Windy City Gridiron In defense of the defense

Over the past few days we have all gotten a little despondent with the state of our team.  After a tough loss against our biggest rival, it happens all to easily and I'm as guilty of it as anyone.  With just 180 minutes left of game time in our season barring any overtimes.  It seems like a good time to discuss the bright spots so that we can all try to maximize our enjoyment of the final 180 minutes.  Like all the good things in life it goes to fast.

I am going to start on the defense and will have to follow up on the other side of the ball in another post.  Follow me through the jump and lets get to it.  Don't forget to vote in the poll.

Has some great Candid interviews of NFL players. Love the interview with Urlacher. He seems to be enjoying himself, under the circumstances who wouldn't.

Wasn't sure how to embed this, scroll down for the Urlacher interviews. Hope this hasn't been posted before, first time I saw it.

Here is an Onion style article about the Bears signing Usain Bolt. Not saying it is a good or bad idea, just fun to think about.

Windy City Gridiron How about Michael Vick for (WR) duties? Rendition II

First I would like to say, thanks for the post Ratbone934, appreciate the opportunity to argue with you.

For some reason I can't repy to the first rendition of this post.  Not sure what's up with that?

I knew something was up when the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I got goose bumps on my forearms.  Somebody was channeling Carol Slezak, from the Sun-Times, on WCG.  Well, with my finger-tips all itchy and no way to respond, it was time to post.

All I can say is:

NO!! seriously, nnNOOOoo!!!

Jay Cutler to Michael Vick sounds to me like George McGovern to George Bush, Tom to Jerry, or Wily E. Coyote to Road Runner.  You can't have Bugs Bunny as you BFF then invite Elmer Fudd over for dinner.  That would be asking for it and you would get what you deserved. Period.

Windy City Gridiron Credit where and if it's due

Hello Windy City,

This is my first post so please bear with me (pun intended).

I'm seeking your feedback.  I was recently watching the NFL network and the topic of discussion was Cutler's $100,000 or $150,000 work out bonus, whichever mostly irrelevant.  Apparently he is eligible to receive it in Chicago though he had missed it in Denver.  Fine with me, hope he earns it.

Made me wonder though, have JA and Lovie implemented a winning strategy?  The timing seems uncannily convenient.  We had our first mandatory team minicamp a couple weeks ago, earlier than usual (pre Cutler trade).  We started our work-out program (post Cutler trade and Pace signing), a little later than other teams.  Seems to me that this has really put Bears coaches in a position to evaluate players from last year, complete trades (Cutler), sign free agents (Pace, Omiyale, Shaffer, Josh Bullocks...), prepare for the draft, evaluate all new players and create a depth chart.

In the past I've been pretty critical of JA and this coaching staff.  Just want to make sure that I'm giving credit where it is due.  It is easy to hate on JA and coaches when I'm considering Benson and the myriad of other 1st round draft picks, the Jones trade, Bob Babich, and a couple of other things that I didn't like.

This time around I like where we are positioned, the 2009 Bears off-season has me generally intrigued, hell I'm excited.

My main question for you is:  Do you all think that JA has gotten lucky in this, or has he finally brought it all together and come up with a winning strategy?  Are you all as optimistic as I am for 2009?  Which years off-season made you feel as or more optimistic than 2009?

I wanted to make more than one poll, one QB related, don't know how to make more than one.
