Golden State Of Mind Local media

I was on my way into work this morning and I heard the radio host on 1050 AM talking about how it's important for local media outlets to be critical of the local sports franchises in order for them to improve from year to year and hold the front offices accountable. I only heard the end of what he was saying, but I couldn't help but think of the Warriors.

Aside from fan posts on sites like this, the Warriors don't ever really receive criticism from the local media outlets like KNBR. The morning hosts (Murph and Mac) don't really seem like they know much about basketball, Radnich barely talks sports half the time, Fitz is too much of a homer and overly optimistic about the future of this team (even though the future is what we always seem to hang our hats on year after year after year after year...), the razor and Mr T. are too friendly with Nellie and the razor is only critical of the Giants and the Niners.

The Warriors are consistently in the background behind the Niners and Giants in the Bay Area and they often skate by without much criticism. We always hope for the future, which is fine, but the radio host had a great point that teams in Boston and New York are always relevant and good teams because their media outlets are not afraid to criticize the local teams and ownership responds.

I love the Dubs and I just hope one day we can be relevant again. Our We Believe era is looking kind of ridiculous when you think about it because it was one fluke year. We were relevant for one season. After years of failing to do anything, we had one great year (which we won one round!?). We need to be in the playoffs consistently. The ownership skates by because we love the Dubs and we're great fans who show support.

We need the likes of KNBR to step up and call it like it is. Call out the ownership more often and put some pressure on the Cohan and Co. to make us a team who's relevant in the NBA.

Golden State Of Mind Rowell is ruining the Warriors

Robert Rowell has struck again. His latest move: firing Mully’s right-hand man, Pete D’Alessandro. It’s really unfortunate Rowell is getting so involved with all the basketball decisions. I can’t remember hearing about this guy in the past and all of sudden he’s flexing his power and it’s disappointing. It’s like we had some success and now he wants to be recognized and show people he’s got the power.

Rowell apparently vetoed the deal that would have re-signed Baron, he’s straining the Warriors’ relationship with Monta, forcing Mully out, extending Nellie (which I like, but fear Nellie wants to retire to Hawaii soon anyway), and hopes to extend Captain Jack. I like Captain Jack, but at 30 y/o I don’t think it would be the best move to resign him to a long-term deal.

Mully has made his mistakes in some of the deals he’s made (Dun/Murph, Foyle, Fisher), but let’s not forget that he also brought the most success to the Warriors in a long time with the Baron trade and the Al/Captain Jack trade and the obvious playoff upset over the Mavs. Some of his draft moves have been questionable, but it was also under Mully’s watch when we selected Monta in the second round.

I fear the Warriors are heading down a bad road. Yes, we have intriguing young talent, but we also need to create an identity as an organization – one that regularly goes to the playoffs, has a face to hang our hat for years to come like Mully or hopefully Monta and Biedrins. I don’t like what’s going on in the Warriors front office and I especially don’t like how we never hear from Cohan or Rowell.

It’s as though the Warriors front office is content with being a sub-par NBA team. I don’t see a commitment to winning with this organization and it’s totally frustrating. I love the Dubs, but just want to see progress, commitment, a winning culture, stability in the front office, and maybe even the playoffs for a few years in a row. We we’re almost there the last few seasons, but we need to be a team that can contend to make the playoffs regularly.
