Brett Anderson vs. Clayton Kershaw

Being is the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death. However, Being is not only beyond but also deep within every form as its innermost invisible and indestructible essence. This means that is is accessible to you now as your own deepest self, your true nature. But don't seek to grasp it with your mind. Don't try to understand it. You can know it only when the mind is still.

Thomas Anson (c. 1695-30 March 1773), was a British Member of Parliament, traveller and amateur architect.

Anson was the son of William Anson (1656-1720) and Isabella Carrier, siter-in-law to the 1st Earl of Macclesfield. The family estate was Shugborough Hall in Staffordshire. Admiral George Anson, 1st Baron Anson, was his younger brother and along with their cousin George Parker, 2nd Earl of Macclesfield, they were taught mathematics and navigation by Isaac Newton's friend the mathemetician William Jones, who was later to propose Anson's membership for the Royal Society in 1730. Anson went up to St John's College, Oxford, and later studied law at the Inner Temple.

Upon his father's death Anson abandoned law and began the first of many travels to the continent as was then the fashion for young men of fortune and taste. In 1732 Anson and his friend the Earl of Sandwich formed a riotous dining-club called the Society of the Dilettanti which also had the more serious purpose of encouraging study of Greek architecture. In 1740 Thomas briefly joined his brother George on The Centurion as he and his crew began their circumnavigation of the globe. Anson left them in order to travel to Egypt. This qualified him for the Egyptian Society and the Divan Society, the latter being a wild drinking-club of which Lord Dashwood and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu were avid members.

Mike Minor is White?

So, I'm reading Baseball America's Prospect Hot Sheet today, like I (and I'm sure most of you) do every Friday, and as I'm scrolling down looking at each player's writeup, I see that Braves pitching prospect Mike Minor is #10.  Then I look at his picture -- Mike Minor is a white guy?!?

Like really, really white...

Ever since the Braves drafted him, I had just assumed Mike Minor was black. Why did I do that?  Was it just because his name was Mike??  Did I just figure that Ike is always a black man's name because of Mike Vick???  Does this make me a racist????

Has anybody else ever found themselves in a similar situation with a player -- thinking he was one race, when he actually turned out to be another?!?

This is the best pitching debut I think I've ever seen.

I DVR'd the game, so I'm gonna check it out later.

Desmond Jennings goes 7-7 tonight

I know it's just one game, and doesn't bear a whole lot of significance, but damn, yo.

Brian Matusz

I don't mean to be a dick, but Brian Matusz has got to be the worst #1 pitching prospect in recent memory.

91 mph fastball. Excessively hyped up offspeed stuff. The mechanics of a paraplegic.

Ignore the hyperbole if you so desire (previous sentence), but this guy is now pretty much the consensus #1 pitching prospect in baseball.

Something isn't right.

I've never seen a #1 pitching prospect have such a low ceiling.

Something isn't right.

Dude's about to break loose. This guy tore up the Texas HIgh School circuit in '07, and was hyped up big time when he signed for $925,000. Looks like he's finally cumming around.

Jhoulys Chacin to Colorado

This looks like a Derek Holland-type promotion.

Bullpen transition to rotation.
