Tyson Jackson quietly sheds bust label

While we were all enjoying a lovely Saturday evening football game, PFT came out with this gem.

Justin Houston - DPOTM

Surprise, surprise, the guy who wont 2 DPOTWs is the DPOTM. Fun time to be a Chiefs fan.

Chiefs are ideal environment for Tyler Bray

Great look at Bray so far with the Chiefs.

Bishop to visit the Chiefs after the Vikings

Along with the #Vikings today, ex-Packers LB Desmond Bishop is set to visit with the #Chiefs Thursday. He'll arrive Wednesday

Hester could be on his way out of Chicago

Obvious connection to the Chiefs here if this indeed happens.

Pioli tried to re-sign Albert.

Former Chiefs GM Scott Pioli said he tried to sign Branden Albert to a long-term deal last fall. Albert's agents has been overvaluing their client's market value for some time now. Pioli said the two sides were never even close. "There was a lot of money on the table," he said. "I'll say more money than is out there and available for him now. He and his representation chose not to take it ... They were asking for a lot of money, and I think that's part of the problem." With trade talks reportedly dead, Albert is running out of options. He can play out his one-year tender, sign a long-term deal with the Chiefs, or stage a holdout.

Packers ILB released

Packers waived ILB D.J. Smith. Smith suffered a major knee injury last October -- said to be at least a torn ACL, and wasn't expected to be ready by training camp. The Packers will move forward with Brad Jones, Rob Francois, and Terrell Manning behind Desmond Bishop and A.J. Hawk. Smith could still generate some interest on waivers. He just turned 24 years old and has held his own in nine career starts.

- Per Rotoworld Decent player, position of need, connection to staff. Wouldn't be shocked if he at least came in for a physical.

This could be why the Chiefs went with Diles/Jordan over Grant

NFL suspended free agent LB Larry Grant four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. This may explain Grant's cold free-agent market, although he wasn't expected to have a robust one in the first place. The 28-year-old is a fine special teams player and quality backup. Grant recently visited the Chiefs and Patriots, but he won't be eligible to return until Week 5.

Branden Albert talks to USA Today

"Four offensive line coaches, two GMs, three head coaches, five different offensive coordinators and seven quarterbacks I've blocked for," Albert said, rattling off the numbers. "But I think I've done well with the situation I've been given, with the teammates and coaches. I've learned how to play football and left tackle because I've had to, otherwise I was going to be a bust."

Quintin Mikelll released

Rams will release SS Quintin Mikell. Mikell graded out as a top-five safety in Pro Football Focus' 2012 ratings, but he's going on age 33 and was owed $6 million. The Rams do not value aging safeties enough to pay them that kind of coin. They now have needs at both safety spots and figure to pursue free agents like Louis Delmas, Kenny Phillips, Pat Chung, and Chris Clemons. Mikell should not lack for suitors because he can still play. He racked up 101 tackles, three sacks, and four forced fumbles last season.

Dorsey says drafting Joeckel wouldn't prevent him from signing Albert

"Who's to say both of those guys are locked in to playing left tackle? Maybe one plays left guard, center, right guard, right tackle. You put your best five offensive linemen out there,"

- John Dorsey after suggesting drafting Joeckel would not mean he wouldn't try to re-sign Albert.

Pioli says agreement isn't finalized.

Pioli seems to think the compensation is up in the air yet. I know almost everyone can't stand hearing this guys name but you have to think if anyone has good sources inside the Chiefs its Pioli because some of the people he worked with and had a good relationship with are still there. This is good news.

Pats expected to entertain offers for Mallett.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the Patriots are expected to "entertain offers" for Ryan Mallett on the heels of Tom Brady's contract extension. The Pats have Brady (cheaply) locked in for the next five seasons, and Mallett's rookie deal runs out in 2015. "I think it means he's gonna be traded," Rapoport said of Mallett. The Browns seem likely to at least explore the possibility of a trade, and might be the team Bill Belichick calls first. We suspect Mallett would be available for a second-rounder. Cleveland does not have a second-rounder in April's draft, but could either put together a package of 2013 picks or offer a second-round selection from a future draft

Curly Culp's HOF wait might soon end.

Good write up from BW over at ESPN about another Chiefs HoF candidate. Really hoping this is the year for Shields but it would be great to see Culp get a nod as well.

Compensatory Picks Projection

A write up by a blogger from bloggingthebeast.com about comp picks. Although he's just another one of us, he seems to have an incredible grasp on how the system works. Based on his projections the Chiefs will get a 3rd and a 7th and possibly(I think more of a certainty) a 6th rounder as well. Great read.

Mayock: Three or four QBs will go in the first round

I knopw a lot of people around here have been waiting to hear what Mayock has to say about QBs in this draft and while he doesn't get into individual analysis he thinks QBs will rise to the first round.

Chiefs today announced the hiring of former Jags offensive line coach Andy Heck as their new OL...

Chiefs today announced the hiring of former Jags offensive line coach Andy Heck as their new OL coach. As an outsider and not knowing much about him it's easy to be concerned because of the recent results on the field. As Jags fans can you help us out with any info about Heck or what to expect as fans? Thanks in advance.

Players turn in firearms after Belcher tragedy.

If this is true it's great to see. Like Florio said it isn't a huge percentage but a good start. Whether it's a culture thing or what I'm no sure but why these guys even have guns, registered/licensed or not.

Hali and Houston both fined for Monday Night infractions

Hali's fine I can kind of understand but almost 8k$ for dancing? Ridiculous.....

Eric Berry 100% healthy.

Sounds like he's ready to go for camp and the season.

Brian Daboll did say he wanted to be "multiple".....

This is a little nugget from NInja Goro's analysis of the Chiefs offense that maybe some people missed because it was a tiny link at the end of a very taxing but exceptionally presented post. If you haven't checked out the full post on the offense I highly recommend it. NGs breakdowns of both offense and defense are some of the best offseason posts I've read.

Rookie Camp Observations

A few Rookie Camp notes from the star. One interesting note, Allen being inserted at LG. Kent Babb has insisted that Asamoah is the future LG on this team but early on it looks like that may not be the plan.

Falcons release Ovie Mughelli

Depending on how the Chiefs plan to organize their backfield, we could still have room for a FB and this wouldn't be a bad guy to look at. He's a Pro Bowl type player that was making too much and Atlanta drafted a FB.
