Getting To Know Zbynek Michalek

Want to know more about one of the Penguins' newest players? Look inside to find out what Zbynek Michalek is all about.

Pens Create "Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation" to Focus Charitable, Community Efforts on Youth

This makes me so proud to be a Penguins fan. They care about the fans and the community, which is exactly the way it should be in professional sports (yes Ben, I'm looking at you).

Penalties and Penguins

Which Penguins were the most effective at drawing penalties this year? An analysis that no sporting gentleman should miss.

Adjusting For Teammates And Competition

What's one way to adjust for teammates and competition? Find out inside.

Randy Sexton Named Penguins Assistant Director of Amateur Scouting

Even when Ray Shero isn't signing players, he's still getting stuff done behind the scenes. Sexton was a former GM for Florida and Ottawa, so he's a great addition to the Penguins' scouting staff.

Shots and Territorial Possession

Which Penguins led the team in Corsi this year? Find out inside.

Who is Dan Hamhuis?

What do Nashville fans think of Dan Hamhuis? Find out inside.

Thoughts on Hamhuis

Hey guys, I'm a writer over at Pensburgh, and we've been talking quite a bit lately about Dan Hamhuis. I checked up on his stats and got a decent impression, but I'm writing this fan post because...

Pensburgh Wrap-up: Dan Bylsma

How did Dan Bylsma do with the Penguins this year? Find out inside.

Individual PDO Numbers

I crunched some PDO numbers for an article I wrote over at Pensburgh and figured I'd re-post the big points here. I'm not sure if anyone has ever looked at individual PDO numbers in great...

PDO And What It Means

What is PDO and how predictive is it? Answers inside.

Pensburgh wrapup: Jay McKee

How did Jay McKee do this year? Find out inside.

Cooke re-signs with the Penguins

The deal is for three years with a yearly salary cap hit of $1.8 million. The length of the contract is a bit surprising for Shero given Cooke's age and the fact that he's not part of the Penguins' core. But this is a good signing overall.

Pensburgh wrapup: Matt Cooke

Want to know how Matt Cooke did this year? Check out the analysis inside.

The Penguins' 1st Round Pick

The Penguins have the 20th pick in this year's NHL draft. Which players are likely on their radar? Check inside to find out.

Sidney Crosby Ranked No. 1 in Sporting News' 50 Greatest Players in Today's NHL

It was announced today that Sidney Crosby barely edged out Alex Ovechkin as Sporting News' best player in the NHL today. The panel that selected the players was composed of 121 hockey experts. Other notable Penguins include Evgeni Malkin (3) and Marc-Andre Fleury (24). I'm not sure how much stock to put in these rankings, as they have Chris Osgood at #48. Thoughts?

Pensburgh wrapup: Pascal Dupuis

Want to know how Pascal Dupuis did this season? Yearly review inside.

Penguins to open preseason against Detroit

The Penguins announced today that the first ever NHL game to be played at Consol Energy Center (Igloo 2.0?) will be against the Detroit Red Wings. The Penguins will also be playing Chicago and Columbus in the preseason.

Marc-Andre Fleury and Save Percentage: Part II

What happened to Marc-Andre Fleury this season? In-depth analysis inside provides an answer.

Pens Sign Defenseman Wagner

Steve Wagner is the defenseman we got in return for Nate Guenin. But at 26 years old, he's probably not going to be an impact player for the Penguins.

Pensburgh wrapup: Max Talbot

How did Max Talbot do this year? Info, stats, and analysis inside.

A Little Help Please: Sid and Geno's Line Mates

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin did not have the best line mates in the league this year. But how did they compare to one another? Find out inside.

Marc-Andre Fleury and Save Percentage: Part I

What was up with Marc-Andre Fleury this year? A two-part series attempts to break down his save percentage and try to figure out why he saw a drop in numbers.

Penguins vs. Canadiens: Shot Quality

A blogger over at Brodeur is a Fraud (yes, that's the actual name of the site) looked at shots from the Pens-Habs series that were tracked according to location. He found that shots that went high were much more likely to go in than shots that were low. After eliminating some games from the consideration due to bad data, he found that the Habs had 39 high shots and the Pens had 37. The Habs did a better job at capitalizing on their chances, but this is some evidence that they had more high-quality opportunities.

Pensburgh wrapup: Craig Adams

A look at Craig Adams' 2009-2010 season. Info, stats, and analysis inside.

Kris Letang's 2009-2010 Season

How did Kris Letang do this year? An in-depth look will help you figure it out.

Bruins Sign Seidenberg

It looks like the Penguins won't be able to sign the regular season leader in blocked shots this year. With Seidenberg's exit from the free agent market, I think Michalek just gained a lot of value.

The Penguins' Powerplay With and Without Gonchar

With the discussion of whether or not to re-sign Gonchar gaining momentum as July 1st gets closer, I wanted to look at just how valuable he really is to the Penguins' powerplay. Some say that he's...

Gonchar's Salary

Puck Prospectus took a look at some of the big free agents that will be available this summer, and Gonchar was one of them. Using Tom Awad's VUKOTA projection system, they estimated what Gonchar's production will be next year, and how much they think he's worth. He's the fourth one down on the page. Too much, too little, or just right?
