Woj: Maxiell has reached an agreement with ORL

Woj: Clippers to sign Wrong DeJaun

Summers is averaging 18.0 PPG and 7.6 RPG in for Maine in the D-League.

Ilitch: "Maybe we'll have [Victor Martinez] in August"

Ilitch also tells Drew Sharp (in so many words) that he has no plans to replace Leyland or Dombrowski.

Roy Oswalt signs with Texas Rangers

"The length and terms of the deal with Oswalt could not be determined. He is likely to make a few minor-league starts before joining the Rangers."

Rosenthal: Indians to sign Johnny Damon

Deal includes a full no-trade clause and an out clause that will allow him to leave once Grady Sizemore returns. Interesting. Bumped. --Rob

Roscoe's back, this time with the Lakers

I have to say, it will be stranger to see Rasheed in a Lakers uniform than it was to see him in Celtics duds.

Oswalt signs with Cardinals

I don't think anybody really expected that he'd end up in Detroit after the report from last week, but it's evidently a done deal that he's going to St. Louis.

Rasheed Wallace mulling over NBA return

Wallace, who retired after 15 seasons in 2010, has been working out and probing some close league friends about possible destinations to sign for the rest of the season, sources said. At 6-foot-11, Wallace, 37, had been one of the most versatile and talented power forwards of his era. One league source who has talked with Wallace recently describes him as "serious" about a return to the NBA this season. Nevertheless, no teams contacted by Yahoo! Sports reported that they had any contact with Wallace, or his representative.

Doctors appointed to evaluate Corwin Brown: Football head trauma at root of case, attorney says.

Former Notre Dame assistant football coach Corwin Brown will be evaluated by two doctors as part of his insanity defense plea, which his lawyer says is connected to head injuries received during his football playing days. St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Jane Woodward Miller appointed a psychiatrist and a psychologist to evaluate Brown, who is accused of accused of striking his wife and confining her inside their Granger home while he was armed with a deadly weapon. Police staged outside for nearly seven hours before Brown shot himself in the stomach and surrendered, according to court documents.

My grandma pitches her ideas to improve the Tigers

My grandma is 83 years old, but she watches virtually every Tigers game and is as passionate as anyone about the team. I received a letter from her today detailing some of the ways she feels the...

A Taiwanese animation breaking down the current state of the NBA lockout. This video does not reflect particularly well on the Pistons.

Brad Thomas: Michael Cuddyer ‘saved our lives’ on 9/11

"Ten years ago, Thomas was pitching for the Minnesota Twins' Double-A affiliate in New Britain (Conn.). The Rock Cats were in the Eastern League playoffs, playing the Norwich Navigators in a best-of-five series. Had New Britain lost the series, Thomas would've flown home to his native Australia. The first part of his flight was from Boston to Los Angeles, scheduled for Sept. 11. He had a ticket on American Airlines Flight 11, one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center." Via Big League Stew, as written by the venerable Mr. Casselberry.

So, do you believe you will lead the NBA in blocks? "I do." Will you lead the NBA in blocks? "Yes." Can you lead the NBA in rebounding? "Yes, I will." You will lead the NBA in rebounding? "Yes. Of course. Hundred percent.

Bismark Biyombo, speaking on BLOCKS and REBOUNDS (but not DUNKS, unfortunately)

Who is Bismack Biyombo?

Chad Ford profiles Bismack. From the article: "Said one GM: 'He can play in the NBA right now. If you understand what he is and what he isn't, and you're OK with that, then I think he's a very safe pick. Defense helps win championships. Ben Wallace and Tyson Chandler don't score, but they help their teams in so many ways. If you value defense, length and drive, I think it's hard not to like him. Maybe love him.'"

Why Tom Gores is not really buying the Detroit Pistons

"That's right: The Detroit Pistons are about to become the first NBA franchise to be owned by a private equity fund. Not by flesh-and-blood individuals who made their fortunes in private equity (like the Boston Celtics or Golden State Warriors), but by a $2.75 billion financial vehicle. What that means is that this the Pistons are about to become an investment, not a labor of love. Something bought for the purpose of later being sold, not to keep in the Michigan-loving family for generations."

Cliff Lee to the Phillies

Supposedly a five year deal for about $100 million. Halladay/Lee/Oswalt/Hamels. Wow.

Padres acquire Cameron Maybin for two relievers.

The Marlins continue cleaning house on they players they brought in with the Cabrera/Willis trade. Miller got traded the other day, Maybin is now gone, too. Padres send back right-handed relievers Ryan Webb and Edward Mujica in the deal.

Jon Miller, Joe Morgan out at ESPN

ESPN declined to renew Morgan's contract. Miller still has the option of calling ESPN's radio broadcasts, but will not be on television for the network anymore.

BDL: Dwyer on the Pistons this season

He has them at 19-63. "Even with improved health, what does this team do well? ... When you look at the Pistons' roster, what really stands out is that, well, nothing really stands out. There seems to be no elite player in their rotation, no real star to speak of, but also no bottom-feeding scrubs -- a collection of slightly above-average, average and slightly below-average players."

Illitch will buy the Pistons

"Ilitch, who already owns the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers, has opened negotiations to purchase the Pistons and Palace Sports & Entertainment from Karen Davidson, the Free Press has learned." ... "Ilitch has stated his interest in a new downtown arena to house the Red Wings, but the economic climate has made using public dollars for an arena a tough sell. With the Palace, Ilitch would have a place to move the Wings until a new arena is built."

Midland Daily News - Keep/Cut for 2011

A MDN article about what the Tigers should do with their roster for the 2011 season. Among the writer's suggestions: Trade Porcello TRADE Maggs in a package deal with Boesch Cut Valverde Needless to say, it's a real gem of an article.

Cliff Lee close to being traded to the Yankees

Apparently, the Yanks are offering C Jesus Montero and other prospects for Lee. However, this IS the New York Post that we're talking about (this is the second-hottest trending story on their site, just after one entitled "No, Lindsay, it's time you 'F' yourself") so take this with a grain of salt. All the previous chatter had the Twins as Lee's strongest suitor, so this is... better?

Rangers Call Up 1B Smoak

Texas called up their top prospect, Justin Smoak, just in time for the series with the Tigers. Smoak was #23 on Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects. Good hitter, LOTS of power. He'll be their starting first baseman.

Cabrera says he is not an alcoholic.

"You guys write in the paper 'alcoholic,' that's not right... I don't know how to explain, but it's not an alcohol problem." Sounds like he and Leyland think it was more of a maturity problem than a problem with alcohol.

Miguel Cabrera received treatment for alcoholism.

ESPN is reporting that Miggy spent three months in a treatment program after the season ended.
