Schadenfreude Deluxe Miami Heat Edition

I know I'm bringing bad karma to the Lakers, but I can't help but smile as I read this. Some of the highlights: "More and more, it appears as if LeBron is intent in taking over the offense, no matter the approach, sort of as he did in Cleveland." - mm hmm. "... how long do you think Riley will let it ride with a ‘finesse’ power forward? I’d like to see them get a banger in there." - already talking about getting NEW players! LOL. "Why don’t you see more LeBron posting up low?" - a familiar refrain. Click on the headline to read the full Q&A

Lebron-Kobe Thread 2010-2011

I feel that Dex did a great service by creating a Lebron-Kobe thread last season, which acted to contain the Lebron-Kobe comparisons and smack talk to one thread. In that spirit, I create this...

Can I make a quick rant to opposing teams' fans, before the Lakers' first loss of the season (Sorry if everyone thinks the Lakers are going to go 82-0)? Look, I know your team can beat the Lakers. I know that. The real problem is beating the Lakers four times out of seven possible tries. Please keep that in mind. Thank you.

Kobe Bryant is Just Like a Greedy Banker .... Riiiight

London - Kobe Bryant says he'd beat Lebron James in a game of one-on-one, nothing personal. Kobe is a one-on-one player at heart, Lebron is a five-on-five guy by nature ... Is this news? The answer would have been the same without thinking twice, whatever player you stuck in there instead of Lebron (He may have hesitated at MJ, but he'd still say he would beat him). You decide, I'm sure many will have an opinion on this ...

Biting the Hand that Feeds You: Gary Payton

38

Maybe it's because he's in the Phillipines, or maybe he's just a free talker, but Gary Payton doesn't mince words when comparing Kobe and Dwyane Wade in talking about the expectations on the Heat this season: "I’ve played with Dwyane and it’s no knock on him but if you compare him with Kobe (Bryant), there’s a big difference in their work ethic. I played with Kobe, too, and he’d be more from my era. Kobe knows how to be humble. If Kobe loses a game, you’ll see him the next day in the gym, working extra hard to make sure he’ll be better. I don’t know if it’s the same with Dwyane. They’re both great players but Dwyane is more the show type..." It's a bit strange coming from Payton, since DWade delivered him his only ring, but hey, the truth is da truth! Click on the headline for the full article

In response to my phantom attackers who mythologize Michael Jordan and say "MJ would never have X" ... this time "X" is "Miss a wide open dunk in a playoff game" ... well, he did. He is the best of all time, but that still means he makes mistakes... just like Kobe. Only difference is Kobe lives in the present with youtube and 24/7 media coverage, so you see his foibles as well as his successes. But luckily this guy had his VHS camera (how the hell did he sneak that thing in back in the days when they were the size of Nike shoe boxes?) MM kay, thx.

Phil Jackson Officially Signs New Deal

36

Phil's signed a contract, but unfortunately no one seems to know much more about the deal, like how much it's for. But you can bet it's for one year, and for a boatload of money (but less than last year's $12 million salary). BShaw, Frank Hamblen, and Jim Cleamons are also coming back, and Chuck Person is now officially an assistant coach. Click on the headline to read basically what I just wrote.
