Bleeding Green Nation Name your most depressing first round scenarios...

Im curious who's most depressing scenario will actually come tru tomorrow. The eagles are big on not tipping their hat EVER on who they are going to draft so we are all probably bound to be disappointed. Here is my MOST depressing scenario

Number 15 pick comes up---

Cox Still on the board, Copies still on the board, Michael Floyd still on the board.

Who do the Eagles select ?

No one. They trade down to the mid 20's and pick up another 4th round pick(of which they pick a high motor DE who ultimately can't crack the rotation). The team they trade down with picks Floyd who turns out to be another Fitzgerald and the team after that picks Cox who is another Warren Sapp pre-bankruptcy.

Liberty Ballers Jrue vs Turner as PG. Who ya got ?

Jrue seems like he has all the athletic skills to be a very good PG in this league but he is on the timid side, doesn't seem to like contact and seems at times to go into a total offensive shell. He's a decent defender but if his man gets the best of him he seems to get down on himself. I don't see how we can have a PG who averages 4 assists per game and when he scores a lot involves no one.

Turner on the other hand is far more aggressive, doesn't mind the contact and has a lot of confidence when he dominates the ball. He may not have the same level of athleticism as Jrue but he seems to have a better mindset to take over games AND involve others. I think I would like to see Turner run the point and maybe let Jrue be more of a spot up shooter(he certainly has a better shot than turner, when he takes em).

The team is playing well below average for a few months now, cant hurt to try something different.

Bleeding Green Nation We don't win because we don't have a clutch QB...period.

Seeing the Giants, Saints,Packers, Steelers and Saints dominate in the super bowl makes me think more than ever the Eagles aren't going to ever win it all until we get a clutch QB who can CONSISTENTLY drive you down the field when the games on the line. We have not had that player for the last 20 years. Cunningham, nope. Mcnabb, when the game was tightest he generally didnt get it done. Vick has been in a really tight playoff situation once, and he choked by throwing a pick when he had time on the clock and could have easily dumped it down to Lesean Mccoy.
I think we all get caught up with Vick because he looks like he wants to win and has a lot of amazing physical skills but hasnt shown he could consistently produce game winning drives(and he has by far the most weapons that ANY eagles QB has ever had). Its a mental position and all the guys on the teams I mentioned above have that "clutch" bone in their body. I'm not sure any Eagles QB ever has. Not in the last 20 years at least. Its like the Sixers with Iguodola--he has amazing physical skill but when the games on the line hes just not that guy. Hopefully we find gold and draft "someone" who has "it" . Id like to see a championship at some point during my life.

Bleeding Green Nation The Eagles case to retain Juan Castillo...

Let me say first off. I dont want Juan Castillo on our sidelines next year unless its as the O line coach if Mudd re-retires.

I dont feel he can coach at the NFL level as a Defensive Coordinator. I dont think he makes adjustments quickly enough and his players dont seem to respond on a consistent basis. Not to mention playing Nnamdi at zone for a lot of the season is inexcuseable.
For all of you who agree with me, the worst has started to happen. Defense was great against the dolphins. Against the jets---they could also be great because Mark Sanchez blows. Cowboys ? Tony Romo, nuff said.

And then the redskins...Rex Grossman---he could easily make our secondary look like pro bowlers when we all know the truth.

I can totally see the Eagles defense playing well these last four games and the Eagles will retain Juan Castillo--dooming us again for next year, and many years to come.
I can just hear it now...Andy at the podium. "Juan struggled early due to the lack of training camp but he really started to put it together at the end of the season". Nevermind that they are playing shitty quarterbacks who can make any defense look good. I hope it doesnt happen, I hope someone shreds this Eagles defense so they can be reminded that they NEED to make a change at the very least at defensive coordinator.

Bleeding Green Nation How to handle rest of Season...

Do not let Vince Young play another snap. Hes awful, and really shouldnt be in the league. Kafka if Vick gets hurt again.

Bench Nate Allen. Either hes hurt or just cant play. Get Jarrett some experience and see if he can be the hard hitting safety we havent had since #20

Get Dion Lewis some snaps---maybe 10-15 a game. No point in burning shady out for a lost year.

Sit Nnamdi unles hes 100% and lets see what Marsh can do.

Sit Desean and let Steve Smith play extensively to see if he can actually be a good number 2 for us next year.

Seasons lost--time to start seeing who we have going forward while solidifying our draft status. Im hoping the Eagles finish 4-12.

Bleeding Green Nation What will you do NOW on Sundays ?

Now that the seasons pretty much over for the Eagles--what do you do now ?

Do you still spend your Sundays watching football, do you still devote 3-4 hours to watching the Eagles---or do you write off football for the year altogether and not watch because the Eagles are out of it ?

I know for me---I will DVR a few games, including the Eagles--but spend my time going out, seeing friends/family, doing house projects etc.

I will still watch the games on DVR but certainly wont plan around them or have any type of gatherings centered around the Eagles games. I still support the team but recognize this is a lost year.

Bleeding Green Nation 2011 Eagles--the joke of the league.

Man after we signed Naamdi  I dont think I could have ever been happier as an Eagles fan in the offseason.  We were a few plays away from beating the world champion packers and we signed an all pro free agent to cover ALL of our defensive weaknesses(nnamdi, babin, Jenkins). So I thought.

If you would have told me the Eagles would go 4-12 or 5 -11 I would have laughed heartily at you and just figured you were a douchebag Giant or Cowboy fan. But that's the reality folks. Not only are we having a bad year this year, the future doesnt look particularly bright either.  Vick only has a few years left and he doesnt look nearly as good as he did last year, be realistic. There is no more Kolb, and Vince Young and Kafka have looked horrible. Our superstar wide receiving core is ...not.  I can only imagine how many of the opposing teams locker rooms laugh their asses off at the "dream team".

Beyond the players though, all of the coaching staff should probably be let go. Will it happen, probably not. We will hear the same bullshit as ever (no training camp, new players, new scheme, etc.)

Whatever...Ill still loosely pay attention to this team, but after today I will not dedicate another 3 hours of my life getting geared up for any of their games, because at this point, none of them matter, not this year. Would have been nice for the Giant game to have SOME juice next week but all we can do is play spoilers now. But I fully expect them to be doormats at this point. Welcome to your 2011 Philadelphia Eagles, one of the five worst teams in the league.

Bleeding Green Nation Eagles remaining games...predict their record. I'll start..

Barring injuries here is how I see the season playing out...

Cardinals--definite win. No Kolb and the Cardinals aren't that good, BUT--dont expect it to be too easy. Eagles will play down to the level of their competition as they always do but still win.

Giants--With the season on the line. Eagles pick up a win. Eagles match up well with the Giants. At 5-5 hope is alive !

Patriots--A close close game, but ultimately the Pats win it. Just like the super bowl. Final score is close, but you never actually feel the Eagles will truly win. And they dont. 5-6...all the players swear they will run the table.

Seahawks--Eagles bounce back with a close road win and play with a "WTF are we doing below .500 ?!?"  intensity.

Dolphins--Eagles win, as the Dolphins are sucking like old skool Jenna Jameson for luck. 7-6 !

Jets -- At  7-6 the Eagles have a slight glimmer of hope for the division but the ghost of Plaxico returns and the eagles lose a close one. Loud booing heard at the end of this game. Reid looks like hes on the verge of a nervous breakdown at the press conference as Misanelli starts off the questioning asking why they only ran the ball 6 times...

Cowboys--Cowboys are out of it as well, but they decide to avenge their earlier loss,

Skins--Guys at this point are playing for contracts, sack numbers, etc. They take down the skins easily because hey, its the skins.

Predicted finish---8-8.

Andy stays on as head coach. Castillo is fired. Jeff Fisher returns to Philly as the DC.  Fan base gets geared up for 2012 super bowl run, minus Desean Jackson who signs with the Seahawks for a monster deal.

Bleeding Green Nation Will Desean Jackson be an Eagle next year ?

After watching last nights disaster of a game, I would have to say no. Looking at the year as a whole, Jackson (based on his own lofty standards) has been mediocre at best. Maybe the stats dont totally support this but he has not been clutch and hes dropped way too many easy balls. We have all watched every game and hes not the same player. His returns have been awful as well.  http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/11283/desean-jackson

I am sure his contract is affecting him, I cant say I blame him but its pretty obvious the Eagles are not signing him to a big money deal. And his play this year doesnt warrant it either.  Hes been great at off the field stuff, has mass appeal commercially, but on the field he just hasnt gotten it done like he has in the past.

Not sure where the team goes from here--hard to imagine him not on the Eagles but unless he gets paid I dont see him being here, and Im not so sure the Eagles can't find a better option via trade or thru the draft.  Will be interesting to see what Maclin can do by himself, opposite Riley Cooper or Steve Smith. (assuming Steve Smith can even play on the outside)

Bleeding Green Nation Goodbye Boom or Bust Offense

After watching the last two games I have to say I am THRILLED with the offensive game plans.

The screens, short passes, the utilization of the tight end and oh yeah--the running game !

It was AWESOME to see the Eagles pound it instead of constantly going for the long pass and getting Vick hammered. And by the way the "short" passes on THIS team are deadly because Vick is super accurate and with guys like Mccoy, Jackson, Avant, Maclin and Celek running for large chunks of yards after the catch. I'll take it over the 70 yard bombs anyday.  I am sure the defense would rather see a 7 minute drive over a 45 second one any day of the week.

I hope this inspires the coachig staff to recognize that they CAN beat a good team without bullshit trick plays, bullshit wildcat plays and just line up and beat the fuck out of the guy in front of you. The eagles have the personnel to get this done, hopefully this style of play will become the norm. Last years Redskins game on Mnf and the giants comeback game was great and all, but that doesnt work consistently and when it doesnt work its a disaster for the defense because its all quick 3 and outs. Run the ball, control the clock and the defense is fresh. This is the type of play that will win us playoff games, the "boom or bust", "chuck and duck" way NEVER works in the playoffs.

Bleeding Green Nation 5 Most disappointing Eagles

Bye week. Not a lot to write about so I figured I would get this rolling. 5 biggest disappointing Eagles this year for me, in no particular order. No coaches, as I am sure Castillo would be on everyones list.

1)Jaiquawn Jarrett --this guy was a beast in college. We thought we had the second coming of Dawkins. I dont think he has even seen a snap, and even worse, got beaten out by Jarred Page who is maybe the worst safety in the league.

2) Casey Matthews---MLB, OLB,ILB---wherever they put him he has flat out sucked. Consistently was the worst player on the field.

3) DRC - Pro bowl corner my ass. His effort has been really bad at times, and hes gotten toasted quite a few times as well. He has the tools, not sure if he has the motivation, for whatever reason.

4)Ronnie Brown--has done absolutely nothing, except maybe contribute strongly to losing the San Fran game.

5) Steve Smith -also has done virtually nothing.  One of the few opportunities he had he missed a pass that led to an ez interception in the Giant game.

Bleeding Green Nation Is Vick better than Mcnabb was in his prime here ?

Looking at Mcnabb the last 3 or 4 years leaves a bad taste in a lot of people mouth.  The last 2 Cowboy games especially.  But the bottom line is hes won a lot of games here and is probably the best Eagles QB ever.  His Eagle teams had a lot of great wins and put up a ton of points with some really shitty receivers. Unfortunately he and the Eagles came up short in big games, A LOT.

One can argue that despite Vick being over 30, he is in his prime. Hes still fast and is passing as good as ever.
No question Vick is a better player than Mcnabb is now, but what about 2004 Mcnabb ? That version of Mcnabb never turned the ball over and put up crazy numbers throwing the ball to a also in his prime Terrell Owens. Mcnabb was a lot tougher and more durable than Vick and made his own share of spectacular plays with his legs and arm.

Vick is a great playmaker right now.  Hes more accurate than Mcnabb ever was, but also more careless. When healthy he really is a human highlight film. Vick also is dead serious about the game. He never laughs on the sideline or in the huddle and seems to always take the blame on himself when the eagles lose. Something Mcnabb never did. He *seems* to thrive in the big moments, but realistically he did choke a little bit himself when he threw that totally unnecessary ball to riley cooper in the green bay playoff loss.

So its a tough call-----I think at this point I would have to go with Mcnabb. He did a lot more with a lot less. He did have TO one year but before that it was Westbrook, Chad Lewis---and who ?    Obviously if Vick wins a super bowl here that will change but as of right now I will choose Mcnabb. Warts and all.

Bleeding Green Nation Who's our best linebacker ?

Out of the 5--Foku, Chaney, Rolle, Mathews, Jordan

Looking over the game--I would have to say Rolle. Hes short but seems to always be around the ball. And theres always 3 or 4 plays per game where he makes a play. Plus he seems to play with an intensity the other guys lack. Foku has it--but hes a tad slow and a slow to react to plays at times. So if I were rating our linebackers...

1)Rolle

2)Fokou-physical, tough, but slow.

3)Chaney-IF he reads a play right he can bring the wood. But seems confused a lot and cant shed blocks.Big dropoff from last year.

4)Jordan--Decent but small.

5) Matthews--confused most of the time. Could be a bust--too early to tell. So far so bad.

Bleeding Green Nation Frank Gore said the Eagles quit....

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7071101

Pretty sad. This only goes to show you how far the Eagles have fallen. Can you imagine a guy from the other team saying this about the eagles in the 90's when we had a killer D ?

If something like this doesnt make these make these guys play with fire I dont know what will.  So far Ive seen Baldinger say the Eagles showed no effort half the time, Cullen jenkins saying the team was too happy at halftime, and now this. Man those guys better bring it hard on Sunday. I can accept a loss if everybody busts their ass and they still lose butcertainly not because of a lack of effort.

Bleeding Green Nation Bad team, bad front office. How else can you explain these actions?

Danny Watkins. Drafted---given the starting guard job without any competition based on what he did IN COLLEGE.

Kicker and Punter--Henry(sic) ---Given the starting job without any compettion based ON COLLEGE.

Casey Matthews---Named the starter based on what else...his college film.

Nnamdi----most dominating man to man corner in the game-----we play him in zone.

Stephen Tulloch---starting MLB in washburns system, 2nd leading tackler IN THE LEAGUE last year. Signed with detroit for 1.8 million guaranteed.

Juan Castillo---former defensive Coordinator of  a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM OVER 20 YEARS AGO

David Akers---Long time eagle great, stil at the top of his game. Let go---because he missed 2 fg's in the packer game ? Really ?   So were entrusting the season on a rookie kicker who is going to do so much better ? How did that work out yesterday ?

Bleeding Green Nation Juan Castillo--Season Killer.

6a0120a6dde087970b0148c845524b970c-800wi_medium

No man has done less with more.

I know its unrealistic to expect the Eagles to fire Juan Castillo 4 games into the season but what other options do we have ? Three straight games and three straight blown leads. Offense has sputtered at times but Eagles cant defend the run or the pass, and thats with a really good line and 3 all pro corners.

I know all of you hated Mcdermott, but shit with Trent Cole and NO ONE ELSE on the line and Dimitri fucking Patterson playing corner (comparable linebackers as well) we were one Riley Cooper catch away from beating the super bowl champion packers.

Juan Castillo I think does a decent job prepping the team and getting them fired up, and that lasts for about 2 quarters until the OC's on the other team make an adjustment or two. And then Juan just cant figure out what to do then. He does not have the ability to make in game adjustments. He is in wayyyy over his head and unfortunately it is going to kill the entire season. This team has the talent to be at least 3 and 1 at this point and were not because of Andy fucking Reid making a season killing decision to hire someone who wont question his authority or undermine him. Good job fat ass. Way to F up the whole season because you entrusted your defense with an O line coach who last coached defense in high school. If Jim Johnson had THIS defense it would be fucking lights t. Hell if Mcdermott had this defense it would be pretty damn good as well.

I guess its unheard of to fire the DC 4 games into the season. Its not like theres anyone available to take his spot.  What a colossal blunder.

Bleeding Green Nation Having my doubts about Vick...

I like Mike Vick as a player. He's very exciting and his highlights were always ones I wanted to watch when he was in Atlanta.  Some of the games he had last year--the redskins, the giants and a few other games were spectacular.
He seemed like he finally had put it all together.  Until later in the season...

Since the 2nd half of that Giant game last year he has been an above average runner and an Average QB.  The result ? 1-4.  And the lone win hes had has been against the Rams---who look to be one of the worst teams in the league.
Hes had his chance to put the team on his back time and time again and he flat out hasn't done it.  Turnovers, missed throws, holding the ball too long.   I think we can all agree Lesean Mccoy is one of the top 5 backs in the league. I'm not so sure he isn't top 3 if you factor in his pass catching ability.

The receivers ?  Arguably the top combination of receivers in the game.   Tight End is a little above average and I would say we have a damn good fullback.

The O line was not that bad today either. They are average at times for sure, but this isn't Chicago's O line.
If Brees or brady were on this team we would score 40 a game...every game.

So why are we not scoring points at will ?

I'm putting it on the play calling but also on Vick.  He takes too long to read the defenses and has a little bit of happy feet in the pocket. Not to mention he is not very accurate over the last 5 games. (2011 and 2010)

Everyone is so quick to rag on Mcnabb...but look what he did with what he had to work with and look at what Vick is doing with an NFL all pro team on offense.
I think many fell in love with Vick after that Washington game and later in the Giants fame last year. He hasn't come close to those performances since.  For all of the bullshit interviews I see with Vick on how much "better" hes gotten and just how much film he watches, I just don't see it on the field.  Vick looks the part, he seems serious in his interviews and I WANT to believe that hes this great intellectual who studies film like a madman in addition to being an elite athlete, but I only see very small glimpses of that. For the most part I just see the same thing I have always seen with Vick...a guy who makes awesome runs and spectacular highlights, but beyond that a pretty average QB.

Bleeding Green Nation After 3 games...this is a very average to below average team.

I love the Eagles but I hate to say it but this is a average to bad team.  The defense cant stop anyone for the whole game. Sacks are great, corners may be great but the safeties and linebackers are AWFUL.

The Eagles really could have lost this game 29-9. Against a team that was absolutely WRECKED by injuries.
Casey Matthews has done nothing, yet still plays. At least Rolle makes plays. I dont give a shit about Matthews psyche, he should be fucking benched.

Vick looked terrible for pretty much the whole game.   He needs to rest and take some time off, let his brain and hand heal.  Even if he didn't break his hand we weren't winning this game.

If not for Lesean Mccoy having a superhuman effort---I doubt the Eagles would have scored a single touchdown. And if thats what we need to rely on, a Sanders-esque effort from our 3rd year RB, then we have problems.

Desean Jackson does not look like a receiver we should dump 100 million or whatever into either. He dropped a very catchable ball and hasn't really done much in return game.

So we have a great pass rush, great corners on the outside, a fantastic running back and well above average receivers.  Everything else...meh.  I hope Mike Kafka can put it together. We will see.

Bleeding Green Nation Eagles can't cover the TE...scheme or players ?

We are going on what seems to be a decade of the Eagles not being able to cover the TE.

Is it because we have below average linebackers, or an ineffective sheme  to cover tight ends?

Are there ANY teams that have linebackers that cover the TE and shut them down ? Maybe the steelers ? The Packers

It just seems that whoever we get can't cover the TE. In key situations why couldnt we just put Nnamdi on Gonzales ? While DRC and Asante cover the wideouts.  I have to believe it is a flaw in our scheme. Yes our linebackers arent the greatest--but where is it written in stone a TE ALWAYS has to be covered by a LB. With all of these great coaching minds, Im just not seeing why they cant solve this problem after a decade.  I really tend to think its the scheme. Similar to WR's in chicago...prior to cutler going there all widouts who were previously good went there and generally under performed.

Bleeding Green Nation Better year: Mcnabb or Kolb ?

Kolb:  Gets to throw to Fitzgerald, Beanie wells and co in the backfield. Not a great Arizona defense. So So Oline.

Mcnabb: No sidney rice---one migraine plaqued wide receiver who is very good when he doesnt have Migraines.  Adrian beast Peterson...Good TE--decent O line and a pretty good defense(in comparison).

Im going with Mcnabb---he has a lot to prove and I think he has a decent year left in him.  Kolb I think at this point is the superior talent, but the team around him isnt as strong.

Bleeding Green Nation Interesting espn fan player rankings..

Not a hell of  lot going on NFL wise but I thought this was interesting on espn.com.

I checked out the WR and RB rankings. I would say the WR were pretty accurate(although I would take desean(currently 5th) over Roddy white but it seems that the nation has no idea just how good Lesean Mccoy IS.I had him as the number 3 back behind peterson and chris johnson)..

Vick is currently showing 7th---I had him ranked 5th(manning,rodgers,brady,brees).  Asantes 4th--I had him as 3rd behind revis and nnamdi.

Bleeding Green Nation Castillo move starting to make more sense.

I like what I heard from Castillo in the Missanelli interview.  I believe he will get the absolute best out of the guys on D, which our previous coaches didn't(Jason Babin anyone ?)

Castillo isn't the smoothest speaking guy but how many positional coaches and football players in general are ? Its X's and O's, not brain surgery.  Once we get some decent LB and secondary coaches to help with the intricacies of those positions, I think we will be OK. I know everyone would have wanted a schemer like capers or lebeau(or one of their proteges) but the eagles have a VERY young team overall. Picking up advanced schemes may just hurt these guys ability to just REACT. Instead of playing balls out they are thinking too much.  All of our draft picks come in as guys who can run, hit and jump on the same level as most of the peers in college. Some coaches are able to take that raw talent and make it into something great when they are young in their career and as they get older they pick up the mental part of the game. Castillo may not be the best at making on the fly game time decisions(nobody knows, yet), but if your players don't understand your scheme and aren't fundamentally sound I don't think it matters nearly as much.

Bleeding Green Nation All Pro Mccoy 12 carries ..really ?

I know as a fan I should grow to expect this but 12 friggin carries for mccoy ?  Even when we weren't behind Reid refuses to run the ball.  This team relies far too much on the QB to be superhuman in order to win playoff games.

It doesn't work against good teams.  It never has in the decade plus Reid has been here. Why can we see it and the coaching staff cant ? The one thing this green bay team couldn't do well was stop the run.  I love mccoy, hes by far the best RB of his class and may turn out to be as good or better than westbrook. Hes certainly better than westbrook was in his first few years.  Sometimes I wish we would get a OC in here who likes to run the ball and is a strong enough personality to tell Reid to go fuck himself when he tries to interfere with the offensive gameplan.

Bleeding Green Nation Five observations from game..

1. Pretty good protection for Vick most of day. He had a pretty average game and in this one he needed to be spectacular. And he wasnt. ---awful decision at end of game.  Cooper should have interfered in some way even if it drew a penalty.

2.For all the crap about the defense--they held the packers to 21 points and forced some turnovers. They played well enough to win this game.  The offense lost this game. I think its more on the coaching though...it seems woodson never blitzed and the coaches never adjusted.  Could childress be better or worse than morningweig ?

3.  We have had the same problem for what seems to be the last 5 years. No help for trent cole. 2 guys they got to help him(babin and clemons)  went on to have pro bowl seasons elsewhere. Time to get rid of the D line coach as he doesnt seem to recognize talent. (add in the fact that Dixon would have ridden the bench all year long if Bunkley didnt get hurt)

4. David Akers...WTF...hes been so good for so long its hard to kill him but seriously...WTF ?!?

5.  Eagles once again mamula'ed the season.  At least this time they got beat by the better team.

Bleeding Green Nation What if Vick chokes?

My gut feelings says the Eagles are going to win Sunday, provided that the offense is balanced. Or at least 60 pass-40 run. I sure hope so. But we all know the packers are a tough out and can easily expose all our weaknesses(Bad O line and bad secondary).

If the Eagles lose the game say 35-10 and Vick looks terrible in the game. Minnesota Viking game terrible. Donovan Mcnabb last two Dallas games as an Eagle terrible. Michael Vick atlanta falcon era terrible. On top of that he gets hurt...again, which would hypothetically make it the 3rd time this season.   What are we to make of that -- Do we still feel he is the QB of the future and its time to sign him to a long term deal and trade Kevin  ?

Do you feel safe trying to build around Vick for the next 5 years and let Kolb go ?
I would keep Kolb as an insurance policy either way and have them battle it out in camp. This will probably make both guys unhappy but much like last year the next QB decision is going to affect this franchise for at least the next 5 years.

Bleeding Green Nation Broderick Bunkley and Darryl Tapp

Bunkley:

It wasnt too long ago that this guy (along with Patterson) was considered a run stopping force. We all remember how he and patterson were largely credited with shutting down Brandon Jacobs and the giants running game in the playoffs a few years ago.  Since then...what the hell happened ? This guy looked like a beast coming out of college and we thought he would be the next Warren Sapp...or at least something close.  As it turns out its not our scheme that cant get pressure on the QB...it was HIM. Dixon has been a great player for us and has pushed the middle and been dominant against the run. AND hes gotten pressure.  Not sure if Bunkleys been injured for awhile or he just cant play anymore.

Darryl Tapp: Every time this guy is n there it seems like hes making plays. Is there any reason why HE cant be the answer opposite trent cole or does he only play on Coles side. If hes on coles side is it that hard to switch ? He seems like a really solid player who doesnt get enough reps.

BTW--Eagles 30 Pack 27

Bleeding Green Nation 10 Receivers I would rather have than Desean...

Caught the clip of Desean on the TOcho show. Hes got some balls to think he should "set the bar" for wide receivers in terms of his new contract.  He is not even top 10 in the league and I am convinced if he werent such a personality he wouldnt be noticed nearly as much.  Unless he is wide open he is pretty much useless. He rarely if ever makes the tough catch and is invisible far too much to be considered one of the top receivers in the league.
Tell me there isnt one giuy on this list who wouldnt be an absolute beast in our offense with Vick throwing them strikes... half of these guys are just as fast or almost as fast as Desean AND they make the tough catches and are red zone threats.  And this isnt even mentioning Dez bryant, Nicks or Greg jennings.

Bleeding Green Nation Players who aren't what we thought they were...

Dimitri Patterson-A couple weeks ago I thought the Eagles had a gem. Bigger and more physical than Ellis Hobbs I thought he was the real deal. Then teams saw game tape on him and we now realize why he was the 3rd or 4th string for 5 years.

Desean Jackson -Playmaker for sure.  But for every spectacular game/play he has he has just as many total disappearances. Not just for a few plays but for a entire game. If he had a more reserved personality like Maclin he wouldn't get all the good press he does.  Similar to the old Mcnabb in the sense that he will make the sportscenter highlight reel every monday but you never get to see how teams easily  shut him out of games and how he takes plays off.

Brent Celek- Yes he has stayed into block but he has wayyy too many drops and is not even half of what he was in the passing game last year.

Juqua Parker--on fire in the beginning of the year, since then not a whole lot. Same story different year. Another reason why they felt the need to draft Graham.

Brandon Graham-jury is still out but to be honest he hasn't done much. Great pre-season, shitty regular season  Ill give him a semi-pass because hes a rookie but the 13th pick of the draft should have given more.

Mike Mcglynn: Another one we thought would be a find--but game tape has exposed him as well.

Chad Hall: Looked like a Dave Meggett type in training camp----after seeing him for a few games I cant help but  wonder why exactly he is on this team.

Eagles we let get away...

Jason Babin- this deserves mention. The guy has 12 sacks I think and is a beast. A shame the coaches couldn't get that out of him here.  Then we wouldn't have had to waste a pick on a DE.

Bleeding Green Nation Will Eagles ever win it all with Reid as head coach ?

I love the eagles. I have for the last two decades. Every year it seems under the Reid era we have one of these terrible losses that comes back to haunt us.  Last nights game WAS that loss. The eagles in all likelyhood would have gotten the number two seed if they could have just beaten 2 teams with their 3rd string quarterbacks.
Poor preparation, poor adjustments, inexplicable pass to run ratio(80/20 ???) lost that game for us.

The eagles on the offensive side of the ball have elite talent. Good enough to score points on ANYONE.  They COULD have run the ball if the plays were called, they COULD have max protected Vick and let the receivers make plays---did they ?

nope

Vikings blitzed almost every play it seems and Reid didnt adjust.  Vick is great--but no QB can win in that situation except maybe Peyton Manning. And Vick isnt as good as manning and he never will be(no one else is either as Manning is arguably the greatest QB of all time)

The only reason we are not 6-10 is because of Michael Vick. We have won DESPITE Reids shitty coaching, his poor clock management and his inexcusable reliance on the pass against better judgment. Lets be honest--we should have lost the Giants game. Vick was superman in that game(as Donovan has been many games in the reid era) but with more logical coaching we wouldnt have needed that.  This is the NFL and teams can gameplan to stop the pass, ANY team---its up to the Eagles coaching staff to adjust on the fly.  They cant do it, we have seen it time and time again.  We consistently see the Eagles year after year get beat by inferior teams in key spots.  All the NFC championship games we were favored except for the Rams.  Some of those losses were Mcnabb but if we werent  passing on every down he would have maybe had a better chance to make some plays.

Its not like the Eagles CANT run the ball--remember the Dallas game ? Say what you wil but Dallas has some pretty damn good defensive personnel and the Eagles ran the ball 9 straight times when the cowboys were EXPECTING it and they could not stop them.

But Reid wants to win it HIS way by passing every down.   Seems to me hes just too stupid  to think on the fly and adjust. Or for that matter pay close attenetion to the game and throw a challenge flag when it should be thrown(2 fumbles in the Giants game that would have been reversed)

Unless Vick can pull off a miracle, we are in for another dissapointing off season.
Getting rid of Mcnabb was indeed the right move. The coaching staff should be next.

Bleeding Green Nation Welcome back Derrick Burgess !

With Brandon Graham out for the year it looks like the birds will bring back former eagle Derrick Burgess. I have no idea what he has left but they must feel that Darryl Tapp and Juqua arent able to get the job done alone.  I like the move, I am sure hes not being paid much and if hes 75% of what he was in Oakland he will definitely help. Plus he knows the system. Good move by the Eagles...low risk--potentially high reward.
