For those of us who might have banked some hope on landing Jaromir Jagr again for another season or two in Pittsburgh - well, forget it. Regardless of what trades needed to be made to free up money for the veteran winger, the former Penguin landed a deal in Omsk, Russia that will net him a pretty penny - tax free I might add.

Plenty of signings yesterday, but there are still a few guys out on the market who've been included in some of the Penguins banter.

Naslund - Jagr - Demitra

Not so say the team isn't happy in working out deals with Orpik and Malkin yesterday, but maybe we'll be surprised today.

Today's news

Miroslav Satan signs with Penguins - 1-year, $3.5 million

Ruslan Fedotenko signs with Penguins - 1-year, $2.25 million

Marc-Andre Fleury extension - 7-year, $35 million (not official yet - Source) [Thanks hockeyjenn]

In a recent post up on ESPN the magazine's site, writer Ted Bauer ranked the top 500 Canadian athletes of all time. Ranked number one was, as you can imagine, Wayne Gretzky. Rocket Richard landed in second, Gordie Howe third and Bobby Orr fifth.

But where did Mario land?

291 out of 500.

Yeah.

Steve Nash, as good an athlete as he is, should not rank at 187.

Here is the note beside his name:

Great player, no doubt. Won titles, no doubt. Helped save hockey in Pittsburgh, no doubt. Issue: in ten years, he'll be replaced in both Canadian and Pittsburgh hockey lore by…

Dany Sabourin - of course.
