Looking forward to the playoffs, even without the Avs. You won't finish reading it (Drink once for every side note. Don't drive after.)

Among League Consideration: An all 3-point system?

17

I agree with changing the point system in the NHL today. The ".500 record" has become a little more manufactured than reflective of the talent on the team. I certainly wouldn't have helped the Avalanche this season, but the change would be better in the long run.

Seems pretty on the ball with Colorado's 2011-2012 season. It's pretty long, but good stuff and a broad perspective.

Great Interview. Bettman never once finds himself in a corner and Costas asks great questions. Touches on CBA, Head Injuries, Being a 4th place League and a couple more topics.

A lame response to "What to do with the Duke"

The team keeps winning, but the lines keep changing. Hejduk's injured than he's not. Regardless, he's not scoring goals like he used to with Foppa (who knew?). Galiardi's injured, then healthy,...

TSN breaks down the trade:

1

At first I hated it, but a lot of good things are being said about Downie and Quincey was overrated. The 1st rounder may as well be a 2nd with how late it comes and the depth of the draft. This is likely a solid hockey trade and Sherman deserves a couple weeks before we start calling for his job again. Shotgun has some good points. Talk it up with him about the trade.

Changes on the Way?

12

I'm thinking yes. Stastny, Jones, O'Brien, Quincey and Galiardi are at the top of my list. Disagree below.

Somebody think Weber as an Av could happen.

27

I still don't. Weber is more of an enigma. I would love to have him, don't get me wrong. I still don't think it will happen. Still, there has been a lot more talk about the Avs getting a number 2 dman. Weber is still kind of like a number one guy but you get the idea. Jack Johnson's name is also getting tossed around. I say we trade for the Schenn brothers. You know, if the "quest" for Weber doesn't happen. Weber to the Avs? Holy moly. And I like myself some moly.

Lars Eller available?

I probably sound like a broken record, but this guy is fun to watch. Great defensively, hasn't quite reached his ceiling offensively, but would make a great third line center with Galiardi to his left if we ended up trading Stastny. Happy to keep Stazz, but Eller would be a good consolation prize. Just seems like he'd fit with the team.

Matt Duchene will be back soon. Put him on the left side of Paul Stastny with Peter Mueller on the...

The best off-season FA singing? Give you a hint: He's only played 7 games.

5

If I were to be so bold that I made Star Wars comparisons to each of our players, I may use Matt Duchene as our Luke Skywalker, Radar would certainly be Han Solo and Paul Stastny would be the feminine, but dependable Princess Leah. Obi Wan is easy--Hejduk. What about Yoda? Who has that calming persona that exemplifies wisdom and consistency? JS Giguere. The man may not have to play in every game, but when he has played, he has been great between the pipes. What catches my eye more is that he always knows the right thing to say when the team has been struggling. Certainly, the signing of the Cup winning veteran proved to be a better investment than Lindstrom and Kobasew has played a lot of games but fails to turn heads. Giguere has been not only a VERY capable backup, but a great rock for Varlamov, too. His experience and attitude in the locker room, from what I can tell from interviews and articles, has been the only thing keeping us from another total collapse (Also improved play in our own zone and a breakout year from Ryan O'Reilly). Just saying. This veteran plays one of the most important roles for the Avalanche, and be already be acting more like a captain for Joe Sacco and Company than anyone else in that locker room. Best off-season signing by Sherman, perhaps ever.

Front Office plays the waiting game... so do the fans. Worth it?

3

The Avalanche have there two goaltenders, Landeskog, Stastny, Kobasew and O'Byrne signed for next season. Obviously there are a few signing that are all but inked for the Avalanche (Duchene, etc.), but is patience key? The Avalanche are coming up on a new CBA as well as a division realignment. Maybe waiting to see how the division realignment plays out will work in their favor. A lot of how teams build around their players is based on the teams you compete with in your division. A lot of people hating on Sherman. The two big trades need to play out a little longer and I'm sure he's got something up his sleeve as far as trading or FA goes, especially for the upcoming offseason. I'm willing to play the waiting game with him.
