Question for you random baseball trivia nerds...
I pulled open the Angels-Indians box score for today's game, only to see that every starter in the Angels lineup is hitting over .300. I wonder if a team has ever had a 9-man lineup hitting over .300 this late in the season. Batting average is what it is, but it still seems pretty amazing. Anyone know where you could go to look up something like this? I shutter to think that the Angels would be the latest squad to pull this off.
Bavasi Comment
Did anyone else hear the post-game show last week on KOMO when they had Bill Bavasi on the air? He made the comment that Jeff Pentland's goal for the Mariners this year is to "lead the league in runners left on base". Bavasi went on to explain that that would mean the M's were getting a ton of guys on base. Really? Maybe it means that we get hardly any runners on base and none of them score? I don't know who is worse: Pentland for making that a goal, or Bavasi for talking about it publically. It is time to clean house folks.
I know we argue about firing GM's mid-season, but would it really hurt us? Fine...let's wait until the day after the draft. I don't care. Clean house or expect under 10,000 fans a game all summer and for years to come. I know I won't pay to see this team again this year.
Jeff Brantley's Comment
Did anyone watch Baseball Tonight this weekend and see Jeff Brantley label Kenji Johjima as the biggest disappointment in April in all of MLB? It shocked me a little that he couldn't find someone worse (Beltre for starters), but I do agree that his defense has been way worse than promoted. I do have an issue with Brantley saying that Kenji was the reason for Felix Hernandez's struggles in April. A few passed balls isn't the reason why Felix is getting hit.
What is Narron Doing??
I know this is a M's blog, but this does involve a few former Mariners. What is Jerry Narron doing in Cincinnati? Has anyone seen the starting lineup today? Rich Aurilia is batting cleanup. I don't care if a lefty is going for the Cubs. You skip over Griffey, Dunn, Encarnacion, Kearns, Lopez and even Arroyo for Aurilia? Maybe the M's aren't going to be the laughing stock of MLB this season.
