4-3 backer. But has the athleticism to be a star for the Lions. Hopeful that he will be one of the top targets for Schwartz.

Rocky McIntosh, OLB, 28 years old (Mac Big Hit) - Big hitter and a good leader, is suited perfectly for a 4-3 not a 3-4 so he could really impact Detroit's front seven.

Stephen Nicholas, OLB, 28 years old (Forced Fumble) - Absolute tackling machine and a great run stopper. Could be a perfect fit for our defense. Good chance hes a Lion if the offers good enough.

*Stephen Tulloch, MLB, 26 years old (Tull as a Lion) - Would be an absolute beast and fan favorite for the Lions. He is a stud and would solidify the LB corps. Would move Levy outside, or do like we do with the the DLine and move them all around. Versatility is Schwartz's number one thing in a Linebacker.

Secondary: Need a #1 and #2 CB, this is the main need.

Nnamdi Asomugha, CB, 30 years old (Nnamdi Video) - Should be the guy Schwartz is waiting outside his house at midnight for. Absolute shutdown corner that will cost a bunch of money but is worth it. Hopefully the Lions go after him hard, and use players like Suh, KVB and CJ to sell him. Not too hopeful but should be a top target.

*Carlos Rogers, CB, 30 years old (C-Rogers Video) - Not a top option, but is a steady dependable #2 corner. This could be a backup plan if Nnamdi or Prince dont become Lions.

*Chris Houston, CB, 26 years old (2010 Houston) - Kind of upset that he did not sign his tender, probably just wants a long term deal. I think he would be a great #2 corner with Nnamdi or Prince across from him. I expect him to sign back soon after free agency hits.

Eric Wright, CB, 26 years old (E Wright) - Did not have a great year, but is still young and could be an impact secondary player. Another back up option.

Dawan Landry, SS, 28 years old (Dawan Video) - Could be a big the player they go after if the Lions really want to upgrade the spot next to Delmas. Very doubtful though.

Possible/realistic picks(*):

Jason Snelling, RB

Santana Moss, WR

Stephen Tulloch, LB

Chris Houston, CB

Carlos Rogers, CB

Other players will be available after cuts and releases so who knows who all could be on this list.

Make your list too.

These are the 3 big name players I could see the Lions sign/re-sign, along with some players for camp and/or depth. Probably a veteran OT/OG, another good young corner and probably a safety to compete in camp.

Pride Of Detroit Detroit Tar Heels (revised)

(Ed. note -- bumped to the front page. Good breakdown of the different UNC guys in the draft.)

The more I think about it and watch/read things about the players of North Carolina, the more I wouldn't mind a draft that had the Lions landing multiple Carolina players. These kids are extremely athletic, play a similar defense, most of their players fit our needs on defense and because of the NCAA sanctions and injuries, many of the players will be available all over the draft. Here is a list of the prospects they have available in this draft:

Pride Of Detroit No Tackle is worth the 13th pick

I am getting really sick of looking at all of these mock drafts on different sites that have the Lions picking a tackle in the first round. I do not think one OT is even worth that high of a pick. And even more important, anyone that follows the Lions knows that Mayhew and company go with the Best Player Available on their board. I could be wrong and they could grade one of the tackles in their top 10. But I do not think that will be the case. They will likely take the same plan as last year, go with the top player in every round and find a OT in the mid to late rounds.

I do feel like they will be looking to trade back when the draft begins, especially if it plays out where their top players are off the board and someone like Julio Jones or Mark Ingram is available for someone to move up and get them.If they do trade back, they could look at Anthony Castonzo or Mike Pouncey.

Two Mock options:

Option 1. Draft the best player available at 13, find a mid to late round O-lineman

1st round, 13th overall : Prince Amukumara, CB, Nebraska (falls because of the rise of others)

2nd round, 44th overall : Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland (would be amazing if he's here this late, doubtful though)

3rd round, 75th overall : Bruce Carter or Quan Sturdivant, OLB, North Carolina (If Carters gone, Q is a great compromise)

4th round, 106th overall : Nate Irving, OLB, NC State (freakish athlete and tackling machine)

5th round, 151st overall : Marcus Gilbert, OT/OG, Florida (Big body, could be a good depth guy)

Option 2. Trade back to get more picks

Trade #13 to NYG for #19, #52 and #180. (Who knows, they could want Julio or might really like Ayers)

1st round, 19th overall : Mike Pouncey, OG/OC, Florida (upgrade needed at both guard and center)

2nd round, 44th overall : Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina (Just seems like the Lions really like this kid)

2nd round, 52nd overall : Jonathon Baldwin, WR, Pitt (Didnt look great at his pro day, but could help him fall to here)

3rd round, 75th overall : Davon House, CB, New Mexico St. (Very fast, ran a 4.35 at this pro day)

4th round, 106th overall : Deunta Williams, SS, North Carolina (Has great character and great talent)

5th round, 151st overall : Roy Helu, RB, Nebraska (Power back and played for the Lions farm team)

6th round, 180th overall : Jonas Mouton, OLB, Michigan (Not flashy, but will be a solid starter in the NFL)

Those are just my picks if the outcomes happen, feel free to add your own picks in the situations.

GO LIONS!!

  1. Jason Hanson #4 Field goals

  3. Nick Harris #2 Punter

Free Agency:

Santana Moss, WR - Fast, quick, sure handed receiver that can be a match up problem for opposing 3rd corners.

Richard Marshall, CB - Not great in coverage, but stuffs the run very effectively. Solid #2 corner.

James Anderson, OLB - Very good OLB and picks up a ton of tackles (130 last year)

Draft:

Trade the #13 overall pick to New England for the #17, #60 and #244 (7th round) - NE picks Julio Jones,WR.

1st round, 17th overall - Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado

- With so many people backing him up, including all of his coaches, I think that his talent will outweigh his possible problems. With the possibility that he could be one of the top corners in the NFL in 3 years, hes worth the pick if we move back. Remember people think Delmas has off the field issues.

- Jimmy Smith Video

- Jimmy Smith Combine Interview

2nd round, 44th overall - Stefen Wisniewski, C/G, Penn State

-BPA and is at a huge position of need. Is an upgrade over either Peterman at guard or Raiola at center. This guy could be just a step down from the top center in last years draft, Pouncey.

-Stefen Wisniewski Video

2nd round, 60th overall - Daniel Thomas, RB, Kansas State

-Thanks to a little injury, he may fall down the 2nd round. This kid is a beast and can be the Thunder to Best's Lightning, or Smash to Best's Dash or whatever other nicknames you can think of.

- Daniel Thomas Video

3rd round, 75th overall -Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina

-To get a player with the talent of a top 15 pick in the 3rd round, thats a great pick. Plus the kid is tough and has the will to get back to the field as soon as possible. If he can come back from his injury, this could be the steal of the draft, easily. Will start if healthy.

-Bruce Carter Video

-Bruce Carter Combine Interview

4th round, 106th overall - Quan Sturdivant, LB, North Carolina

-Yes, another UNC linebacker. The team has talent and I think they play the way Schwartz and company like to see. McShay himself said that this kid is extremely tough, instinctive and smart. Could develop into a very good weak side linebacker or at least depth linebacker for all 3 positions. Could also be the BPA here in the 4th round, and linebacker depth is a big need.

- Quan Sturdivant Video

- Quan Sturdivant Combine Interview

5th round, 151st overall -Jaiquawn Jarrett, S, Temple

-Great athlete, but even better person. Sure tackler, that knows how to lay the wood when necessary. Has the talent to be a 2nd/3rd round pick, but is projected to fall in the draft.

-Jaiquawn Jarrett Video

7th round, 244th overall - DeAndre Brown, WR, Southern Miss

-At 6'6'' 230, this kid could be a match up nightmare. But with a broken leg and slow 40, he could easily fall this far down the board. I think it could be a great pick up late.

- DeAndre Brown Video

Pride Of Detroit Teams that could look to trade up

I think the Lions are in a bad spot for picking a player at need for this team. As of right now, it looks like OT, DE, and the #2 WR and #1 RB could/should be available at the #13 spot. Since the Lions main needs are CB and OLB, I feel like trading back into the late teens or early 20's would be ideal to land such players as Akeem Ayers or Jimmy Smith at a pick where they are the BPA.

Here is a list of teams that could be looking to trade up:

#14. St.Louis - It is known that they need a big time WR like Julio Jones to have for Bradford. Since its only a one pick move, I could only see the Lions receiving an extra 3rd rounder at most.

#15. Miami - If Julio Jones is gone, the Lions could possibly look at Mark Ingram, but with Miami in need of a top RB, they could possibly want to jump in our spot to take him. Could only see us receive a 3rd and possibly a future pick.

#17. New England - This is the team I expect to want to move up the most if Julio Jones is available. They need a deep threat and a big play receiver so they could offer a great deal. I could see them offering their #17 and either their #33 or #60 (2nd round picks).

#26. Baltimore - They brought in Boldin and Housh, but all of their WR are possession receivers. So if Julio is available they could make this move. One big play WR could make them legit Superbowl contenders. A lot would be needed to move up 13 spots, so possibly #26, #58(2nd round), and #122 (4th round).

Their are obviously other teams that could want to move up, but these are the teams I expect to want to make a move the most.

GO LIONS!!

Pride Of Detroit 2011 Detroit Lions Mock Draft

1st round. 13th overall(Or if we trade back) : Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado - I think this kid has the size, speed and talent to be a true shut down NFL cornerback. After watching some of his video, including the interviews, I really think this kid is honest and truthful when he says he is much more mature and those problems were when he was young. I mean how many of us who went to college, didn't do something stupid and get in trouble our freshmen/sophomore years? Plus I think he may be the BPA and BPA at a position of need.

NFL Comparison - Nnamdi Asomugha

2nd round. 44th overall : Bruce Carter, OLB, North Carolina - To me, Bruce Carter is the most underrated player in this draft, and thats obviously because of his ACL injury, but I feel like he is a player that will do whatever necessary to make sure he is ready. Has all the tools, skills and mentality needed to be a All-star. Would be our pick at 13, if he didn't hurt his knee.

NFL Comparison - Lance Briggs

3rd round. 75th overall : John Moffitt, OG, Wisconsin - Big bruising guard that can open up the holes for the running backs and can help keep Stafford healthy. This guy was an All-conference guard and played in a great OLine system at Wisconsin. Could replace Peterman this year or next.

NFL Comparison - Shawn Andrews

4th round. 106th overall : Greg Little, WR, North Carolina - Think of the Buccaneers Mike Williams but bigger. Little was supposed to be the #1 receiver coming into the draft this year before all the problems at UNC. This could be an absolute steal this late, and could really make it even harder for defenses to focus attention on CJ, also could help move Burleson into the slot where he could be even better. Even played Running Back at UNC. Could fall to the 4th simply because of his suspension.

NFL Comparison - Poor mans Andre Johnson

5th round. 151st overall : Mario Fannin, RB, Auburn - Absolute beast. 230+ pound back that runs a sub 4.4 forty. Could really help Best change pace on the opposing defenses. I think one of the main things our team needs is a power back to compliment Best and pick up the tough yards, Jerome Felton isnt very good.

NFL Comparison - Legarrette Blount

Pride Of Detroit Players to look out for in each round

1st round

  • Tyron Smith, OT, USC - Most analysts have him as the #1 tackle, im just scared he might not be a LT in the NFL.
  • Anthony Castonzo, OT, BC - Mayock has him as the best tackle and can play both LT and RT and Guard.
  • Nate Solder, OT, Colorado - Great athlete and could be an All Pro LT and worst case solid RT
  • Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska - Will be the pick if he falls to us at 13.
  • Robert Quinn, DE, UNC - If he falls to us, he would be very hard to pass up.
  • Julio Jones, WR, Alabama - Freak WR that would be a nightmare for defenses with him lined up across from Calvin.
  • Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado - Could be a shutdown corner if he can keep his head on straight. Would also fit in perfect in Detroit since Jimmy Smith is the name of Eminem's character in 8 mile.
  • Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA - Didn't show up well at the combine but could still be an option.

2nd round

  • Aaron Williams, CB, Texas - First round talent but not sure if he is a corner or safety.
  • Stefen Wisneiwski, C/G, Penn State - Best Center in the draft, and Dom needs to go soon.
  • Bruce Carter, OLB, UNC - Injury is the only reason this guy isnt gonna be our pick at #13, could even fall into the 3rd round.
  • Titus Young, WR, Boise St - A great option as our #3 WR, sure handed, great route runner.
  • Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pitt - Could be an absolute star in the NFL, just needs to not be such a diva.
  • Daniel Thomas, RB, Kansas St - Huge, power running back that fits the bill for Thunder to Best's Lightning.
  • Brandon Burton, CB, Utah - Has the skills of a top 5 corner and could be a future starter.

3rd round

  • Demarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma - Could be a steal, fast and agile, runs too straight up. Plus he was a huge Lions fan growing up.
  • Johnny Patrick, CB, Louisville - Good player with good value in the 3rd round.
  • Mason Foster, OLB, Washington - Would fit the bill perfectly in Detroit as a strong side OLB.
  • Rashad Carmichael, CB, VA Tech - Quick and agile with good ball skills
  • Jason Pinkston, OT, Pittsburgh - Talented kid, that could be a good mid round pick up if we dont get a OLineman in the first or second round.
  • Jordan Todman, RB, UConn - Very talented, versatile back that could be a great mix with Best.
  • Quan Sturdivant, LB, UNC - A linebacker that just gets the job done.
  • Greg Jones, LB, MSU - Would be a hometown favorite but could be a poor mans Ernie Sims.
  • John Moffitt, OG, Wisconsin - Big bruiser, that would help open holes and protect Stafford.
  • Shareece Wright, CB, USC - Is a good prospect as a true tackling corner, isnt afraid to make the hits.
  • Greg Little, WR, UNC - Freak wide out that fell because of the sanctions, but is a 3rd round steal. Think of the Bucs Mike Williams but bigger.

4th round (BPA no matter what position, besides QB)

  • Davon House, CB, New Mexico State - Has all the tools to be a great corner, but is too small.
  • Robert Sands, S, West Virginia - "The Predator" could be a great dreaded teammate with Delmas.
  • Ross Homan, OLB, OSU - Fast and a sure tackler, could be a good pick even though hes a buckeye.
  • Demarcus Van Dyke, CB, Miami - Fastest player at the combine, a bit small like Phonz though.
  • Deandre McDaniel, S, Clemson - Freak athlete that was suppose to be a 1st round prospect.
  • Deunta Williams, S, UNC - Great player but an even better mental make up, broken leg has him this far down the draft board.
  • Nate Irving, LB, NC State - Physical, mean and a beast, could be a fan favorite very quickly.
  • Jalil Brown, CB, Colorado - Good player, got most of the attention playing across from Jimmy Smith.
  • Delone Carter, RB, Syracuse - Big power back that can run over defenders
  • Curtis Marsh, CB, Utah State - A big corner that can be physical and be a steal late

5th round (BPA no matter what position, besides QB)

  • Buster Skrine, CB, UT-C - Fast corner that showed up well at the combine, falls to the 5th because of the level of competition.
  • Jaiquawn Jarrett, S, Temple - Big hitter that I think would be a big time steal in the draft and a Mayhew-esk pick.
  • Cecil Shorts, WR, Mount Union - Something about those small school players, they can play if given the chance.
  • Mario Fanin, RB, Auburn - Might go higher, but showed up at the combine and would be a good compliment to Best
  • JT Thomas, OLB, West Virginia - Could be a good replacement for JP
  • Ronald Johnson, WR, USC - Michigan boy who could make an impact as a slot receiver.
  • Lawrence Wilson, OLB, UConn - Good player that could be an impact at least on Special teams.
  • Roy Helu Jr, RB, Nebraska - Power back that played well at Nebraska and could fit in well in Detroit.
  • Mark Herzlich, OLB, BC - Great story and if he can get back to 3/4's the player, this is a steal.
  • Jeron Johnson, SS, Boise St - A big hitting safety that could pair well with Louis D.

Pride Of Detroit Can we all agree on one thing?

As Lions fans, I think we can all agree on one thing......The higher the first quarterback goes, the better. If Cam Newton goes #1 to Carolina, then its a good chance that 2 maybe even 3 quarterbacks could go in the top 12 picks and if that happens that makes the Lions pick so much more valuable. Lets say Cam and Blaine go in the top 5 picks, then there is a good chance that Jake Locker could go to Tennessee or to Washington in the top 10, and maybe Minnesota could reach at Ryan Mallett or even Christian Ponder. It will really help if the CBA rookie contracts go through and the team does not need to pony up as much money for a 1st round quarterback.

If this happens, the draft could look like this:

  1. Carolina - Blaine Gabbert, QB
  2. Denver - Marcell Dareus, DE/DT
  3. Buffalo - Nick Fairly, DT
  4. Cincinnati -Cam Newton, QB
  5. Arizona - Von Miller, OLB
  6. Cleveland - AJ Green, WR
  7. San Fransisco - Patrick Peterson, CB
  8. Tennessee - DaQuan Bowers, DE
  9. Dallas - Robert Quinn, DE/OLB
  10. Washington - Jake Locker, QB
  11. Houston - Prince Amukamara, CB
  12. Minnesota - Ryan Mallett, QB / Christian Ponder, QB
  13. Detroit - ????

If the draft turns out like this, then the Lions can do so many things:

  • Take the BPA on their board (most likely would be Julio Jones)
  • Take the Best OT on their board (Solder, Castonzo, Smith, Carimi)
  • Trade back (St.Louis-Julio Jones, Miami-Mark Ingram, NewEngland-Pass Rusher/OT, NYG-Mark Ingram)

Hopefully Mayhew does what he has done the last two years and makes the right decision. My hope is that we take the best value move, whether it be take the BPA or trade back and get an extra 2nd or multiple picks.

Let me know what you would do........ GO LIONS!
