Windy City Gridiron Bears All-Time Defensive Team

I just got in the mail the new Bears dvd A Tradition Of Defense and I thought you might be interested as to who they picked for the eleven starters on defense.  Six of the eleven players are from the '85 Bears.  They did tell about other players too, but the following are their choices for starters...

Defensive Line - Doug Atkins (DE), Steve McMichael (DT), Dan Hampton (DT), Richard Dent (DE)

Linebackers - Wilbur Marshall (weakside), D ick Butkus (middle), Otis Wilson (strongside)

Secondary - Gary Fencik (Free Safety), Richie Pettibon (Strong Safety), Red Grange (Cornerback), George McAfee (Cornerback)

In 2001 the now defunct publication Football Digest had McAfee as a safety on their Bears All-Time team.

I highly recommend the dvd.  Here's the link for the dvd...

For what it's worth I asked a Bears fan who has followed the Bears for over 44 years (he was at the game in 1965 when Sayers scored 6 touchdowns) what changes he would make.  He said he would replace Steve McMichael with Wally Chambers and Otis Wilson with Doug Buffone.  I also asked him who are the best two Bears' cornerbacks he has seen play and he said Leslie Frazier and Bennie McRae.  Of the following players (J. C. Caroline, Bennie McRae, Mike Richardson, Donnell Woolford, Charles Tillman, and pre 2007 Nathan Vasher) he said Richardson was the worst.
