Broad Street Hockey Flyers in the Off-Season

The series with the Devils certainly shocked every Flyers' fan. After a domination of the Penguins, many thought that New Jersey would just be a slight bump in the road. Not true. The Devils shut-down the Flyers completely and stunned everyone in Philly.

So heading into the off-season, certain things will need to be addressed. Lets take a look at what the Flyers' off-season could look like.

Broad Street Hockey Bryzgalov's confidence showing through team's play.

One month ago, every Flyers fan would get sick to their stomach at the thought of Ilya Bryzgalov being a Flyers for the next decade. Now a days, the thought of it doesn't seem so bad. Bryz's play in recent weeks shows one of the biggest in-season turnarounds that had ever been demonstrated by an individual player.

His play as of late has made the Flyers a cup contender once again this season. The one thing that the team has been missing for 15 years (and was missing for the better part of this season) now seems to be the team's strongest point. But aside from Bryzgalov, who has pitched three straight shutouts and four in his last five games, playing like the franchise goalie everyone hopes he'd be, the rest of the team shows more confidence in front of their re-born goaltender.

Broad Street Hockey Flyers Going Forward

The Flyers have made some solid deals in the past few days which show they are not giving up on this season just yet. The acquisitions of Nicklas Grossman and Pavel Kubina address a lot of the needs the Flyers had: a crease-clearing defense-man, two big bodies and some veteran leadership. The Flyers also acquire a right-handed defense-man, which they have not possessed on a night-to-night basis since Jason Smith back in 2008 (the most recent was Matt Walker, and before him Steve Eminger, but both had short stints with the club). Kubina's booming shot will also be gladly welcomed by the Flyers.

Broad Street Hockey The Post-Pronger Era

As the old saying goes, "the bigger they are, the harder they fall". That pretty much sums it up when it comes to Flyers' captain Chris Pronger. The big man has fallen pretty hard, and he won't be getting up anytime soon. This news comes as a devastating shock to the Flyers to say the least.

Which brings us to the post-Pronger era in Philadelphia. This means that different players are going to step-up on the ice and in the dressing room. The loss of the captain leaves a hole on the power-play, penalty-kill and shutdown situations for the Flyers. Lets take a look at what the Flyers will need to do to overcome this incredible obstacles.

Broad Street Hockey Plugging in The New Flyers

With the massive roster over-haul this summer, it has left many (if not all) Flyers' fans where exactly these new players fit into the line-up. The new faces of Wayne Simmonds, Jakub Voracek, Brayden Schenn, Andreas Lilja, Max Talbot and possibly Michael Nylander all have seperate roles on this team. Simmonds brings the hard-hitting, rough and tumble game. Schenn is a speedster who can play both the wing at centre. Voracek is a big winger who has great offensive instincts. Lilja is a stay-at-home, depth defenseman who can provide some stability on the bottom pairing, while Nylander brings a veteran presence, depth at centre and playmaking ability. But where can we plug these players on the depth chart?

Broad Street Hockey Danny Briere

Most Philly fans are worrying about the loss of scoring with the departures of ex-captain Mike Richards and Jeff Carter. But even with these two players gone, we still have the best pure goal-scorer on the Flyers; Danny Briere. Briere is the best pure scorer on the Flyers, and look for him to have his most productive season yet. Briere hit a high in goals last season, and once again performed great in the playoffs. I would not be surprised to see Briere hit the 80 poinr mark this season, and once again surpass the 30-goal plato. This is #48's team now, and it's his time to lead the charge offensively for the Flyers.

Broad Street Hockey Possible Third-Line Centers

The Flyers are now in need of a third-line center with the absences of Mike Richards and Jeff Carter. Many agree that the Flyers should give Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier more time to develop before sticking them in that role. There are many centers on the market this year, but who would be the best fit? The Flyers need a big body who is capable of playing in a shutdown role, so here are some possibilities.

Brooks Laich

Laich seems to be the favourite to fill this void. He has proven to be a solid two-way player in Washington. Laich even played second-line for a good amount of his time with the capitals. Laich tallied 16 goals and 32 assists for 48 points this year. Laich also played in all 82 games (which he has done three of the last four seasons), averaging 18:25 minutes per night. He could be a valuable player for the Flyers if he signs for a reasonable price.

Eric Belanger

Another formal Capital who could be a good fit in the orange and black. Belanger had a solid season this year with the Coyotes, tallying 13 goals and 27 assists for 40 points while competing in all 82. He averaged just 17:20 minutes this year and only took 36 minutes in penalties. He only made 750,000 last year, so he will be looking for a raise, although it won't be that big. His low price-tag might be attractive for the Flyers.

Michael Handzus

The former Flyer might be in the running for a job in Philly. His large stature of 6 foot 4 inches could be a great fit in that third-line checking role. Although his offensive skills may have dropped over the past couple of seasons, Handzus still put up 30 points while playing in all 82 games this season while averaging 17:20 minutes per night. He will be taking a substantial pay cut from the 4 million he made last season, so he may be a good fit in Philly. Handzus has only missed one game in the passed four seasons and led the Kings in blocked shots each of the passed four seasons.

Marty Reasoner

Another player who played all 82 games, Reasoner could very well be a tremendous fit in Philadelphia. Reasoner has a descently large frame of 6 foot 1 inch and weighing 205 pounds. Reasoner put up 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points this year, averaging 17:09 minutes per game on a poor Panthers team. Reasoner could be attracitve for his cheap price tag.

Jason Arnott

Arnott is a guy who would bring a lot of grit and leadership to the Flyers' line-up. The soon-to-be 37-year-old has a massive frame of 6 foot 5 inches and still knows what to do in the offensive zone. Arnott would have to take a large pay cut in order to come to Philly from his current salary of 4.5 million per season.

Who would be the best fit?

The best fit for the third-line center role is Brooks Laich. He is a sound defensive player who has a tremendous offensive up-side. Laich would make the Flyers better and would fill the role well. Laich has proven his offensive skills with three consecutive seasons of tallying 20-plus goals, although that streak was stopped this year after only tallying 16 goals.

Who is realistic?

Handzus is probably the most realistic fit in Philly. He will be asking less money than Laich and is still an excellent defensive-forward. Handzus has tremendous size for the position and role the Flyers are looking for. While the Flyers would be losing offense should Handzus be chosen over Laich, they would gain size and would be better defensively.

Broad Street Hockey A Columbus Deal?

Now most of you will start bashing me for jumping the gun to early with rumors, but just hear me out. I was fooling around on capgeek.com and was taking a look at both the Flyers and the Columbus Blue Jackets cap situation. I came up with a deal that I think would benefit the Flyers while clearing some space. Flyers Aquire: Jakub Voracek (RFA rights), Fedor Tyutin, Matt Calvert, 1st round draft pick (8th overall) and another pick (3rd or 4th round) Blue Jackets Aquire: Jeff Carter, Braydon Coburn and Kris Versteeg Now obviousley the Jackets would be getting the better of the deal. An elite goal scorer, up-and-coming winger and young top-four defenseman. But this is a deal that can help the Flyers while freeing up cap-space. The Flyers would get two young forwards who have a ton of hype with small contracts. Voracek is a RFA to be, so he will probably see if salary rise about three million dollars. I that is the case, Voracek would be making around 2.2 million. Calvert has a cap friendly contract of of just under 900 thousand per season. He put up 11 goals and 20 points in 40 games this season, which was his rookie season. Tyutin would bring a big body to the blue-line and could pair with Kimmo Timonen. He is shut-down defenseman who makes less than Coburn. The Flyers would gladly take the 8th overall pick along with another one in the later rounds Why I Think This Deal is Possible? The Jackets are in dier need of a top-line centre to play with Rick Nash, so they would pretty much give up anything to get their hands on him. Versteeg would bring a depth winger to Columbus who can be used on both a shut-down line and a scoring line. Coburn is also a hot commodity as he is still relatively young and could easily be the top defenseman on Columbus. On the Flyers side, they would primarily be gaining a ton of cap-space while aquiring some key pieces. The Fyers would love to add young forwards like Voracek and Calvert. They bring in a shut-down defenseman who is capable of logging 20 plus minutes per game. He is only 27 (one year older than Coburn) and would take pressure of Timonen and Chris Pronger. The high draft pick (which the Flyers desperately need) would help a lot by drafting a young gun for our future, along with another late-round pick. What do you guys think?

Broad Street Hockey Comparing the Bruins and Flyers

When comparing the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers, you see many similarities. Each have a big intimidating defenseman, Boston's being Zdeno Chara, and Philadelphia's being Chris Pronger. Looking even deeper into the defense, each team has a number two defenseman capable of being a number one, Boston's being Tomas Kaberle, Philadelphia's being Kimmo Timonen.

Beyong that, the defensive core of the Flyers and Bruins are very similar. Beyong Timonen and Pronger, the Flyers defense is led by Andrej Meszaros, Matt Carle and Braydon Coburn. Boston has solid defenders too beyond their two front men. Dennis Seidenberg is a shot blocking machine, Andrew Ference is a solid, reliable defender, and Johnny Boychuk is an up-and-coming big shut-down defender. Both have solid number six defensemen in Adam Mcquaid and Sean O'Donnell.

When comparing the top-line forwards, the Flyers and Bruins are not far off from eachother. The top-scoring line of the Bruins and Flyers consist of a power-forwards, a play-maker and finnisher. For the Flyers the pwoer-forward is Scott Hartnell, while for the Bruins it's Milan Lucic. The Flyers play-make is Ville Leino, and David Krejci. The finnisher for the Flyers is Danny Briere, while Nathan Horton is that for the Bruins.

As we move on to the second lines, we see more similarities. The second line of the Bruins consists of Patrice Bergeron, Mark Recchi and Brad Marchand. Bergeron is a great two-way player with a tremendous offernsive up-side. Recchi still knows how to finnish and put pucks in the net at age 43. Brad Marchand is the typical agitator who can score from time-to-time. Mike Richards is almost an identical player to Bergeron. They are both great two-way forwards who put the puck in the net quite often. Marchand and Dan Carcillo are very similar. Car-Bomb is just as much as an agitator (if not more of one) than Marchand, and both are capable of scoring. Kris Versteeg and Recchi are difficult to compare because of the age difference, but they do have similarities. Both are very sound deffensively and both can be feared offensively.

The third lines are comparable, but very different at the same time. The Flyers have more offensive power in Claude Giroux, James van Riemsdyk and Nikolay Zherdev. The Bruins however use their third line as more of a shut-down unit. Chris Kelly, Rich Peverly and Michael Ryder are used to play a solid defensive game while being able to score from time-to-time. When you comapre the two centres, it's kind of a no contest. Giroux is an offensive dynamtie who plays a great defensive game. Kelly is a checker and penalty killer, so it's an impossible comparisent. The same can be when comparing Rich Peverly and JVR. Peverly is a two-way player while JVR is a power forwards who is emerging into and elite scorer. Zherdev and Ryder are similar though. Both have great scoring ability and both are not known for their defensive abilities.

The fourth-lines are very similar like most fourth-lines in hockey. Gregory Campbell, Daniel Paille and Shawn Thornton form a fourh unit which is very tough to play against. They have toughness and great defensive ability. The Flyers always have Blair Betts and Darroll Powe working on the fourth line, while the thirs member is often swtiching. For comparisons sake, lets say Jody Shelley is the thirs member. That line brings exactly to the table as the Bruins: great defensive ability with a lot of toughness.

As for the goaltenders, the Bruins blow the Flyers out of the water. Tim Thomas is a former vezina trophy winner, and is a candidate once again this year. Their back-up Tuukka Rask is a capable starting goalie who has proved his ability in the bast. Both of these goalies are better options than any of the Flyers three, whther it be Brian Boucher, Sergei Bobrovsky or Michael Leighton.

So after comparing both squads inside and out, there is no secret as to why it's great when these teams go head-head. Both teams are almost identical in skill ability, with each team haaving an edge in their respective departments. The Bruins have a big edge in the goaltending match-up. The Flyers have a respectable edge when it comes to the defense because of their depth defenders.. When it comes to the forwards, the Flyers have a slight edge because of their surplus in offensive guns. Another note to consider, both are missing prime weapons in Jeff Carter and Marc Savard, making them even more even. Both teams are very skilled, making their head-to-head match-ups amazing to watch.

Broad Street Hockey Ray Emery

I really liked Ray Emery while he played in Philadelphia, and found that it was a shame when he was injured. It was rumoured that he wouldn't be able to return, to any team. He played admirably when he was healthy during his time in Philly. If I were the Flyers, I would make a play for Emery, but not just yet. The trade deadline is about a month away, so I would give Brian Boucher or Sergei Bobrovsky this time to prove that one of them is a legitimate starter. If they fail, I believe Emery should be looked at seriousley. But there would be an obvious issue: where are we supposed to put all of our goalies?

Broad Street Hockey If Roster Moves Are Coming, Who's Going?

All signs are pointing to the flyers bolstering their roster when the trade deadline comes around next month. the Flyers seem to be in the market for a veteran winger, hence them trying to aquire Jamie Langenbrunner a couple of weeks back. Players rumored to be on the Flyers' radar are Andrew Brunette, Eric Cole and Chris Clark, amonng many others. The Flyers are reportedly not looking for younger players like Kris Versteeg and Scottie Upshall. From rescent reports, the Flyers would like to aquire a player who's contract is up at the end of the season.

So if the Flyers are looking to get another players, what players on the current roster are vulnerable to trades? After the jump, I will list the untouchables, the unlikely players to be traded, the players who may be traded and the probably tradable assets.

Broad Street Hockey 2011/2012 Philadelphia Flyers

Well i'm just kind of bored so I decided to make a fanpost. I though of the possible cap situation for the flyers next season and had some fun on capgeek.com. I though of the RFA's and UFA's coming up this off-season and drew up this depth-chart for the Flyers' roster next season. Just a note, I added $1.4 million to the the salary cap (bringing it to $60.8 million) and tried to keep the current Flyers' roster together as much as possible.

Broad Street Hockey Dwayne Roloson

Dwayne Roloson has officially been traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning. This now makes Simon Gagne and the rest of the boys in T-Bay an even bigger threat in the Eastern Conference. The only question that surrounded the Lightning was the sub-par goaltending given to them by Mike Smith and Dan Ellis. Now they have a very capable starter in Roloson to lead their team and make them serious contenders. Roloson posted a 2.4 goals against average and a .916 on an awful New York Islanders team. The one thing that shocked was who the Isles got in return for Roloson. All the Lighting had to give up to get their starter was minor league defender Ty Wishart. Now since the Isles were willing to give Roloson up for such a low price, why didn' t the Flyers make a play for him?

Now I know a lot of you are going start tearing me a new you know what, but just hear me out. Roloson's contract is very leight for legitimate starting goalie. He only makes $2.5 million a year, and has only one year left on his deal. So even at the age 41, we don't have to worry about the long-term cap issues. He posted admirable number with the Islanders and was recently the first star of the week. So there's no question he still has a lot left in the tank.

Now most will argue that the Flyers goaltending has been fine, but the defense is to blame over this rescent stretch. But lets be honest here. Even if this is true, we have to look at last year. The Flyers got to the Stanley Cup Final with Michael Leighton (a journeyman goaltender) and Brian Boucher (a career back-up) between the pipes for most of the season. Yes, both went on hot streaks and played clutch games, but it was a good Flyers team who got their act together for a solid end-of-the-year run, it wasn't because of good goaltending. Boosh wasn't good down the stretch when Leights got hurt and only got hot in the series with the Devils. So the Flyers proved that they can win with sub-par goaltending last year during the regular season, much like they have this year.

But when the Cup Final came around, the Flyers couldn't win with goaltending issues. Leighton didn't play well and the league best Chicago Blackhawks took advantage of it to win the Stanley Cup. I still to this day believe that if Ray Emery were in net the cup would've come home to Philadelphia.

So once again this year the Flyers have proved (for most of the year) that they can win with sub-par goaltending and that they are able to stay at the top of the conference while rotating starters. But what worries me is a possible repeat of last year, where goaltending falls apart in the final. I believe that Sergei Bobrovsky still needs more time to develope before he can lead us to a Stanley Cup, while Leights and Boosh are incapable of doing so. All I'm saying is that Roloson was great opportunity to get a legitimate number one for a good shot at the cup. We could've given anyone one of our young defensemen (Oskars Bartulis, Kevin Marshall, Marc-Andre Bourdon, etc.) and possibly unloaded one of Leighton and Boucher in the process as well aa back-up for Rick Dipietro.

Let me know your thoughts.

Broad Street Hockey A Possible Zherdev Trade

Nikolay Zherdev have been anything but a success for the Flyers this season. He started off in the pre-season playing well, but has tailed off over the coarse of the season. After starting the season playing on a promising top-line with James van Riemsdyk and Claude Giroux, Zherdev now finds himself alongside Blair Betts and Jody Shelley on the fourth line, with the occasional shift with Giroux and Jeff Carter. He has very little power play time as well. He finds himself in Laviolette's dog house more times than not, and communicates very little (occording to Tim Panaccio and Bill Meltzer) with the team besides Oskars Bartulis. So I thought of trade that seems logical to me.

Broad Street Hockey My Roster Moves

As we all know, the Flyers have some tough roster moves to make. The returns of Michael Leighton and Dan Carcillo have brought some hard decisions for coach Peter Laviolette. On another note, Matt Walker seems to be itching closer to a return, meaning that we'd another defensemen to an already over-crowded roster. These are my personal roster moves once everyone is healthy.

Broad Street Hockey Jeff Carter's New Deal

Jeff Carter will be with the Flyers for another 11 years. Although the cap isn't all that bad (5.27/year), why was it necessary to sign him for so many years, which will keep him around longer than any other Flyer, including captain Mike Richards. Holmgren made this deal right after Carter's hat-trick game, but he seems to forget that history has tought us that Carter will most probably be sub-par for the next couple of games. Now I'm not against re-signing Carter (even though I believe dealing him would be better for the club), but why so long? He's not a desperately needed player and isn't the face of the franchise. There's no need for an emormous contract like this. Claude Giroux is more valuble than Carter in my opinion and he was only locked up for three years, which in my opinion is perfect. I would've given Carter a maximum a five years, around 2-3 seeming reasonable. It's obvious that a move isn't going to have to be made now for next season, seeing how we only have about 2 million in cap-space left for Ville Leino (who will most probably be signed shortly), Darroll Powe and Dan Carcillo. I'm now worried about the futures of Danny Briere and Scott Hartnell, who both deserve to stick around after what they have done for us. Anyway let me know what you guys think.

Broad Street Hockey The Flyers' Issues

The Flyers have many issues to star t this season. Under achievers, bad chemistry, poor power play, etc. But in this article I'd like to give my opinion on why there are these issues and ways that may fix them. Broad Street Hockey The Pain Not Going Away

I know this may be looked at as a pointless post, but I have to know if anyone else feels the same way. After watching last week's game vs the Lightning, I'm still having a hard time swallowing that Simon Gagne is gone. I feel that there is a piece missing from the Flyers' team and it's not the same with out watching number 12 skate around the ice. To be honest, I wasn't even mad when the Flyers lost that night, just so Gagne could stick it in Paul "the retard" Holmgren's face. Anyway I just wanted to know if anyone else is still having a diffivult time with this and if you feel the same way. Plus I have read one or two rumors stating a possible Gagne return once his contract is up. Even though I SERIOUSLEY doubt it, I was just wondering if anyone else had heard the same rumors or had any information on it.

Broad Street Hockey Backlund Going Through Waivers.

Guys don't go crazy, but would it be such a bad thing if Johan Backlund was picked up on waivers? Honestly, he gets paid around 900k for the next two years, plus hasn't there been this big commosion saying how we have too many goalies and no where to put them. Nic Riopel seems capable of back-stopping the Phantoms until Michael Leighton returns from inury, meaning Sergei Bobrovsky would likely go to the Phantoms. Not to mention our other goalies in the system such as Brian Stewart, Brad Phillips and Adam Morrison looking for playing time with the Phantoms. This is just my opinion, because personally, I would've not re-signed Backlund to begin with, knowing we had all these other goalies in the system and Leighton and Brian Boucher seemed penciled in as the two goalies with the Flyers. Tell me what you think.

Broad Street Hockey I Hope Paul Holmgren Is Happy.

So without fail the Flyers have goalie issues to the start the season. Even before Michael Leighton's "minor back injury" we had reason to worry, what the hell are we supposed to think now? Brian Boucher will most likely be the starter, and Johan Backlund will most probably back him up seeing they want Sergei Bobrovsky to get started in the AHL. So once again Holmgren has left us with no back-up plan.

Broad Street Hockey A Blessing In Disguise?

Now maybe this is just me, but is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking about the injury to Michael Leighton? If Leighton is injured long-term, could the Flyers make a move for a starter? I think they would, because earlier this off-season i had read a rumor stating that the Flyers would make a move for a starting goalie if their situation looked shaky in camp. Now I could be completely wrong, but it's just my thoughts. Let me know what you think.

Broad Street Hockey Should The Flyers Sign Bill Guerin?

So Bill Guerin seems to be a real possibily for the Flyers. He has already been practising with some Flyers, and a try-out contract seems to be imminent. Guerin could be a good asset to any team, but is would it be good to add him on the Flyers' roster? Broad Street Hockey Solution To Long-Term Cap Issue

So I know that there has been a lot of discussions about how to fix the cap problems. There have been people suggesting moving Carter, to moving Danny Briere and Scott Hartnell. Some even went as far as saying moving Kimmo Timonen, which I believe is ridiculous. This is my solution to this whole issue.

The first option should be Jeff Carter. Carter is a phenomenal player don't get me wrong, but it just seems that the right thing to do is move him. With Leino, Giroux and Zherdev up for new contracts after this season, I think Carter is the easiest way to keep the core together and have some cap space. Assume the Flyers give Giroux 4, Leino 2 and Zherdev 3.5, that's an increase of 5.8 million right there. So how can the Flyers afford to pay Carter around 6 million with these new contracts. I would rather have Giroux, Leino and Zherdev rather than Carter and Giroux. Plus Carter will bring you a lot in return (high draft picks and good forward prospects). Although, should Carter expload for a 40+ goal season, and Briere and Hartnell have sub-par seasons again, I would move one of them. Hartnell needs to get to at least 20 goals this year if he wants to be kept around, and Briere should hit 30 goals with at least 65 points.

The other thing I see happening is one of Andrej Meszaros, Braydon Coburn and Matt Carle getting moved. I thing one will be the odd-man out so the other you defensemen can step up. I think Carle is going to stay here for awhile because of his incredible breakout year with Chris Pronger helping him out. But he needs to keep playing at that caliber. Coburn really needs to have a bounce-back year. He needs to show that he is the playoff Coburn and not the regular season one. Meszaros will need to prove he just needed a change of scenarie to get back on track. He needs to become the player he was back in Ottawa. I think one of them will be moved with in the next two seasons, and it will also depend on the developement of Oskars Bartulis, Kevin Marshall and Marc-Andre Bourdon.

Broad Street Hockey Do The Flyers Have The Best Defense?

Last year the Flyers were considered to have one of the top defensive cores in the league. But as the season went on, we saw that the Flyers lacked some defensive depth. I still believe that even last year the Flyers had the best top four in the league, but did in fact lack a solid third pairing. But the aquisitions of Andrej Meszaros, Matt Walker and Sean O'Donnell has given the Flyers questionably the best defensive core in the entire league.

But there are other teams that have upgraded their defenses in a big way this year. There were tons of defensemen on the market this year so it gave teams the opportunity to get the right peices they neede for their defenses. Let's take a look at the top seven defensemen of teams that are challenging the Flyers for the top defense in the league.

Now there has not been much of all going on as of late this off-season. Everything is basically in place for the up-coming season. Now everyon is laying out their projected lines and guessing who will be the back-up goalie. A couple of posts have been talking about the All-Time Flyers team with all of the best lines. Well I'm just going to take a look at the the best Flyers from the past decade. I'll go by position, so some player will not make the cut due to their position even though another may be better. I will also name the captain and the four alternates just for fun. Al players will be judged by how they were in their primes. Not all the lines were actually were put together, all players are in their place one depth chart according to their performances. This is purely for fun and because there has not been much to write about lately. Let me know what you think.

Broad Street Hockey A Hidden Starter?

Well with the season nearing closer and closer it looks like Michael Leighton will in fact be the starter come opening night against the Penguins. Brian Boucher (as of right now) seems to be penciled in as the back-up. But some what of a dark horse here is Johan Backlund. I knew that many people (as did I) think that Backlund could beat out Boucher for the back-up, but could we see him emerge as the starter during training camp?

Broad Street Hockey Unfortunate Ending.

So what can we expect now? The Gagne saga has ended, the defense position has been taken care of, all the forwards are set and most of all there are no more options as far as goaltenders go. As this off-season has gone on, more and more goalie names have come off the market. To think that with such a vast number of goaltenders out there this off season that the Flyers would not take one. For a team like the Flyers who were seemingly in the market for a goalie, it was a dream come true. But unfortunately, it was not the ending I (and probably a lot of you) were hoping for.

Broad Street Hockey Who Will Wear The "A"?

Last year the Flyers had no shortage of leaders. We had Mike Richards wearing the "C", and four others rotating the "A"s. At home we saw Simon Gagne and Kimmo Timonen, and away it was Chris Pronger and Jeff Carter. But with the depature of Gagne there is a hole left open. We have three guys already, and I know we technically only need two, but I think that we'll add another one, so we can have two and two like we did last season. Here are some possibilities to wear the "A" next season in place of Gagne.
