Matt Cassel has reportedly been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. This, coming after last night one of our own here at MHR reported a trade of Cassel to (one of my favorite cities, and hopefully future home) Tampa Bay. Personally, I want to see him in Bucs garb, and not in red and yellow. The Chiefs report ceoms from the mouth of a god by the name of Adam Schefter, who reports he was apart of the Vrabel trade.

"NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Matt Cassel has been traded to the Chiefs. The Boston Globe's Mike Reiss has confirmed the news, which is part of the trade sending Mike Vrabel to Kansas City. There were rumors Cassel could be involved in a three-team swap, but it appears Kansas City will be his final destination. Compensation has not been announced, but it's safe to say the Tyler Thigpen era is over before it started." —Rotoworld.com

[In other news, the Andra Davis signing looks to be official now...]

Brian Dawkins is a Denver Bronco. "The San Francisco Chronicle cites 'a league source' reporting that Brian Dawkins has agreed to a two-year contract with the Broncos."
  --Rotoworld.com

A perennial ProBowler at safety, Dawkins should greatly upgrade our secondary, while providing a mentor to young players like Barrett. He's expected to play a Rodney Harrison-type role in a Patriotic (if you will) defense. If Denver could get another two or three recognizable names on defense I'll be content. Especially players who are fit specifically for a 3-4 D.

(Speaking of, Anthony Montgomery got a fifth-round tender... would he be a good fit as an NT or w/e in a 3-4?)

Babin released

According to Rotoworld.com:

Seahawks released DE Jason Babin.

They had to do this because Seattle is now carrying eight receivers. A former first-round pick, Babin would be an upgrade over several teams' nickel rushers, particularly in St. Louis and Houston. He can also play linebacker.

Would Houston really bring this guy back? He had a nice game vs Minnesota in the preseason... I don't know about you guys, but I don't really see him going back to Houston. However, I'm not the expert here, that's why I'll ask you guys... Does Babin return to your beloved Texans?

Jay Cutler was the best quarterback in that draft. Period. Vince Young has once again indicated he may be done with pro football, and Matt Leinart isn't being given the shot at what is supposed to be his future job... now take into account Jay's just-under-Godly performance last night, and I—and probably many others—have no problem saying that Jay Cutler is the best quarterback from that draft in any round (is anyone going to even try to compare Kellen Clemens or Tarvaris Jackson?)

Also, Did anyone else see EE last night? I got a good laugh when he stood behind the ref and repeated his signals for false start just for the raider fans.

Joe Flacco will be the Ravens' starting quarterback in Week 1.

Matt Flynn has passed Brian Brohm on the depth chart as Green Bay's No. 2 quarterback. (I found this quite funny)

Free agent OT Willie Anderson has fielded calls from Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome and Chargers GM A.J. Smith. (The Chargers also recently signed ex-Falcon G Kynan Forney)

Packers released LB Abdul Hodge and P Jon Ryan. (The note goes on to say Ryan may wind up in Denver)

I wish Denver would have taken Reggie Nelson over college teammate Jarvis Moss as much as the next guy, but at least we haven't completely messed up in recent years. A look at this week's preseason games shows that some QBs just aren't ready for the NFL the way our boy Jay is.
Jay is without a doubt the best QB to join the league in the past 3-4 years. At TE, Scheffler is better than guys taken before him such as Joe Klopfenstein and Marcedes Lewis (IMHO). At wide receiver we have this Brandon Marshall guy... widely considered a top-20 WR, but look who we could've had: Cory Rodgers, Brandon Williams, Chad Jackson... the only guy taken before Marshall that I might be envious of is Greg Jennings. Elvis Dumervil, what a steal. Guys taken before him include Jason Hatcher and Frostee Rucker.
In 2005, our draft may have not been amazing, but we nabbed three corners (R.I.P. D-Will), of which Foxworth and Paymah create depth the rest of the league envies to hell. And though Maurice Clarret was an all-around bad choice, I'd still say we had a pretty good draft.
Over the past few years, I'd say Denver has redeemed themselves after a streak of poor drafts, mainly in the '06 draft. Cutler, Scheffler, Marshall, Dumervil... How many better drafts have there been in recent history for ANY team?

Okay, these two subjects have no relation, but I wanted to get both out there, and I didn't feel like posting two FanPosts.

1. I recently inherited my high school's sports column in the school newspaper. For my first article, I've decided I'm either going to write about Michael Phelps or The Redeemed Team. Does anyone have another good article idea for my next one, or a good title for my column? Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

2. Brandon Marshall = "Baby T.O.," and I've heard comparisons of Eddie Royal to Steve Smith (CAR). Does this mean, potentially, Denver could have a WR corps held down by two guys who compare to T.O. and Steve Smith in their primes?? If that's true, and we have Cutler at QB and Sheffler at TE... the next decade looks to be a time period where I'll need to buy many pairs of fresh pants.
