Grant Green video

One of the great advantages of going to school in the South is that beginning in February you get to see real, live, meaningful baseball in generally pleasant weather. This weekend USC paid a visit to Tulane for a 3-game series and I caught the Friday night game. I thought I would take the opportunity to snag some video footage of USC shortstop Grant Green. The game was a little disappointing from my perspective, as Green did not perform well and Tulane lost 4-2. Fortunately, Tulane still took the series as Green and USC succumbed to the mighty Green Wave yesterday and this afternoon.

As you may already know, Green is a highly-touted prospect who could be taken by the Mariners with the #2 overall pick. USSM has already posted an extensive write-up about him, so I will refer you to that for more information as well as his page on the USC team website. I’m not even going to pretend to put on my scouting hat and tell you what I think of his major league potential.

Green’s line for the game: 0-4, HBP, 2 SB, 1 R, 1 error. The video includes four of his five plate appearances – one of them totally slipped my mind – his stolen bases, and his run scored. Not pictured are a 7th inning at bat where he lined out to the left fielder on a full count and his defensive performance. Apologies for the grainy quality of the video and amateur filming techniques.

Notes:

- He made a couple fairly routine plays at short, but the error came on a ball to his left that he got in front of and booted off the heel of the glove.

- Tulane starter Conrad Flynn made Green look rather silly in the fourth inning. After starting with a pitch low and out of the zone, Green swung through three straight pitches for the putout.

- After being hit by the pitch, Green showed little outward reaction then politely handed the baseball to the umpire. His selflessness, toughness, and grittiness could do wonders for clubhouse chemistry. Also, if not for Tulane’s field turf, his jersey would have certainly been covered in dirt from numerous slides.

If for some reason I cant figure out how to get the video to embed in the FanPost, you can see it here.

A trade proposal for AK1984

AK1984's ex-girlfriend (.323/.431/.672) takes him back -- with the condition that she nullifies her restraining order -- in exchange for a mix-tape, an old photograph, the prospect of dinner at the Metropolitan Grill, and a foot massage to be named later.

If I'm AK1984 I'm going to seriously explore the possibility of making this happen. It's one of those deals where both parties come out ahead in the end.
