I'm a 1976 K-State graduate with major in print journalism. Wrote high school sports for the Manhattan Mercury in 1972-73. I was a "townie," - I grew up in Manhattan, (and that was fun in the late 60s and early 70s) !!!

I was on the third row inside Ahearn fieldhouse in 1963 when the Wildcats lost by 3 pts to UCLA's first chapionship (BB) team. (trivia, we also went to the Final Four in 1964 and lost to UCLA in the semifinal in Kansas City)

I was going to football games in the old Memorial Stadium in the mid-60s when we really sucked at football. I was in KSU Stadium when #2 ranked Penn State beat us in 1969 (17-14) and several weeks later when we put a beat down on the Sooners, 59-21, my second favorite K-State win, after 1998 win against the Huskers. I've seen a lot -

The Big (b)East: The Best College Basketball Conference, Ever

I know, I know. Just two days ago I was advocating for merging with the Mountain West. But I have changed my mind.  What a beast for a basketball conference. The football divisions would be good...

As Horace Greeley Said: "Go West, Young Man"

Conference consolidation (I refuse to call it re-alignment) madness has reached a critical point for the long term interests of my beloved K-State. This is written upon the assumption that Sooner,...

Best football conference in USA, and how it happens

(In my wildest dream.) The deal is done. The Big 12 is now the BEST football conference in the U.S.A., with the best television footprint imaginable. We did a clean swap of Aggie for Razorback...

Bring in Notre Dame, make it a 10 team conference, two divisions, and end the madness

Some times we overlook the obvious answer - we complicate things. Mushrooms will do that. To entice the Domers, make it a ten team conference with two divisions. Play all teams in your division...

Beergut and the "Stoned Ape Theory of Evolution"

I’d really like to have a sit-down with Beergut and have a talk about the "The Stoned Ape Theory of Evolution" and its relevance to this conference realignment madness. Deloss and Powers probably...

Oh, The Joy of a Great Jump Shot! (And a Nice Mention for a K-Stater)

Many have tolerated my rantings about the artistry (and usefulness) of a great jump shot. Apparently I’m not alone. More after the jump.

A Request to Frank, Jake and CK

At the request of S. Bailey, I’m turning this into a FanPost. It was originally a comment to last night’s Big 12 Outlook Post. This paragraph (the stuff before the jump) is new. I really did get...

K-STATE'S Top Eleven in Basketball

Okay, the debate raged as to whether Jake should be considered one of K-State's all time greats. We’ll get to that later. I thought I’d offer my opinion of the top eleven K-State players. My...

A poll, considering the positives displayed in the NU game

There were a lot of pleasant things to see upon watching KSU beat a decent and disciplined NU team.  My thoughts on some of the positives and a poll which asks what you as a fan would prefer, a B12...

Is a Hit Job on K-State Coming on the Cam Newton Thing?

Do you recall the comments I made during the open game thread about ESPN always focusing on K-State’s recruiting of JUCO players? Part of their agenda to minimize our program? I have a bad...

The Verdict On Furnace's Memory (frightening actually)

I was always afraid it would come to this. Yes, it’s official now and it’s something I’ll have to confront, contemplate, and deal with (another shot of Wild Turkey, perhaps). The brain cells are...

Poll on Furnace's Memory

Okay, we have the definitive answer to the questions I posed regarding the score by the Kansas Comet (Gale Sayers) in the October 31, 1964 contest between KSU and the wretched Jayhawks. I will...

Pre Snyder Era Running Back Summary (and other interesting tidbits)

Okay, here is Grandpa's list of best running backs (and I’ve seen in person every player in the record book since 1964, except for the years 1987-1989, when I was on a "deep cover" assignment,...

THE PURPLE HAT CAPER OF 1970
