Rookie Camp Observations
A few Rookie Camp notes from the star. One interesting note, Allen being inserted at LG. Kent Babb has insisted that Asamoah is the future LG on this team but early on it looks like that may not be the plan.
Falcons release Ovie Mughelli
Depending on how the Chiefs plan to organize their backfield, we could still have room for a FB and this wouldn't be a bad guy to look at. He's a Pro Bowl type player that was making too much and Atlanta drafted a FB.
Burfict's stock keeps dropping(if that's possible)
He's now also tested positive for drugs at the combine. Not sure what drugs but I imagine based on his combine performance it wasn't PEDs.
CSN New England's Tom Curran is hearing from multiple sources that the Patriots would target Alabama S Mark Barron if they made a trade to move up in the draft.
The Pats certainly have a need opposite Patrick Chung. They also have the ammo to trade up from No. 27, but they would have to give up quite a bit to move in front of the Cowboys at No. 14. As SI.com's Peter King suggested early in the week, Barron's stock is steadily on the rise.
If only Bill Belichick had an old buddy picking just before the Cowboys at 14....
Osweiler has visit set up with the Chiefs.
"According to Optimum Scouting's Eric Galko, Osweiler finished the Pro Day 66-of-75 passing and has pre-draft visits scheduled with the Broncos, Dolphins, Chiefs, and Bills. Per Somers, Osweiler has worked to alter his delivery, moving his arm to a higher point. Somers' "early guess" is that Osweiler has had a good enough offseason to jump into the second round."
Top 10 Pre Draft Trade Candidates
Interesting read on some potential tradeable guys. Also note who's listed in the first couple of players mentioned in the "other candidates" at the end of the list.
Chiefs show interest in Aubrayo Franklin
The source is William Williamson at ESPN and my pappy always said never trust anyone who has two of the same names. Williamson doesn't refer to any conversation or sources and could just be pulling it out of thin air. Babb said that last year there was no interest at all in Franklin by the Chiefs and so it's doubtful that we show interest this year but this is the first mention linking the two parties.
Condon/Pats feud could be the reason why Chiefs were out of the running early with Manning
Condon and Pats supposedly having issues with Brandon Lloyds contract details. Can imagine that there would be huge issues solving a Manning contract in KC with a bad history between Condon and Pioli.
Michael Lombardi thinks the Colts may try to keep Manning
Although it does make sense capwise to keep him, especially if he can actually play, it doesn't make sense financially for Irsay and there's no way you keep Manning and still take Luck first overall only to sit one of the two for multiple years.
"After finishing film evaluation of Memphis Dontari Poe it seems clear to me that he is much more of a big 3 tech DT than a true NT."

Raiders release Routt
I guess Al picked the wrong CB. Who wouldve thunk it?
Tyson Jackson hits 5.5M$ playing time incentive.
His salary this year with his incentive will baloon to up over 8M$ and with a 2013 salary of 14M$ looming it looks like he might be a candidate for restructuring next offseason which adds him to a laundry list that already will include Branden Albert, Glenn Dorsey and maybe even the player they decide to franchise this offseason.
Rotoworld release Mock Draft 1.0: Chiefs select OT.
I know, I know, just another mock draft and one that once again is selecting a tackle for the Chiefs. But beyond that is a very interesting mock with some unusual names entering(and exiting) the discussion for the first round.
Manning open to non-guaranteed/incentive laden contract when he hits the open market
Schefter reporting that Manning would consider not having a guaranteed contract, understanding the risk involved for the teams but rather have an incentive laden contract where he gets paid(likely alot) for triggering performance bonuses if he plays well. Even more reason for the Chiefs to consider this.
Dwayne "Rowe" makes it on TMZ from Indy
Our very own Dwayne Bowe makes it on TMZ but unfortunately for him no one has a clue who he is.
Shields said he is seriously considering getting involved in coaching. He has spent the past two summers interning with the New York Jets and he has coached at some college all-star games in addition to training some NFL prospects in recent years.
"I think I might be getting into coaching sooner than later," Shields said. "I always want to be around the game."
-ESPN Bill Williamson AFCW Blog: Canton may soon welcome Will Shields
Bowles joining Eagles, Castillo remains as defensive coordinator
You might think this is not Chiefs related but it is to a degree. You could make a strong argument that Romeo/Pioli taking their time on finding coordinators hasn't really cost them any really good candidates. On the offensive side of the ball the only name of any value that's come off the board is Arians and on defense there hasn't been much until now...
You would think a guy like Bowles, who has had suitors for head coaching and defensive coordinator positions the last two offseasons, wouldve/shouldve been on the Chiefs radar and that we have certainly more to offer then Philly. We have an open DC spot or at the very least an open defensive assistant spot on our team and an aging DC/HC who will be retiring soon. Not to mention Bowles has been a 3-4 team and could really contribute something to our rising defense.
Unless news comes out that KC was in the running for his services this is strike one against the front office and HC for letting this guy get away.
Raiders will hire Dennis Allen
Who knew that one seasons as a DC where you took a team from 30th in defense to the mid 20s would be good enough to become a head coach. Only in Oakland.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Matt Cassel will "for sure" be the Chiefs' starting quarterback heading into training camp.
Via Rotoworld: Schefter's comments leave the door open for the Chiefs to add competition, but the feeling among organization higher-ups is that Cassel can still be a success. Free agent Kyle Orton has hinted he won't be back after leading the Chiefs to a 2-1 record down the stretch.
"According to the superb Chiefs’ fan site, Arrowhead Pride, here is what Crennel had to say about Orton on Monday"
William Williamson, ESPN AFCW Blogger
Roaf and Shields both included in list of HoF finalists
t would be appropriate if they went in together(even if Roaf goes in a Saint). Looking more and more like Shields will be the first ballot HoF we all thought he was.
Spider-Man, Iron-Man, The Hulk, Tim Tebow?
Marvel comics and ESPN are giving Tim Tebow his own comic book based on "Tebow TIme". I've run out of words, when it comes to Tebow, to even address this.
Hue Jackson meltdown.
Can't help but love this as a Chiefs fan.
Early Games Open Thread: The Jaguars are doing a bad job of losing edition.
Come in, pull up a chair and talk about some early games(that have some interesting results so far), draft talk, free agency talk, hangover talk, etc.
Back on top.
"According to Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN Stats & Information), the last time there was a three-way tie for first place between 4-3 teams was in 1989 in the old AFC Central. The Browns won on a Monday night to force a three-way tie between Cleveland, Houston and Cincinnati. Cleveland went on to win the division at 9-6-1."
Hopefully we can duplicate what the 1989 Browns did by winning Monday and having it propel the team to a division title. Those same Browns ended up losing in the AFC Championship game.
Richard (Greensboro, NC)
Whose QB situation would you prefer to have for the future: Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders?
Adam Schefter (2:44 PM)
Great question, Richard. Kyle Orton might be the best quarterback of the three teams, but his contract is up and Denver hasn't shown any inclination to keep him so far. Matt Cassel has proven he is good enough to win with. If Cassel plays the way he did last year, think I'd take him.
Alot of people around here take Schefter's word as gospel. Sounds like he doesn't mind our QB.
Not Chiefs/NFL related but from the world of pro sports: Russian Jet with professional hockey team crashes. 43 killed.
Sad day in the hockey world as a plane with 45 crew and staff/players from a pro hockey team in Russia went down today. They are reporting that there is only two survivors and there's 6-7 former NHL players that were on the flight included in the victims.
Chiefs claim OT off waivers from the Patriots.
Tackle Steve Maneri claimed off waivers today by the Chiefs. He has potential as a swing tackle and is the 6th cut by the Pats to not make it to their PS.
