This is my first and probably only FanPost of 2009 as i believe this is a reflection of how the story of 2009 is playing out. I wrote this as a comment and felt so strongly about it i felt it was deemed worthy of a FanPost as i believe this hasn't been discussed enough.

With a healthy Polomalu, we’re a Super Bowl contender . Without him, we’re a wild card. Period. Our offense can keep up with the Colts, the Patriots, Vikings, Saints, Eagles and Chargers. But what sets us apart from them and what i believe gives us the edge: Our Defense with a healthy Polomalu.

The Madden Curse.

This will be the title written on the cover of the book of the 2009 season. If he can come back and be healthy starting in 2 weeks and going forward, tell me which game we lose?

@ Kansas City, @ Baltimore, Oakland, @ Cleveland, Green Bay, Baltimore, @ Miami

@Baltimore? Maybe. But i think our chances are very high with Polomalu in there as a most likely win as this ain’t the same Ravens.

With a healthy Polomalu we won’t lose another regular season game.

And if Cincy loses 2 of the next 7 games we get the #2 seed. We get the #2 seed even if the Patriots win out the rest of the way as they would be tied with us but more losses against the AFC.

Analyze as much as you want folks. Deny it all you want. I know Tomlin doesn’t buy into that “hocus pocus”. I know that the “level of expectation doesn’t change”. Even though the level of expectation doesn’t change, the level of play changes through the entire team when Polomalu is out there. The hocus pocus is what it is. Check out the last 10 years of when a player gets on the cover and what happened to him and the team the next year.

The story of 2009 all comes down to this: the Madden Curse.
