I'm a full-time armchair manager of Real Madrid, and a recent graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. I grew up watching Madrid play at the Bernabéu, and some of my earliest memories are of celebrating in or around the Cibeles after we won the 1995 Liga and the 1996 Champions.

I grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, so I love the Packers, and the Badgers with all my heart; I lived in Boston for a year in 1996, so naturally I love the Yankees and the Knicks.

My life ambition is to be yelled at by Jorge Valdano during a press conference for asking him an uncomfortable question, and then being removed forcibly by security. (I did meet Valdano when I lived in Madrid, but never got to say anything questionable to him because I was too afraid of being kicked in the face. True story.)

I run SBN's Real Madrid CF blog Managing Madrid, and spend most of my free time fantasizing about Real Madrid's starting 11, tactics, and Mourinho's suits. I also am in charge of SBNation.com/soccer 's Spain section. Woo!

Villarreal Relegated; Here's My Eulogy

I loved Villarreal's brand of football during the mid-2000's, and they remain one of my favorite sides to watch as a neutral. They were relegated on Sunday, so I figured I'd give them a respectful send-off. Enjoy.

So yeah, there has been some trolling around here recently, and while I tend to allow some measure of funny banter to continue on the site unimpeded, some of this has crossed the line. I'm writing this to remind you all (the awesome MM community) that I have your back. People can come and try to troll us and we can have some fun with that, but as soon as there are insults and hostility--basically, as soon as someone makes this not a fun place to come and hang out by insulting you, our wonderful readers, writers, and community at large--then they're going to be kicked off. No questions. If you ever feel like someone is being obnoxious, or making you feel like this isn't a place you want to come (because that's our ultimate goal), then you let me know immediately. I'll handle it. Cheers, and HALA MADRID!

La Liga 2012, Week 37: Judgment Day Awaits Bottom, Top Of Table

MLS (And Sports In General) Needs Women...So Screw You, Simon Borg)

I'm a bit late to the MLS scene. I've been longing for competitive soccer to come to the USA for a long time now, and at first I was a little wary of the MLS. BUt I'm a convert--after watching some the games in Portland, Seattle, and company, I realized that there isn't only a fantastics market here, there's also a highly-motivated fanbase that's desperate to love our awesome sport. I fell in love with the MLS partly out of pride that my country had produced some fantastic soccer fans, and partly because I got to witness and speak to these people first hand. All of this history feeds into what I'm about to tell you: MLS author Simon Borg made some incredibly sexist comments on a soccer podcast. He disparaged female MLS fans, belittled women generally, and embodied the classic arrogance and sexism of the sporting establishment. It was disgusting. MLS, and sports in general, shouldn't accept this. Sports are not the unique domain of men, no matter how much some people want them to be. Women should not be patronized, or criticized because of some misogynistic notion that being a passionate fan is only acceptable if you're a man. Or that being passionate somehow makes women less desirable as partners for males (or that anyone freaking cares about that). So, take this time to inform yourself about this--read this awesome article from Alicia over at SBNation's ChivasUSA blog The Goat Parade. And don't stand for this kind of thing when you see it, either.
