Colts working out DE/OLB Bruce Davis

According to indyfootballreport.com the Colts are bringing in former 2008 Steelers 3rd-round pick, Bruce Davis for a work out. He played DE at UCLA but the Steelers tried to switch him to OLB and it didn't work out. Decent size (in comparrison to Marcus Howard at least) to match the Colts new philosophy on the Dline. 6'3", 250 lbs.

8-man Practice Squad set... we added a TE?

According to the IndyStar's website, Jason Pociask, a 3rd-year TE, was added to the Colts Practice Squad. He played in college at Wisconsin (Polian loves him some Big 10) and went to high school locally in Plainfield, IN.

I know Santi's injured, but wow... Colin Cloherty is already on there, and there are 3 WRs. That's a total of 5 receivers of the 8-man squad. Looks like their still searching for something else out of that position. Still unknown when and if Terrance Taylor will land on any team's Practice Squad.

With Pociask added that make the Practice Squad Shape up like this:

Colin Cloherty - TE

John Gill - DL

Sam Giguere - WR

Mike Hart - RB

John Mattews - WR

Jason Pociask - TE

With all of the roster shuffling today, I've been checking out the roster and depth charts on Colts.com and saw something interesting on the depth chart. (here).

It looks to me like Wheeler is out as the starting strong side linebacker.

Is this because Wheeler has yet to impress or is this just a move due to gameplanning for the Jags? Obviously, it's the depth chart for Week 1 because Ed Johnson doesn't appear on here. I was a little underwhelemed with him in the pre-season. Were Coyer and Caldwell also? I guess we'll find out on Sunday. FOOTBALL IS BACK!

Hoping we haven't seen the last of the 3 Waive/Injured players. But I wouldn't be surprised if CuJo gets picked up by another team. I thought he was playing pretty well this preseason, just not finishing some plays. The same could be said for Howard though. We'll see what happens. But that D-line is still going to need some chopping to get us to the 53. Good players will be cut. Polian, watch the waiver wires for a stud OT!!!

Corey Hilliard is not a Colt today. Per Mike Chappell reports (here).

The team waived offensive tackle Corey Hilliard and re-signed offensive lineman Tom Pestock. You gotta feel a little bad for the guy - he just had a kid last week and now he's not earning a paycheck. Honestly wish him the best of luck, but he was responsible for Peyton getting sacked twice on Friday. Maybe not entirely his fault, but still... Pestock is supposed to be good in the run game - maybe he's someone that sticks on the P.S.

According to John Oehser (here) the Colts have re-signed DE Josh Thomas.

I'm baffled... Not only did we sign DE Rudolph Hardie last week, DT John Gill yesterday, but now we sign DE Josh Thomas. I love the dedication to beefing up the line, but that means thicker athletes, not just MORE people. How many Dlineman can we realistically keep on the roster, 11 - 12 MAX. I love the competition for spots but seriously Polian...

Mike Chappell is reporting that we have waived OT Brandon Barnes and signed DT John Gill (here).

UPDATE: Here's a link to an NFL Draft Scout report on Gill. He's 6'3, 302 pounds. Also, cutting Barnes might signal that the Colts are very confident in Ryan Lilja's health. Thanks to GoHorse88 for the FanPost and chad72 for the scouting report link! --bbs

I can't say this one makes much sense to me. Our Offensive Line SUCKED on Friday night. Why are the cutting guys like Tom Pestock and Brandon Barnes just to bring in more D lineman?

We would have been wetting ourselves with this information last year, but I think we're stacked on the D line right now. We need able bodies that can protect the Franchise (aka Peyton) and get a running game going. WTF mate? Surprised they didn't cut Corey Hilliard if they're going to get rid of Offensive Lineman.

In Polian we Trust, I guess. I'm going to go research John Gill and see what sort of wrinkles he'll bring to a seemingly deep defensive front.
