I am originally from Hamilton,Ohio and anybody that has ever been there knows there's more hillbillies there than in the great state of KY. We moved to N. Ky my sophmore year and I still consider Kentucky home. I went to Dixie Heights H.S. in Ft. Mitchell. I had the chance to go to UK on a full grant but knew I enjoyed the party life to much and probably would not of came out alive. I lived just four doors down from Cecil New and even though I was 8 I still remember when he signed with UK and the tragic accident that followed. I had the pleasure of watching Kevin Grevey play his high school ball there for Hamilton Taft. I was 12 his senior year and when he signed at UK I was hooked. I live in Lakeland, Florida now and keep up with the Wildcats religiously. My wife is a true Kentucky girl being born in Harlen Co. and also attended Dixie. She is a 1980 graduate of Western KY.

Urban Meyer Resigns
Claiming health and family as the reasons, Urban Meyer announced he is resigning as the Gator coach after the Sugar Bowl. He said he will stay involved at the university and also remain in Gainesville.
When Rick Pitino resigned at UK after the 1997 season I was hitting balls on the driving range and somebody asked kind of sarcastically, what would UK do without Pitino. I looked at them and said point blank, Pitino will not be the last coach to win a title at UK. Of course little did I know that Tubby would win one for us the very next year.
Florida football certainly doesn't have the pedigree that UK basketball does, but I feel comfortable that Urban Meyer won't be the last coach to win a title for the Gator football program. It is without a doubt one of the top college jobs in the country along with Oklahoma, USC, Texas, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, and I guess Notre Dame.
Kentucky basketball has been competitive for 70 years where Florida football has been very strong for only about 20 years. There are a few reasons Florida was able to turn the football program around. The first thing the school did was to start raising money for the football program. Charlie Pell gets the credit for that according to the well informed Gators that I know. But the biggest thing that happened for them was the population explosion that happened in the state. Steve Spurrier was a good selection to eventually lead the program but in my opinion it was also a good thing that he chose to leave. Of course the Ron Zook fiasco was similar to the BG era for us. Then here comes Urban Meyer and you know what he has accomplished.
I am not sure who is going to get the Florida job, but Mullin looks very attractive to me. It won't be Strong in my opinion, but Stoops might finally be ready to leave Oklahoma and come back to Florida. It is kind of nice to see Tebow and Meyer gone though.
For Those That Complain
For those that complain to Ken and Tru about the lack of football info on here, I have a suggestion for you. START YOUR OWN BLOG. I think it is safe to say that this blog was originally going to be about basketball and maybe, just maybe some football. Since we started winning some at football, they have added more about the pigskin. Maybe JL or Tru can let us know what the original intentions were. I enjoy both UK BB and FB, but I do not think I have a right to complain what somebody puts on their free site. It is Tru's blog, and it is all Tru's blog. You don't see Tru or Ken writing articles about the baseball team, the golf team, or any other teams, do you? So instead of complaining about the coverage or lack there of, or to much basketball coverage, there is a very simple solution, now isn't there? It is not easy doing a daily blog at all. We are fortunate to have Tru and Ken writing as much as they do. It gets real old hearing the same old BS from a couple of you.
Why John Calipari was the best choice
There is no love affair between John Calipari and Rick Pitino. If Pitino stays at Louisville, the rivalry with UK is going to kick up like never before.
