Tryon and Powers rated #3 and #10, respectively in Yds/Pass in 2010

+

My opinion they should be our starting CBs next year. Hayden is a good teammate, and not a bad CB, he's just not $7 million good. Anyway, the main purpose of the article is discussing "Success Rate," where "Success Rate" is defined as "percentage of passes that don't manage to get at least 45 percent of needed yards on first down, 60 percent of needed yards on second down, or 100 percent of needed yards on third down." Tryon was 13th in "Success Rate" and 6th in YAC. Powers was 24th in "Success Rate" and 23rd in YAC. Pretty impressive for some young dudes. Interesting offseason stuff from Football Outsiders again! Great article, please read.

Brings up a number of the same points we tend to conclude here as well. Worth the read.

Colts to workout North Carolina Central OT Eric Stanley and DT Teryl White

1

Trying to find some specs on these guys. So far: OL Eric Stanley Ht: 6'5" Wt: 347 lbs DT Teryl White Ht: 6'4" Wt: 303 lbs NFL Draft Scout Page YouTube Profile Here's an article where Eric Stanley says if he could invite anyone to lunch it would be Colts' very own Jeff Saturday and talks about sqauting 700 lbs (yikes). School's interview with Teryl White.

Colts check out small school CB, Prathon Wilkerson

11

A speedy CB from Albany State that apparently matched up well against small school sleeper WR Ricardo Lockette. Was Albany State's "Special Teams Player of the Year."

Russell Brand talks to Jim Irsay

1

This must have been a few years back, but I've never seen it: This is an excerpt from Russell Brand's BBC documentary "On the Road." We have an interesting owner, but totally seems like someone you'd want to grab a beer with. Short video, but interesting. Especially if you find Russell Brand entertaining. Just look how close he sits to Irsay on the couch in Dungy's office - weird stuff. Enjoy!

Assistant Coaches Turner and Reich swap duties

+

Looks like Ron Turner will now be the QB coach and Frank Reich will take over as the WR coach. I wonder what prompted the change?

Colts work out CFL OG Brendon LaBatte

3

Hidden at the bottom of the article I've linked to from over the weekend is a report that we worked out the CFL's Winnepeg Blue Bombers starting Left OG, Brendon LaBatte. Young guy, drafted 6th overall in the CFL draft back in 2008. Here's his Blue Bombers Bio: http://www.bluebombers.com/roster/show/id/1893 Apparently he was the team's nominee for 2008's award for the Most Outstanding Rookie and 2009's nominee for nominee for the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award as well as being named to the East's All-Star squad. Appreciate the due diligence by the Colts' FO - not sexy news though. Just hope their efforts aren't wasted not being spent researching NFL prospects for the 2011 NFL draft or current NFL free agents to bolster the 2011 Oline. GO HORSE!

Colts sign OT/OG Mike Tepper to Future Contract

2

Looks like we're already starting to bring in some competition on the Oline. I like the signing. Kid has some smarts and girth to him - lacking in the athleticism department though. More of a OG prospect probably, maybe RT. Apparently, we also worked out OT Casey Bender out of South Dakota State - spent 2010 offseason with Cleveland after going undrafted. Link

No way, we have a Fullback! PS rounds out.

4

"The Colts also have added two players to the practice squad in fullback/tight end Matt Clapp and wide receiver Chris Brooks. " Matt Clapp, 6'2", 246lbs was Brody Eldridge and Sam Bradford's teammate at Oklahoma. Good lead blocker with solid receiving skills apparently. Was with the Lions during the offseason. Chris Brooks 6'2", 215lbs is a big WR from Nebraska. With Polian aware that Nebraska is being added to the Big 10 next year he's probably just trying to stockpile for his Big 10 quota, haha. Can't find a lot about him. Was with Tampa Bay during the offseason.

Tony Ugoh goes unclaimed on waivers, reverts to IR, Taj Smith released with Injury Settlement

6

Interesting that Ugoh went unclaimed, his injury is that serious or other teams really don't value his skills at all. An article I saw had Ugoh's agent quoted as saying they had already been contacted by 3 teams... Could have been agent speak, or his injury is one that won't allow him to be worth a roster spot this year after all. Good luck to Ugoh, whether here, or elsewhere. It was interesting that Caldwell said yesterday in his time with the media that perhaps they will bring him back to compete again for a roster spot. We'll see. Shame with Taj, his speed was rare and with the amount of rave reviews he recieved in training camp this year and last, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a shot in the future somewhere else. Best of luck to him.

New OT Joe Reitz' reaction to his last week whirlwind

3

Sounds pretty excited to get a chance with his hometown team. He's got the build and hopefully some good potential. We're gonna need some surprise performances out of Olinemen this year. GO HORSE!

QB Hiller waived, RB Patrick Allen and CB Glenn Sharpe signed

+

Glenn Sharpe to replace Jordan Hemby's spot on the roster, I imagine Patrick Allen signed due to injuries at the RB position. Maybe J. James and D. Moore won't play this week. They've both missed multiple practices. The front office must have seen enough out of Hiller to think him expendable. Between Painter and Brandstater, I think 1 sticks on the regular season roster, the other goes to the P.S.

Colts waived DB-David Caldwell and signed DB-Donye’ McCleskey

2

In the Transactions section. Shame, seeing the film on Caldwell looked like he could be a terror on the field. Maybe he's just too injured to play in the preseason. Very minor transaction, best of luck to Donye' and DAC.

OG/OC McClendon's injury - Right Leg?

4

Per the Rapid Report today, the injury is listed as a Right Leg. No more information than that, but it's something. Hopefully not a break or anything serious for the Rookie. Sadly, I think we're gonna need all the help we can get. Go Horse!

Profootball Weekly's writer observations from TC - Day 1

+

Mostly stuff we heard, but I didn't see the quotes from Fili before. Any observations we can get, right? Go Horse!

TE Tom Santi waived/injured

+

Per CBSSports.com Rapid Reports, as reported by Tom James, TE Tom Santi was waived/injured (back) today to get the roster to the demanded 80 active players. Sad to see this happen, obviously we all see his potential, but you gotta stay healthy. If he passes through waivers we could see him land on IR, or possibly even Reserve/PUP list if the front office choses. I hope for the 2nd status because I don't feel Gijon Robinson offers any upside any longer. GO HORSE!

OLB Ramon Humber article

+

Some people have talked about him not making the roster this year, but I would be surprised. A PFW article talked about how much the FO liked his potential and he is a demon on ST. Should make for good competition at the LB spot though with the new additions this offseason. Come on training camp!

2010 Colts Roster AP Headshots

9

Since training camp doesn't start for another 10 days, here's something to pass the time. There are some GEMS in here: - DT Jake Ricks (tryout player, must not have impressed) - LB Cory Hogue (same as Ricks) - DT Eric Foster with short hair - QB Curtis Painter looking like a total doof Let's get the rest of the rookies signed and get to Anderson! GO HORSE!

Short article about WR Blair White

8

Nothing big, but it's something during the offseason. Would be cool to have 2 guys from your college program in the same offseason situation as yourself as a rookie. Good luck to them all - the more competition the better! GO HORSE!

Colts attend BYU RB Harvey Unga's Pro Day

+

Possible late round selection thrown out there to compete with Hart for the FB/short yardage RB role? We shall see.

Profootball Weekly's take on Colts' OG Situation

1

Hopefully both guys are serious about winning back the starting spot. Competition brings the best out of people. GO HORSE!

Hart interview from Syracuse Youth Camp

3

Hart recently held a youth football camp in Syracuse (where he's from) along with his childhood friends, and NFL players Raiders S Tyvon Branch and Saints LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar. Here is an interview he did with the other guys that put on the camp together. Cool to see their back and forth. They also talk about ex-Colt, Curtis Johnson, who apparently grew up in the same area as the rest of them.

New Article with Pollak and DeVan

+

Hopefully the fire from the SB loss can mean some more consistant play out of these young Olinemen. Bring on training camp!!!!

QB Drew Willy and DE J.D. Skolnitsky Waived

5

Hadn't seen this reported anywhere else (but roster adjusted on Wikipedia for days). Finally found a link to a credible source and thought I'd share with my fellow StampedeBlue constituents. Maybe we'll signed 2 of the rookies soon...oh wait, it's the Colts. GO HORSE!

Colts claim QB Brandstater off waivers from Denver

+

Gives us an upgrade on Drew Willy, at least, probably Hiller too, and as much as it pains me to admit, possible Painter. He's not the next coming of Peyton, but he certainly adds some legitamacy to Polian's attempt to upgrade the backup QB roster spot. GO HORSE!!!

A cool Colin Cloherty article

4

We'll see if this guy makes it past training camp, but in the offseason, we need articles like this just to get our fix.

Former OSU OLB Marcus Freeman - Failed Physical for Colts

3

Apparently, we considered signing him this off-season. I remember us being pretty high on him last year around draft time. Sad story for a once up-and-coming NFL talent. Best of luck to him with coaching and his health!

An Article on JD Skolnitsky

1

Seems like a motivated kid - hopefully he can get after some QBs!!!!

Caldwell to film African American History Documentary

+

Cool, but I hope it doesn't distract him from his main job - getting us back to the Super Bowl!!!!!

Colts showing interest in OG Ritchie Incognito

11

WOW!!! This would be the most telling sign that the Colts Offensive Line Philosophy is brand spanking new. No doubt the skill is there with this guy and maybe the Colts' all-business attitude would help Ritchie from getting out of line. I bet the Dolphins sign him and we don't get a shot at him anyway, but again - WOW!
