Moved from southern New Mexico to Colorado becuase I got tired of missing Rockies and Broncos games (that was before you could buy all games). If you think my opinions are wrong then fine, let's discuss it. If all you can come up with is "you suck" or some other stupid comment then don't waste my time.

Armando Galarraga - An Apodaca project? Worth a shot?
I just read that after designating Armando Galarraga for assignment the Tigers are now looking to trade him. http://topnews360.tmcnet.com/topics/associated-press/articles/2011/01/21/136943-tigers-will-try-trade-galarraga.htm
So here is my question. Do any of you think that it would be worth it for the Rockies to give Armando Galarraga a shot? I don't like the idea of trading away a Rockies prospect and taking on his $2.3 million one year deal, but if there are no takers and he is actually designated for assignment, I think it would be worth taking a shot, especially if he would sign a minor league deal and come to Spring Training.
Granted I don't know a lot about him. The reason I would like to take a look is because in that one amazing game, blown by a bad call, he showed a lot of character. Apodaca has a history of taking other teams cast-offs and turning them into good pitchers. I think Galarraga has talent, he went 13-7 and finished 4th in RoY voting in 2008. That type of potential, with that kind of character, I think he is a better project for Dac than Franklin Morales.
I like the Rockies rotation of Ubaldo, JDLR, Chacin (we need to come up with a nickname for him), Hamel and Cook. However, nobody finishes a season with 5 starters and after those 5 I think it is pretty slim pickin's.
So my question is, 1. Do you think he is worth a shot. 2. What would it take. It is easy to say a minor league deal with no guarantees, but would you consider picking up his $2.3 million for this year in a trade for a minor league player?
Francis to Sign with the Royals
I just saw that according to MLB Blogs Jeff Francis is going to Kansas CIty Royals. http://mlb.mlblogs.com/. Good for him, I hope he does well. My hart still wanted to find a way to bring him back into the purple mix, but my head knew better. I personally think that now he has had time to recover from his shoulder injury he will be back to being a good pitcher. However, as much as I would like to have him back he just does not fit right now. Just my opinon though.
Best of luck Jeff and thanks for all you did with the Rockies!!
Brad Hawpe to the Tampa Bay Rays
I am sure one of the "official" resources on this site will soon be posting this, but MLB.com is reporting that Brad Hawpe is set to sign with the Rays. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100827&content_id=13984904&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Mixed feelings for me. I hope things work out well for him there. However, I was really hoping he would go home to Fort Worth and re-unite with Clint Hurddle. First base for the Rangers really seemed like a great fit to me.
The passing of Howard Weese
The Rockies organization has lost another beloved member. On May 17, 2010, Howard Weese left his battle with ALS to be with God. Howard's primary position with the Rockies was as the left field club supervisor. However, he also worked Rockies Spring Training for 10 years. Howard was born in Danville Illinois on October 20, 1928 one of 6 brothers. He was involved in athletics all his life and even had a minor league contract, signed by Branch Rickey with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Howard started with the Rockies the day Coors Field opened. During his time there he made many, many friends. Those who knew him will always remember his simple answer to the question "How are you doing..." it was always the same...."utterly fantastic."
Howard requested that his body be donated to science to aid in research to find a cure to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). A private ceremony was held on Monday May 24, 2010 with many of the Rockies current and past front office and management in attendance. Many of you may have seen Howard recite Lou Gehrig's famous speech on July 4, 2009 at Coors Field. http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/IktHP-Rwc8s/Arizona+Diamondbacks+v+Colorado+Rockies/ozv6BhGR_ey/Howard+Weese
I personally never had the honor of meeting Howard. However, my wife knew him and now works very closely with those at the ballpark that he worked and laughed with during his time with the Rockies. It has become very obvious to her that Howard will be sorely missed in body, but his spirit will always have a front row seat to watch his beloved Rockies play ball.
