The Buccachieftriot
Matt Cassel has reportedly been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. This, coming after last night one of our own here at MHR reported a trade of Cassel to (one of my favorite cities, and hopefully future home) Tampa Bay. Personally, I want to see him in Bucs garb, and not in red and yellow. The Chiefs report ceoms from the mouth of a god by the name of Adam Schefter, who reports he was apart of the Vrabel trade.
It's Official
Aaron Eckhart, star of "Thank You for Smoking" (great movie) and a co-star in "The Dark Knight" (still haven't seen it) admits to being... a raider fan :(. Why does Hollywood have raider fans?! If I find out Robert Downey Jr is a raider fan I'll kill myself! Eckhart AND Jessica Alba are raider fans?! :'(
My best friend made this in his ceramics class... impressive, no?
Babin released
Seahawks released DE Jason Babin.
They had to do this because Seattle is now carrying eight receivers. A former first-round pick, Babin would be an upgrade over several teams' nickel rushers, particularly in St. Louis and Houston. He can also play linebacker.
Would Houston really bring this guy back? He had a nice game vs Minnesota in the preseason... I don't know about you guys, but I don't really see him going back to Houston. However, I'm not the expert here, that's why I'll ask you guys... Does Babin return to your beloved Texans?
No doubt about it
Also, Did anyone else see EE last night? I got a good laugh when he stood behind the ref and repeated his signals for false start just for the raider fans.
Random News and Notes from Rotoworld
Matt Flynn has passed Brian Brohm on the depth chart as Green Bay's No. 2 quarterback. (I found this quite funny)
Free agent OT Willie Anderson has fielded calls from Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome and Chargers GM A.J. Smith. (The Chargers also recently signed ex-Falcon G Kynan Forney)
Packers released LB Abdul Hodge and P Jon Ryan. (The note goes on to say Ryan may wind up in Denver)
Which jersey should I ask for from my parents for Christmas?
- B-Marsh
- Doom
- Eddie Royal
- (sorry I posted this like this, I didn't want to waste a fanpost.)
Looking at the bright side of recent drafts
Jay is without a doubt the best QB to join the league in the past 3-4 years. At TE, Scheffler is better than guys taken before him such as Joe Klopfenstein and Marcedes Lewis (IMHO). At wide receiver we have this Brandon Marshall guy... widely considered a top-20 WR, but look who we could've had: Cory Rodgers, Brandon Williams, Chad Jackson... the only guy taken before Marshall that I might be envious of is Greg Jennings. Elvis Dumervil, what a steal. Guys taken before him include Jason Hatcher and Frostee Rucker.
In 2005, our draft may have not been amazing, but we nabbed three corners (R.I.P. D-Will), of which Foxworth and Paymah create depth the rest of the league envies to hell. And though Maurice Clarret was an all-around bad choice, I'd still say we had a pretty good draft.
Over the past few years, I'd say Denver has redeemed themselves after a streak of poor drafts, mainly in the '06 draft. Cutler, Scheffler, Marshall, Dumervil... How many better drafts have there been in recent history for ANY team?

1 question, 1 exciting statement...
1. I recently inherited my high school's sports column in the school newspaper. For my first article, I've decided I'm either going to write about Michael Phelps or The Redeemed Team. Does anyone have another good article idea for my next one, or a good title for my column? Any and all thoughts are appreciated.
2. Brandon Marshall = "Baby T.O.," and I've heard comparisons of Eddie Royal to Steve Smith (CAR). Does this mean, potentially, Denver could have a WR corps held down by two guys who compare to T.O. and Steve Smith in their primes?? If that's true, and we have Cutler at QB and Sheffler at TE... the next decade looks to be a time period where I'll need to buy many pairs of fresh pants.

Brett the Jet
javon considered retiring?
Cutler V. Rivers (Warning: Stats.)
I know I've posted a lot of fanposts/fanshots recently, but this one seemed like a good topic of conversation. I'm hoping not all of you have seen this yes, otherwise I feel like I've wasted a few minutes of my life. Cutler's stats only look worse in the TDs category. If I were asked, I would have placed my money on Rivers having better stats.
No matter what, the Texans always seem to have a little Bronco to them. As seen here, only two Texans jerseys (Ryans, 59, Williams, 90) and a Broncos jersey (Bailey, 24). This is what makes them my #2 team. If, in an AFC Champ. game, we were to lose to them, I wouldn't be very upset. Does anyone else have a special place in their heart for the Houston Broncos Jr?
Sure, you recognize the numbers (Nalen, 66, Elway, 7, and Schlereth, 69) but, do Nalen and Schlereth look odd to anyone else? Maybe it's just because I wasn't a football fan then, but my only image of Schlereth out of uniform is with ESPN. And my only ones of Nalen are much more recent with long, messy hair.
AFC West WRs
Of these starting AFC West wide receivers, which would you say is or will be the best (in his prime)? Please try not to be too much of a homer here, I'm very curious to know everyone's honest opinion. Of these receivers, I'd have to say Curry is the slowest and I believe Bowe is the quickest. They all have good size and Curry, having played QB in college, may have a special feeling for getting open in comparison to the others. Marshall played some safety for a year in college, perhaps giving him a better feeling for reading coverages.

Denver did some roster work today
Waived linebacker Brandon Archer, punter Danny Baugher, quarterback Cullen Finnerty, wide receiver Taylor Jacobs, defensive end Julian Jenkins and safety Vickiel Vaughn; acquired linebacker Manuel Padilla from the International Practice Squad Program.
I have never heard of this International Practice Squad thing, but I can pretty much assume what it is. It's hard for me to understand why a guy like Taylor Jacobs (a proven vet) gets cut before some of our low-quality depth WRs. (Not Colbert, Jason or Parker, but the guys further down the chart.) Anyone care to explain that? Also, does this mean we're down to just two punters (including the guy who tried to kill his dad or w/e.)?
someone at ESPN agrees with me.
With defensive backfield teammates like Lewis Sanders, Chris Crocker, and the old, slow Lawyer Milloy, Deangelo Hall's inability to play all over the field is no surprise. However, in the article you're about to read, they seem to blame the entire Falcons's defensive woes on Hall, which is wrong.
Deangelo Hall IS pathetic though. One of the most over-rated CBs in the NFL. Anyone who is considered a "speed" corner, but can be torched by an old, slow Hines Ward with only one shoe is highly overrated. Champ got burned a few times last season, but if I remember correctly, he was in pain in the GB game. To me, Hall is not a top-20 CB.
I am glad, however, to have oakland with ANOTHER first-round, overpaid bust/overrated corner. He should go along nicely with Fabian Washington and Stanford Routt. I feel bad for Nnamdi Asomugah, who worked out well for them, but will most likeley be blamed for their poor defense this season.

Frequent Flyers
"No team is going to travel as much as the San Diego Chargers, who play in London, Miami, Buffalo, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay. All together, the Chargers are scheduled to travel a preposterous 33,516 miles. Fortunately, the schedule places them in Buffalo the week before their game in London. Now the Chargers can fly east, play in Buffalo and proceed straight to London." --Adam Schefter (<3), NFL Network.
Any chance all of this flying makes them more vulneralbe to losses to our beloved Broncos?
This is obviously VERY early, but...
Scout.com released their 2009 mock draft (Yeah, they're a year ahead of schedule there, apparently.) The only thing about it that I am interested in is the positions of the teams in the AFC West.
http://profootballexperts.scout.com/2/743015.html
They seem to believe Denver will take a safety, which sounds good by me, but chances are that very few of these players will be on the top of any draft board this time next year.
I also liked reading the comments, how they seem to think many coaches will be cut loose, and how they see Bills's QB J.P. Losman as a large FA before next year's draft.
Thoughts/comments?
Too lazy to mock...
I have pleanty of time to make a mock draft, but I'm not happy with where denver picks, so I'm just going to say basically what I'd like and when. Don't be upset with my lack of specifics, please.
In round 1, wait for Ellis, and get him if he manages to SOMEHOW slip to us. If another team gets him, instantly call around to trade out of round 1 for more round 2 and 3 picks. In round 2, grab one of the DTs who should be there (Laws, Sims, Moore) and one of the WRs (Doucet, Hardy), OR look for Kenny Philips of my Miami Hurricanes. In rd3, take either an OL or WR, depending on whether we chose WR or S in rd2. Look for a kicker in rds 4 or later, and continue to add depth to the positions of DL, OL, and CB for the rest of the draft, while making sure to pick up Hussain Abdullah as late as possible, and possibly "Mike Belling"* him.
I really want Hussain Abdullah just so we can have two pairs of brothers on one side of the ball all at once... just think it'll be cool.
*Mike Belling- Asking a player to not be drafted by another team, and in return, giving the player a nice contract as a college free-agent.
random guy's opinon sounds good.
A random Scout.com member posted this: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=127&f=2877&t=2017149
It's a top 10+ list of players at each position... I like seeing Marshall, D.J., and Doom on these lists, but they guy must have forgotten Champ, I mean, he even has Bly on there.
Cutler and Scheffler each fell into the "Just Missed" sections for their respective positions. Scheffler's position is surprising to me, I expected him to be completely unmentioned.
Anyone feel up to posting something simmilar here on MHR? I'd love to see what a few of you think.
Hooray!
Jeb Putzier, the man who could take a hit from a 747 and live to tell about it, has a new job. After being drafted out of Boise State in the 6th round by Denver a fair number of years back, he was released after the '05 season. He then signed a 4-year deal with Houston, to play with coach Koobs, but only made it through two years there. Now he's a Seattle Seahawk.
If they don't want him, I would actually love to see him coma back to Denver and finish out his career here.
With Thomas in Dallas
Zach Thomas signed with the Dallas Cowboys for a one-year $3mil deal (sounds like too much to me) either last night or this morning, meaning he's likely to start alongside Bradie James at MLB for the Cowboys and their 3-4 D. With the Cowboys having strong backups already, it could mean they'll dispose of Akin Ayodele, Kevin Burnet, or even former 1st round pick Bobby Carpenter... Who do you hope gets moved? I hear Carpenter fits better in a 4-3 scheme like Denver's...
Free Agent Wide Recievers
The Bears released Muhsin Muhammad today... and there are a lot more veteran WRs out there now... Who would you say is the best of these, and who would you most like the Denver Broncos to pursue?
Muhsin Muhammad
Peerless Price
Marty Booker
etc.
