Big Cat Country Is it just me.....

or does the local media just blow your mind. I can almost accept, and at least feel sorry for, the Tebow faithful that just can't imagine why a team like the Jaguars would not want him. Deep down inside, these people are true to the core Gator fans, and Tim Tebow was a huge part of the team that gave them many years of glory. We here are fans of the Jaguars. I think we can all at least respect the passion Gator fans have for their team, as misguided as it may seem at some times. It is another group from Jacksonville that really turns my stomach.

Big Cat Country The three main reasons we lost yesterday......

I, like Alfie, do not like to attack a player after a loss.  I remember form playing that it can be far more harmful than good when done during a game, and after the game, well you can't cry about spilled milk.  I am not going to cry this morning, but I am going to list the three things that better get fixed ASAP.

Big Cat Country My current view of the 2011 Jacksonville Jaguars

I went into the game Sunday against the Panthers excited to watch Blaine Gabbert get his first start, and fully believing that we could beat the Carolina team.  Obviously the outcome did not match my expectations in terms of a victory, but something bigger happened to me during that game.

Big Cat Country Could the 16th pick of the NFL draft be the biggets slap in the face ever?

There have been many players suggested as the best selection for the Jags at the 16th spot of this years draft.  I am not going to rehash that, and will leave the decision up to the very qualified Gene Smith and his staff, but the irony of one of the choices just makes me smile.

Big Cat Country The Jaguars and a new Mayor

Living in Georgia, and not in Jacksonville, there is little if anything that i could do about it, but do any of the current candidates for Mayor have any pluses or minuses for them in terms of the Jaguars?

Big Cat Country While watching Lagevision last night.....

While watching the CBS Jaguars show last night, Jeff Lageman discussed some of the defensive break downs that lead to the successful running attack the Texans had.  It concerned me, and made me question if this was a player or a coaching problem.

Big Cat Country Oh what a week....

In this week leading up to the biggest game in Jags regular season history, I have seen a few things that have really confused me.  I have also made some discoveries that have really taken some of the fun out of the week, at least for me.  And finally, I have seen a member of our team make an ill advised statement.

Big Cat Country 2 things that really bothered me about the Chiefs game.....

I am sure that these comments were discussed in other pieces on this site today, but I just can not force myself to read through all the fire Jack, fire Gene, and start Snoopy or Charlie Brown at QB against Dallas.  The two things really  bothered me yesterday put us in a bad situation, occurred on the same play, and directly led to a KC TD.

Big Cat Country BCC Pregame Get Together

This may have been posted, but I never saw if it was.  Did we ever decide when the BCC pregame get together was going to be and where?  The fact that we are 4 days away from the game against the Broncos makes me think it is not this game, but which one?  I seem to remember Indy getting a bunch of votes.  Maybe we could just have a meet and greet at Teal Town before a game at a specific time.  I also seem to remember something about Alfie bringing David Garrard, or something like that.  Just Kidding!!!!!!!!!

Big Cat Country Garrard has a Good Day at Camp!!!!

I know it sounds like a children's book title, but Vic has just posted some great news for our starting QB.  Here are a couple of the quotes that jumped out at me:

This is another plus for the Jags. Lets all hope he stays healthy!

Bored in the dead zone, I went hunting and came across this. Makes me feel even better about the draft (not that I felt bad), better about the D-line, and better about our upcoming season! Not to bad to have two of the top 10 rated draft picks on the same team!

Big Cat Country Pre-preseason schedule

I was wondering if someone in the know could post the dates and times for Jaguar events leading up to the scrimmage game on August 6th.  I know that some of the training camp practices are open, but not sure which ones.  Also, I got an e-mail that stated that I could, as a season ticket holder, print out extra-tickets for friends for the scrimmage game.  Does anyone know how many or how that works?  I know I can probably find all this out, but thought a published pre-preseason schedule might help other fans out too!

The NFL has shut down the Jags OTA's and has forced them to forfeit a week of there off season program....because OTA's were too intense.....hows that? How does this happen? Was it a player that blew the whistle on them?

Big Cat Country It may be too early for this......but.....

Does anyone have the preseason practice / camp schedule, and if so, are there any open fan days?  If this is available, where does someone find it?  I seem to remember there being open days for the Falcon's when we lived in north GA, and as much fun as the mini camp days were, thought it would be interesting.  I believe that knowing what a guy can do will not occur until the pads are on and the hitting starts.  Is it August yet?

Big Cat Country I need some help understanding....

the ticket meter on jaguars.com.  As we know, blackouts are prevented by selling out the general bowl, and we are making great progress towards that goal.  I am confused by something, and hope someone here can help me understand it better.  Lets look at the last two sets of numbers from the ticket meter.....

As of May 27, 2010 the meter read as follows:

35,524 Season Tickets Sold

2,360 Group/Single Game Tickets Sold per Game (avg. per game)

13,073 New Sales Needed to Fill General Bowl

As of June 3, 2010 the meter read as follows:

36,397 Season Tickets Sold

2,577 Group/Single Game Tickets Sold per Game (avg. per game)

11,983 New Sales Needed to Fill General Bowl

My question is how does the Group/Single Game Tickets Sold per Game (avg. per game) number keep going up?  Is it based on a percentage of sold season tickets?  I only ask because I don't want the push to slow down as we get closer due to people feeling that we have it in the bag.   Alfie, you have had some insight through your connections.  Can you shed any light on this subject?

Big Cat Country What about Big Cat Country teal colored game day t-shirts?

I have no idea how to pull this off, but maybe some of the editors, or some regulars to the site might know how to get this done.  Maybe Comcast could help out and put there logo on it too.  This might be a bad idea, or lead to some fun at the games.  It kind of goes along with the post yesterday where many listed their a/s/l!  It's just a thought, let me know what you think!

Big Cat Country Whats more important?

With all the posts recently about the ability of David Garrard to be our QB, and though the last vote showed that 62% of BCC viewers felt David was the man to lead the team next year (at least on opening day), I wonder if the best choice is to go after a DT / DE or if we should complete the build up of the o-line.  I feel David is plenty good of a QB if he works on his mental preparation and we improve the protection he receives.  You may or may not agree, but any QB will benefit from an improved front line.

Bred Meester is 33, and has played in the NFL 10 seasons.  More than one person has suggested that his playing days are nearing an end if not over, and there is no doubt that the position of center is very important.  The questions I pose to you is do we go after Maurkice Pouncy from Florida with our 10th round pick.

Here are my reasons why I think this may not be a bad decision:

1.  We have added some veterans to the D-line with the re-sign of Hayward and the addition of Kampman.  I know neither is a for sure deal, but none the less, they are ours for now.

2.  We have added a new D-line coach in Cullen, and he, in my opinion will help, along with the veterans, to bring Harvey and Groves along much better than the system in the past.

3.  Meester has great experience, and would be a great mentor to Pouncy, who ESPN said this morning claimed would be the first of this Florida group entering the draft to make the Pro Bowl.

4.  There is a strong following in J'ville of Gator fans, and though Pouncy is not the celebrity that Tebow is, maybe it will appease some of the the U of F folks, and unlike Tebow, I think Pouncy would actually help this team right away.

5.  We have one of the best RBs in the league in MJD, and if we give him plenty of holes, he will make the most of them.

I know the theory of BAP, and maybe there are other centers we can catch later in the draft or through other means, but no team is going to be successful without good lines on both sides of the ball.  I am encouraged with the steps the Jags have taken so far on defense in this off season, and merely suggest that this step for the o-line might be a good one.

Big Cat Country Jags still well in the hunt!

I was at the game yesterday, and I agree that we played hard, but came up short.  I think we should have won the game, but we did not.  The Jags did not implode, they lost, but here is some food for thought on the remaining season.  There are 7 teams left in the hunt for the final wild card spot.  They are Jags, Dolphins, Jets, Ravens, Steelers, Titans and Texans.  The Ravens look to be in the best spot, but due to the Jags conference record, Jacksonville looks good!

Lets look at each teams remaining season:

Jags:  In reality, I think the only game we can really count on for a win is the Browns (and nothing is a given in the NFL).  If that is the case, Jags end up 8-8 (7-5 in conference).

Dolphins:  They face the Titans, Texans, and Steelers.  It is not hard to see them only winning one of these three, but I am not sure which one.  They could also easily loose all three.  The important point is that if the Jags have the same number of overall wins as the Dolphins, we get the spot due to conference records.  At present, the Dolphin conference record is 5-4, one game behind the Jags.

Jets:  I look at the Jets situation as very similar to ours.  They face the Falcons, Colts, and Cincinnati.  The Falcons look like their best chance.  That would put them at 8-8, just like the Jags, but with a conference record of 5-7.  The Jags would get the playoff spot.

Ravens:  The Ravens face the Bears, Steelers, and Raiders.  I think the Steelers will get revenge, and who knows about the Bears, but the Ravens are favored in that game.  Oakland has been a surprise to big teams, and the game is in Oakland, so who knows. If the Ravens finish with the same record as the Jags, we have the better conference record.  Go Bears, Steelers and Raiders!

Steelers:  They are a game behind the Jags, but we need them to beet the Ravens and Dolphins in the event the Dolphins beat either the Titans or Texans.  The best conference record the Steelers can achieve is 6-6.  The Jags 7-5 would surpass this.  Once again, same overall record, and the Jags get in.

Titans:  Tennessee is also a game behind the Jags, They would have to have the better record as their conference record can not be better than the jags, no matter what happens.  We need them to beat Miami next week, and then fall to either the Chargers or Seattle.  Go Titans in week 15, and Chargers in Week 16!

Texans:  Also games behind the Jags, the Texans face the Rams, Dolphins, and New England.  Houston beating the Dolphins helps us, and you have to believe they will beat the Rams.  That would make them 8-8, same record as the Jags, but we have them covered if our records are the same.  Go Patriots in Week 17!

So, to recap this, if any of these 7 teams end up with the same record as the Jags, the Jags get the playoff spot based on the better conference record.  If we win out, we are in.  That is a tough road, but looking at the remaining schedules, it is unlikely that at 9-7 we are not in, and it is even possible that at 8-8 we get in with some help.  I know I am being very optimistic, but not unrealistic.  We are still well in the thick of it folks!

Big Cat Country Mike and MIke in the Morning

Mike Green and Mike Golic were discussing if it will take 9 or 10 wins to get the last wild card spot for the AFC.  They discussed it back and forth, Green thinking it will take 10 and Golic thinking it will take 9.  They then went through 4 games left for the Broncos, Jags, and the remaining 6 - 6 teams.
It was Golic's comments that did not sit well with me.  When discussing the remainder of the Jags games, it sounded like he implied that they would not win but one of the remaining games.  Later in the show, he recanted a bit by saying that the Jags were in a better spot than the 6 - 6 teams as there is a reason teams are 6 - 6.
I don't see any reason this team can't take 3 or even 4 of the remaining games, though no game in the NFL is a given, as the Raiders are reminding everyone of.  The Jags have a golden opportunity to surprise a whole lot of folks around the league with there under the radar position.  Lets get out and support these guys on Sunday, and carry it through next Thursday (if you are able).  We control our own destiny, and that’s a great place to be, even if the road ahead is tough.  Just my opinion.......
