Jaromir Jagr leaves NHL for Omsk, Russia

For those of us who might have banked some hope on landing Jaromir Jagr again for another season or two in Pittsburgh - well, forget it. Regardless of what trades needed to be made to free up money for the veteran winger, the former Penguin landed a deal in Omsk, Russia that will net him a pretty penny - tax free I might add.

ESPN Magazine Ranks Mario Lemieux

In a recent post up on ESPN the magazine's site, writer Ted Bauer ranked the top 500 Canadian athletes of all time. Ranked number one was, as you can imagine, Wayne Gretzky. Rocket Richard landed in second, Gordie Howe third and Bobby Orr fifth.

But where did Mario land?

291 out of 500.

Yeah.

Steve Nash, as good an athlete as he is, should not rank at 187.

NHL salary cap expands

The NHL announced the salary cap will expand for the upcoming season by a drastic $6.4 million difference. This is huge for the Penguins, who may have the capabilities of working something out now with two of their bigger players thanks to the extra cash.
