The Slipper Still Fits Some news on GJ

ESPN ran a quick little blurb about GJ today on its College Basketball Rumor Mill. It said that he chose Appalachian State as the school to which he will transfer(I don't know if this is old news or not). It mentioned another transfer that App State got from Rutgers, a 6'11" center named Brian Okam. Both seem to have the same story, guys that played on teams that did not really need them at the time and transferred to a team in a small conference. This was a quote that I loved,

"Vilarino was somewhat expendable for the Kentuckys and Gonzagas of DI, but he'll be a major piece for the Mountaineers..."

it later said,

"So both players will need to work hard during their transfer seasons in order to live up to the hype of their power-conference pedigrees."

Its good to hear some news on GJ and it is always good to hear Gonzaga mentioned with Kentucky in such a positive way, also who knew that the WCC was a "power conference". How great would it be to match up with Appalachian State in the tournament in 2011?

The Slipper Still Fits Leon Rice Update

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/features/rumors

A great little write up on ESPN Insider about Boise State and their transition to the Mountain West.

"It looks like Rice has done enough to keep the Broncos from embarrassing themselves in the MWC, but his future will depend on his ability to shatter the status quo, fill the seats in Taco Bell Arena and snag one of those precious postseason bids. We'll be interested to see how his 2011 and 2012 recruiting wish lists change now that he can officially sell the MWC to his favorite prospects."

It also talks about Coach Rice's gamble on telling his recruits that they will be playing in the MWC even before they were invited. The gamble seemed to pay off and will hopefully continue to pay off as Coach Rice tries to build a program in Boise. I think I speak for the Gonzaga Community by saying we wish him luck.

The Slipper Still Fits Austin at the Draft Combine

It looks like he is really doing well in the drills. It sounds as though NBA GM's are taking notice and he actually has a chance to be a lottery pick. Too bad for us, but good for him. Here are a few things. Here is what Chad Ford had to say about him after the first day:

"Of the group, Gonzaga's Austin Daye helped himself the most. He was flawless in the drills, launching and hitting shots from everywhere on the floor and showing a very high basketball IQ."

Also,

"How good was Daye's workout? Several lottery teams told me that they were ready to give him a second look."

Here is a video breakdown of day 2:

The Slipper Still Fits A little off topic but...

Congratulations to Meech's older brother Mike Goodson on being drafted this weekend. He went to the Panthers with the 11th pick of the 5th round. It's hard to imagine that he will get a ton of touches behind WIlliams and Jonathan Stewart, but there are also not too many guys better to teach him how to be a solid NFL back than those two. I wish Mike all the luck and it truly shows the athleticism that this family has. Just imagine what Meech would look like as a corner...

The Slipper Still Fits I never thought I would say this...

Matt Bouldin for WCC player of the year. The kid is just stepping up, great game by Matt and the rest of the boys. I was looking at the box score and I had an epiphany. I realized that I was upset that they shot a higher percentage than many other teams have. Then I laughed, because they only shot 42%. I love that the Zags have turned into a great defensive team! That game was incredible and the backcourt of Matt and Jeremy looked like one of the best in the country. I love that all of our starters played incredible and we went into an opposing gym and took over. Great game!!!

The Slipper Still Fits Great Game!!

I may not be in the best place to comment on tonight's game, but allow me to give a commentary from someone in the house! First of all, the kennel was super loud tonight, the students were incredible and the rest of the fans spent a bunch of the time on their feet for the first time in a decade. It is too bad that Patty Mills got hurt, I really wanted to see him play in the 2nd half, and I feel like this game showed how big of a difference there is in the two teams. Gonzaga had 4 players, and Josh was one point short of having all 5 starters in double figures. Once Mills went down the Gaels offense went stagnant. One team is almost too deep for its own good, and the other is one big injury from being a non-factor in the WCC. It was a great game, and a perfect ending to Samhan's interesting trip to the kennel (sitting on the bench for the final 4 minutes). Good win Zags.

As a side note, good work Portland, lets make it a winless trip to the great Northwest for the Torreros of San Diego.

The Slipper Still Fits Anyone who goes to the St. Mary's game...

This is a quote from Omar Samhan found in a facebook message. I want you to remember this and help us come up with chants that attack him and everything he stands for.

"Just remember that you have to wake up, eat, and sleep, everyday in the worst f@#king part of our country. Spokane f@#king washington, whatever inspired you to go to that school honestly makes you a terrible person, your gym sucks, your chicks are ugly, and worst of all you have to live in spokane.

suck one"

The Slipper Still Fits Guys, I know you closed the posts but...

I want to emphasize what Huskerzag and bulldad said about the KC Board. I truly am sorry that Phillip did not get a ticket and it is too bad that students at a Jesuit university that is rooted in ethics are cutting in front of others. As part of the KC Board I want to encourage all members of the KC Club and any other students attending the games to be as loud as possible. If you don't like the cheers, cheer louder. Make it so loud in the MAC that no one can hear what we are cheering. I also want to say something to everyone camping out for the game on Thursday, yall are awesome and stay warm. Let the KC Board know if there is anything we can bring yall that will make it more bearable. I hope you enjoyed the hot chocolate and cookies, as well as the hand warmers that were given out tonight. Also, don't get too crazy, we need everyone healthy for our game against San Diego. I know there are some things that needs to be done to make the ticket distribution process better, however we are bound by what athletics gives us. Phillip, I can also assure you that we are not paying for our trips to Las Vegas using KC funds. I hope that you enjoy watching OUR Zags get a win against two of the best teams in the West Coast Conference and I encourage you to voice your suggestions to us in person. Find us and voice your opinion, perhaps that is a better forum than on a blog that is meant for the support of our team, and not the tearing down of fellow fans.
