Quick Stats Comparison: Beesball Regional
Given our utterly inspiring run to the ACC championship this weekend, I figured I'd do a quick write-up of our chances in the Gainesville regional. As I see it, our best chance of getting into a super regional is beating College of Charleston Twice. Explanation follows.
For those of you who don't know...

Congratulations to Your 2012 ACC Baseball Champions, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets!
Conference Re-A...What's Going On?
Ahoy, FTRS crew!
Long and far away have I been, fighten the dread pirates known first as finals and then as "post-finals apathy!" But now I am back from my long portage, and boy has the mainland changed since I've been away! And now its time to put this tired sailing metaphor to bed and move on to the hotbutton issue of the day: Conference Re-A-Freaking-Lignment!
First Recruit on the Board: Travis Custis
We got one! RB Travis Custis out of Lovejoy HS in Hampton, GA comes in at 6'0" and 212, almost the perfect size for a B-Back (Jon Dwyer came in at 5'11" 230). His high school may sound familiar because its where TC22 came from! Conveniently for us, Travis has already broken every record set by Deuce in his time there. He also earned offensive player of the year honors for class 4A. I suppose those are good signs! Mr. Custis could stand to use a little muscle, but he sure couldn't stand to lose any speed:
Look at that beautiful running style, shifty yet bursty, powerful yet agile. He can clearly run every which way on the field, which is critical for escaping the pile-up if things go wrong in the trenches. He reminds me of a certain someone with initials J.D, and its not Jack Daniels. This kid looks to be the prototypical B-Back, which is something we've certainly been lacking as of late. He looks to be scare the pants off any defense not watching the dive closely. Its just a shame he's not coming this year so we couldn't have a tag team of him and Orwin! Its good though to see a kid commit so early, especially such a good prospect (one of the top in the state for 2013), but his 2.9 GPA scares me a little. Hopefully he doesn't use this commitment as an excuse to slack off and not meet admission requirements. It sure doesn't seem like he lacks the work ethic though, as his coaches are quoted as saying "no one's going to outwork him in the locker room." Welcome to the flats Travis, we sure are glad to have ya!
FTRS Tailgate for the Cure (To Sobriety)!
If you want it to be, that is! Either JohnHeisman or Joey floated the idea a few weeks ago of tailgating for the spring game, and I was hoping to gauge site interest on the idea. the idea is that us student-types (I'm looking at you, tdot6 and Winfield's little brother) that are already on campus and not strictly obligated per se to be anywhere during the daytime would set up around noon and then anyone who wanted to come out after that could come on down. If we can get enough interest, we can get a keg and some boston butts or something. So what say you, FTRS'ers? Help us end this horrid condition that afflicts upwards of 99% of people?
Rudimentary Statistical Analysis: Not This Week
Alas, due to the unparalleled beauty of having three tests in a week, there is not article today. But! There is a video. So have at that, my good sirs/sirettes.
Man Bracketology: The Final Four
You finally don't have to listen to Joey and I talk anymore! Make sure you watch till the very end, I've included a special treat!
Man Bracketology: Things Men Love Region
The saga continues as we break down in a four-letter sports network fashion which manly thing is the manliest thing.
Its Finally Here: FTRS Man Bracketology
What the hell is it, you ask? Find out for yourself!
Rudimentary Statistical Analysis: Beesball v. Castrated Turkeys
Howdy everyone! Its that time of week again, where I take you on an adventure around the diamond and land you in the middle of math-ville! But first, I want to tell you about two things: our first full length video premiers tomorrow! That's right, you get me and Joey making fools of ourselves! On video! You couldn't ask for more! Secondly, something I can't remember right now.
Ok, now let's get into it. Kudos again to Gregg Hines for somehow being bored enough while designing airplanes to take care of the record-keeping.
Rudimentary Statistical Analysis: Your Weekly Beesball Round-Up
Hey everyone! Nate here to bring you your hopefully-weekly beesball all-in-one piece! Here, we'll review the midweek game and preview the weekend's upcoming series. This being baseball, there will be stats involved, and I want to give a big shout-out to my buddy Gregg Hines for putting these numbers together for me (Lord knows I'm too stupid to do it). Keep in mind these are no way official numbers, but they should be 99% accurate. Off we go!
Looking (Too far) Ahead: The Defensive Class of 2013
Our biggest needs on defense (judging by the number of offers we have out right now) will be addressing depth at NT and LB. We shored up the DE position mightily this year, but we're going to need someone to play between Kallon and Chungong (or Gotsis or Gamble or Denzel McCoy or...you get the idea) in 2013. We've offered a good number of DTs, and all currently have offers from a plethora of schools including the Roll Tahdes and the Dwags of the world. NTs are few and far between, so this makes sense. One kid that's particularly impressive is Michael Hill out of Pendleton, SC. This young man comes in at 6'3", 315 and is an extraordinary physical specimen. Check out his block-shedding abilities:
Michael Hill (two games from junior year) (via 247SportsStudio)
Look at how much fun he's having! Its like us if we were designing something or not talking to women! This kid is a pipe dream though, considering his size. Anyhow, we've offered 3 other NTs, so we'll keep a close eye on those.
Looking (too far) Ahead: The Offensive Class of 2013
As most of you are well aware, Georgia Tech recently had its junior day. Here now to cover the class of 2013 are: writings I stole from Joey and some stuff I wrote (see if you can guess where the transition is)! After the jump, we'll begin our obsession and try to pick out who will be the next Dalvin Tomlinson so we know who our ire will be directed toward next year. My money's on Joey. Don't ask me how he'll get recruited, maybe he'll fail out of tech and go back to Lawerenceville for a super senior year!
Getting to Know Our New Recruits: DB Lynn Griffin
via l.yimg.com
Recruit numero 13 that we're going to cover is a young man from my native Florida, Lynn Griffin. Of all the highlight videos we've watched over this recruiting period, this one was certainly my favorite. This guy has got speed, hes got strength, he's got vision, and he is a BALL. HAWK. He is always looking for the pigskin, whether it be coming in from behind to break up a play or reading the screen, intercepting it, and taking it to the house. He's also very versatile, and sets up at DB, OLB and DE in the video below. I particularly like his work at OLB, where he shows his excellent read skills and timing. He's rated 3-star, but we all know how super-accurate the star system is. Mr. Griffin had offers from UNC, Middle Tennessee, Wake, and Southern Miss; Miami (the real one) was showing interest. He committed in middle January, so he was a bit of a late bloomer on that front, but we got him and in the end that's all that matters. Take a look at this highlight video and it'll speak for itself to why this was such an important grab:
Lynn "LJ" Griffin 2012 Full Season Highlights (via ljgriffin21)
Did you see that shot in the beginning? The stuff of beauty, it is. He reminds me of Isiah Johnson in how quickly he runs and how he never gives up on his man (he could teach Isiah a thing about tackling, too)! I'm thinking we'd put him in as a CB since he's too tall at 6'3" to be a safety, but you never know what old Groh has up his sleeve. I'd also like him to play immediately, he certainly has the physical skill set for it. He might want to add a few pounds, but that's entirely possible over the course of the summer. Who knows, maybe he'll wind up at safety this year, but I only say that because he's so quick. Either way, its good to see this kid in the white and gold. Tear em up, Lynn!
beeeeesssssssballlllll!
Howdy everyone! as you may know, GT beesball opens up their season in 7 short days, and I'm here to give you a little preview of what hopefully is a championship season!
Get to Know the n00bs: Part Something of Something Else
Hey everybody!
Since I figured discussion of the new guys (and unrelated topics) has been beat to death, I figured I'd give ya'll more background info on the "little" fellers. This will be part one of a series, but the length of the series is indeterminate since the number of commits Joey or I cover in each post will be determined by how much time we have on our hands. I'll just wet your palette with the first one today.
The Big Board
Excluding any ladies in short dresses, unfortunately. Final commit list below; talk, comment, and generally be excited about these young men here. We'll have a full debriefing up tomorrow. Even more interesting material after the jump.

1/20 Recruiting Update
Hey all, your second-favorite From the Rumble Seat recruiting blogger here with an update from the flats. We've had a big recruiting week, landing 2 commits in the space of 5 days! The first kid we're going to discuss after the break is the young man that committed yesterday, Lynn Griffin, hailing from my native Florida.
Recruiting, Nate & Joey, and You
How ya'll doin?!
We're real excited to be here, Joey and I are, and hope to chronicle Georgia Tech recruiting for you as best we can. Hopefully we'll work out some kind of regular output format (especially once the offseason kicks into high gear) but for now during finals time we're just going to post sporadically. For my first post as an author, I'd like to discuss the entire concept of recruiting and how it got to the point where you need two guys to cover it for one (relatively) small engineering school.
I'll just leave this here...
Fun With Scenarios!
First of all, lets note this is purely hypothetical. I am not expecting this to happen, and in fact if you calculated the odds of this I'm sure they'd be so long it would make Ball State's odds against Alabama look big. That said, we're number 13 right now. Say we run the table (knock on virtual wood), and everybody above us loses one game. Do they let us into the MNC? They can't, no matter how much they want to, pit AL and LSU against each other as they will play each other during the regular season and only one of them can go to the essshhhh eeeee ceeeee champaingship game. So do you think they would let us in? I personally don't want to see it happen because either LSU or Rammer Jammer would eat us alive. I'd much rather go to either another BSC game (say, the sugar or fiesta) or the Chicken-Fil-A/Cotton bowl and have a chance at winning rather than getting trounced in the NC game.
I have a confession
I didn't watch the bowl game. In fact, I didn't watch much of the end of last season, save for the home games. I couldn't take the rejection and the general horribleness. To be perfectly honest, I think I just drank (with people at a party, don't worry :P ) instead. Does that make me a bad fan? Discuss.

What Would it Take to Get us to the BCS game and Fumble Totals
Personally, I think that it would take beating VT, UGA, and FSU, with FSU and UGA in the top 12 and VT in the top 20. What sayest thou(s)? And, since this is a two-part fanpost, after the break you'll find fumble total analysis from CPJ's teams to see if we'll improve, inspired by this comment by lil broey.
This Spring: A Sloppy Crapshoot or PJ Motivational Strategies?
Note: This is a fanshot written by our very own GTNate. Enjoy!
I don't know if any of you thought it, but from what I got out of CPJ this spring sucked. Hard. But then I got to thinking: what if he was trying to motivate the team? So, like any good Tech man, I tried to get scientific about it.
FINEBURN
seriously did I miss something or has this gentleman not made his way over to our humble corner of the interblogz to be properly meme'd (meme'd, v: to be made a meme out of. Man, that cat chasing a hobo over there really ought to be meme'd.
Let's Play the "How Much Better/Worse" Game!
So I'm from Orlando and my parents went to the universities of Idaho and Florida, so I didn't know anything about Tech football (or college football in general) before I came here in 2007. So old people, I pose a question now that the spring footballs are over and we have no football to care about for a few months: How much better/worse would last season have been if Chan Gailey was still the coach?! Go!
The Great Mid-Major Debate
So herein is posed the question: What to do if Boise/TCU/Utah/someone else from a "silly" conference is/are the only undefeateds left standing and then there's a bunch of one-loss powerhouses? Me, I say much like the dawgs, piss on 'em. Of all the arguments you can make FOR these teams, the one thing you can't escape is that they play the teams that everyone else uses to pad their schedules one or two games out of the year, for MOST of the year. So: debate, go!
As you may be able to tell from you time at tech/in college, I am currently avoiding doing ECE2040 Homework. I envy you folk who went to school before the internet, your GPAs must have been infinitely higher :P
Also, in the interest of full disclosure, my cousin in Idaho is an OBNOXIOUS Boise fan. We're talking about taking SEC redneckery to whole new level here.
So let's keep it real.....
I want to preface this by saying that this is in no way a negative post. I have every confidence that the Jackets will do well this season (I think at worst we'll go 8-4, and that's with some pretty bad luck), and I am and always will be a die-hard fan that will pull for this team no matter what. This post is meant merely to try and see what everyone's expectations are and see where everyone's areas of concern are. Mine follow....
WR Analysis
Barrel of Rum gives a great analysis of the WR situation.....boy if they and FTRS combined it would be the most unstoppable blagging force on the internet.
