The Gift of Hindsight and Ovechkin's Contract/Production
There has been a lot of talk about Ovechkin's "terrible" contract and his underperformance. There has been talk about his trade value and even a local media member suggesting a straight-up trade for Rick Nash. I'll start with that idea and then move on to Ovi's contract.
The Ovi-Nash trade was described on this forum as the dumbest idea in history, to which others countered that the expected performance of the two over the next six years does not justify for the $1.7M difference in salaries. Of course, that is assuming that the two's decline will be equal, but does not seem to account that such a decline would be from two different levels.

How would you fix Ovechkin's game?
The linked Rock the Red article suggested that Ovechkin should model his game after Brett Hull and try to find mor e open ice to wait for a pass from his linemates instead of carrying the puck into the zone himself.
What say you?
Personally, I think there is not a problem with Ovechkin carrying the puck into the zone. He just needs to try different things when he does it. I'd like him to just barrel into the defender a couple times with the puck, he'll most likely lose the puck but it may open up some space for him the next time he comes down the ice. Or he should make use of a drop pass and make a beeline for the net to cash in on rebounds.
Do the Caps need an agitator/pest?
I'd like to turn this into a FanPost, but haven't had the time. Looking at the rosters of past Stanley Cup champions, as well as the teams in who were in the Conference Finals this year I noticed something - they all had players who fit the pest/agitator mold.
The last time we went to the Final, we had two notable agitators on the roster - Simon and Tikkannen.
