McCovey Chronicles Giants Step Up Pursuit of Jorge Cantu

Following article found this morning...  thoughts? comments?

By Tim Dierkes [July 28 at 8:25am CST]

The Giants have stepped up their pursuit of Marlins corner infielder Jorge Cantu, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.  They may hold an edge over the Rangers and Rockies.  He says the Fish are believed to be seeking a young lefthander.  The Giants have been using Travis Ishikawa at first base lately, while third baseman Pablo Sandoval is set to return from personal leave tonight.

In terms of young lefties, the Giants have reliever Dan Runzler on the DL with a knee injury and starter Eric Surkamp at High A.  Clayton Tanner and Craig Clark also fit into their Baseball America top 30 prospect list heading into the season.  Joe Martinez cracked the list the prior year.

Yesterday ESPN's Jayson Stark wrote that the Rangers and Marlins' talks for Cantu appeared hung up over dollars.  The Rangers want the Marlins to assume all of the $2.22MM remaining on Cantu's contract.

Golden State Of Mind Jonathan Sanchez Pitches a NO HITTER!

Give it up to our fellow bay area team, the SF Giants and Jonathan Sanchez pitching his first career NO HITTER after being pulled from the starting pitchers line-up.  It was certainly a game to watch, and somethign experience as a bay area sports fan.  He deserves to be on "probation" in my opinion. With a season that started off rocky, and now a comeback performance proving he truly wants to be there.  Is it a fluke?  Can he secure his position back in the starting line-up at least while the Big Unit is gone?!  Only time shall tell.   Comments??!

Clips Nation Baron on 1050AM, Says Returning to Warriors

not playing with anyones emotions on this one, he was talking to Dan Patrick, and Dan Patrick was freaking out… saying “are you kidding? are you lying to me? should I write this down with a pen or pencil” Baron said, " I will be playing in Golden State this year."

So… conclusion… one of two things… WAS anyone listening this morning to 680, when someone said… If Brand signs Philly or Golden State, Baron will probably resign with the Warriors. The strange thing that he did say was “not that I have heard this from anyone or anything, so dont quote me”.... I think there was some inside information this morning too… looking back, hindsight is 20/20

I am looking for confirmation, ANYWhere on the net. I will let everyone know if I find it.

Can anyone else find this information?

Golden State Of Mind Baron on 1050AM just a minute ago

Did anyone else hear it?  Baron stating that he is playing with the Golden State Warriors this year? Baron on 1050AM just a minute ago talking to whomever.  And he was saying, should I write this down with a pencil or a pen?

My friend even called me after he heard it...

What is going on????

Was that old, or did that just happen?  I know it wasn't a dream.  Were we alone in hearing this?

Golden State Of Mind Why Brand is signing with Dubs, or is he that dumb?

okay, this is the only time I will post something like this. 20 million dollars is a lot of dollars for someone who has maybe 7-8 years left in their career tops. Unless he is beyond belief stupid, which may be the case, living in LA all those years. Collusion? Yes… but money talks and BS walks… if you know what I mean. They are certainly not a "Boston" type movement in LA. They aren’t even comparable to the Lakers. Let alone a Boston movement. Now seriously, if Brand isn’t STRONGLY considering coming to the Warriors, I would be very shocked. You drive up to my house with a dumptruck of money and say, "hey come play with my for the next 5 years" I dont care who you are, I would fly to see you and our "dream" of a championship to make our movies together. We could even make a basketball movie about our imaginary championship. Because, forgive me now… but the Clippers with Baron and Elton, are not contenders for a title. He would have a better opportunity with the Warriors, up and coming and a good draft next year, a free agent signing the year after that, with all the true "ballers" All-stars. You have to also look at the avail of money for the warriors vs. the clippers in 2010. Warriors, even with Brand, have more signing ability. Did I mention Ellis? The game is not won by the point guard. Do you want proof and point? See… Stephen Jackson, see the Celtics, see the Lakers. I vote yes on Brand to the Dubs… Why is this? we have been courting him since before his injury. Last point- money is money. The reason he is playing is for money. So, I bet you will hear this statement by Friday. "My dream of championship looked good on paper, but it wasn’t PAPER" Ya digg!

Golden State Of Mind update on Brand

UPDATE: July 3, 9:40 AM  Marc Stein of ESPN implies that there's a chance Brand will take the Warriors offer.

Marc Stein implies a bunch of things.  What does imply necessarily mean? Does it mean that he has overheard something, doubtful, as we all know ESPN sells ratings, stirs pots and overembellishes on a lot of things.

Golden State Of Mind Summer league announces team, inc. Demarcus Nelson

In Warriors' news not involving Baron Davis, the team did announce summer league team

POSTED July 2, 12:52 PM
Marco Belinelli If you’re looking for news regarding the Warriors not involving Baron Davis heading to the Los Angeles Clippers, they did announced their roster and schedule for their summer leagues in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City at the Rocky Mountain Revue.

As you’d expect Brandan Wright, Marco Belinelli, C.J. Watson, Anthony Randolph and Richard Hendrix will be playing.

Two interesting names filling out the roster: DeMarcus Nelson and Mykal Riley.

Nelson was born in Oakland, attended high school in Sacramento and then played four years at Duke. Nelson was the ACC-Defensive Player the Year and All-ACC First Team this past season.

He’s athletic and defense-oriented, which should make him worth a look.

As for Riley, the Warriors are likely to keep a real close eye on him this summer. Riley shot 43 percent from 3-point range last season at Alabama, making him the second-best 3-point shooter in the 2008 NBA draft.

Only Shan Foster, selected by Dallas at No. 51, shot better from beyond the arc than Riley.

With Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus likely gone and Kelenna Azubuike an uncertainty, Riley will get an opportunity.

He's athletic, can run the floor and is long. He struggles keeping guys in front of him on defense, and he's not supposed to be a great ballhandler. But that weakness wasn't apparent in his individual workouts.

In fact, I'm calling it right now: Riley will make the team.
