I'm a 1976 K-State graduate with major in print journalism. Wrote high school sports for the Manhattan Mercury in 1972-73. I was a "townie," - I grew up in Manhattan, (and that was fun in the late 60s and early 70s) !!!
I was on the third row inside Ahearn fieldhouse in 1963 when the Wildcats lost by 3 pts to UCLA's first chapionship (BB) team. (trivia, we also went to the Final Four in 1964 and lost to UCLA in the semifinal in Kansas City)
I was going to football games in the old Memorial Stadium in the mid-60s when we really sucked at football. I was in KSU Stadium when #2 ranked Penn State beat us in 1969 (17-14) and several weeks later when we put a beat down on the Sooners, 59-21, my second favorite K-State win, after 1998 win against the Huskers.
