2012 NFL Ultimate Mock Draft
I'm pleasantly surprised that Jimmy Graham and not Gronkowski was drafted in the first round
4. Cleveland Browns – Drew Brees, QB: Just what Saints fans need: More bad news. Fortunately, this is of the hypothetical variety, but given Brees' contentious contract situation, the thought of the franchise's locker-room leader not being in the fold hits a little close to home. In this case, after drafting the exceptionally productive passer, Browns owner Randy Lerner is happy to fork over a massive contract; considering that he paid team president Mike Holmgren a reported $50 million to come to Cleveland in December 2009, a nine-figure deal for Brees seems like a relative bargain.
27. New Orleans Saints – Ray Rice, RB: With soon-to-be-suspended general manager Mickey Loomis presiding over the team's War Room – and banished coach Sean Payton popping in via hologram, Tupac-style – the Saints give their fan base a reason to smile. Rice is a resplendent runner who'd make an already prolific offense even tougher to contain, despite the fact that Payton won't be around to run it in 2012. One slight snag: Rice, like Brees, is seeking a long-term deal and has yet to sign his franchise tender. On a positive note, he ought to be able to cash in on a red beans and Rice endorsement from one of NOLA's many awesome eateries.
28. Green Bay Packers – Jimmy Graham, TE: Yeah, I know: general manager Ted Thompson needs a quarterback to replace Rodgers. No, Brett Favre, that phone won't be ringing … and no, Thompson isn't drafting Jay Cutler, Matt Ryan, Josh Freeman or any other signal-caller. Instead, he sticks to his best-player-available philosophy and takes Graham, who blossomed into a star during his second season in New Orleans. Back in the Saints' War Room, the Payton hologram just removed his shirt in disgust.
Saints, Brees within $2M/yr on long term contract
According to ESPN's John Clayton, the Saints and Drew Brees are now within $2 million per year of each other on a long-term contract.
The latest reports had the sides $5 million per year apart, so there's apparently been tangible progress in April. "You get the feeling they'll get something done," Clayton said. "It's just going to be weeks, a couple of days, could take them a month. But overall, they've moved closer, not in the last couple of weeks, but at least a couple of weeks ago."
The New Orleans ?
Just putting a link over here for a naming the Hornets post I put over at "At The Hive"
The New Orleans ____?____
I've seen suggestions all over the internet for new names for the Hornets. Tom Benson says he is definitely going to change the name, so why not get an official thread going on the subject. I can put up a poll if we get a few options...so what are you waiting for? Comment away! They can be serious or funny...best name will be emailed to the Hornets organization by me! (don't know what that will do...but hey we can try)
We could only hope...
Sedrick Ellis could be candidate for release #6milliondollars
Due more than $6 million between salary and bonuses, the New Orleans Times-Picayune believes Saints DT Sedrick Ellis is a candidate for release.
Going into the final year of his rookie deal, the former No. 7 pick notched just 29 tackles and 0.5 sacks last season despite playing 723 snaps. However, the Times-Picayune believes the Saints will likely give Ellis one more chance to prove himself under new DC Steve Spagnuolo. He could still be asked to take a pay-cut.
Free Payton Protest?
I've been seeing things on facebook, etc talking about supporting Sean Payton and the Saints in all this mess...but it's so unorganized. I've seen about 5 different dates that everyone should go to champions square or whatever and wear black and gold in support of SP...why don't we get a real date(s) set? I like the idea of doing it from March 31st til April 2nd (during the final four) it would get media attention and show how much we support out team! Just start spreading the word on Facebook to be at Champions Square on the 31st with your shirts/jerseys, signs, pitchforks , etc at 4:00 PM!
Carl Nicks Twitter:
@bigbrickhouse77: Y'all know I keep it real on this. My agent told me the saints made me an offer and it is respectable...
Pick Your Poison
It's inevitable the New Orleans Saints will be handed down punishment from the NFL, as well as other organizations and players. So I've got 2 questions for ya:
1. What would you choose for the punishment(s)?
2. What do you think the punishment(s) will be?
For the first one, try to keep it somewhat unbiased, but feel free to put whatever you want.
AND just to keep this a little lighter...
Pick your poison (adult beverage) for dealing with this mess?
Drew Brees comments to WWL Radio about franchise tender
"I texted Drew today with the question, "It is being reported that you have expressed that you will not sign your franchise tender. Is that true?" Drew's direct response: "I am reserving all comments and discussions with the Saints directly."
Meanwhile, I also talked today to a person in the Drew Brees camp. Despite some online reports that Brees is "livid" about the franchise tag, that person says Drew still maintains optimism to work out a long-term deal with the Saints. I was told by that person that Brees will go through the process of the tag and hopes to sign a new deal before July 15th."

Too soon?
Is it too soon to start talking about the draft? Here's a couple questions, also feel free to insert your own:
1. Who would you like to see us take with the 59th (?) pick in the draft?
2. Do you think we'll trade up/down?
3. If the Saints had the number 1 pick in the draft what would you do with it?
It sucks that we don't have a first rounder, I look forward the draft because of it.
Merry Christmas CSC!

Vote for the trades!
Simple poll and discussion:
Which trade did you like better? The Hornets/Lakers/Rockets trade or the Hornets/Clippers?
I like that we got a 1st rounder and Gordon in the clippers trade, but that first one we would have got so much more talent right now and had a chance for the playoffs this year, but I guess when you lose Paul and West...you go into rebuilding mode for the most part.
VOTE!

Saints agreed to terms with TE John Gilmore
The nine-year veteran was cut by the Steelers Saturday. He'll see time in two-tight end sets as a blocking specialist in New Orleans. Gilmore has never caught more than 15 passes in a season.
Madden 12 Open Thread
This can serve as an "Open Thread" for all talk about Madden 12. It can be gripes, moans, groans whatever...It would be cool if we got an online franchise going with our CSC group as long as everyone's active. Of course we'd have to make a separate leagues for PS3 and 360 guys. I'm willing to start the PS3 one if we get enough people.
