"I watched his fight with Ed Herman, and I saw some things that I think I can capitalize on. I saw a few instances where he would shoot in, and if I could strategically place a banana peel in his way as he's shooting in, maybe he'd go ahead and slip and I could get the top position and take over from there. I'm going to try and capitalize on things like that."

MMA as perceived by Penny Arcade:

"We rented a slew of videos and prepared ourselves for displays of incredible prowess. I don't know what we were expecting, exactly, some Wing Chun shit perhaps, but the matches we saw tended to follow a very specific pattern:

1. One dude, let's call him "He Who Is About To Lose," tries to rock some Wing Chun shit.
2. The other dude grabs this leg, and proceeds to bend his opponent's body into a shape we no longer recognize as human.

Reference the comic above for a detailed analysis of the rest of the match. Part of it is almost certainly that we (this is the greater, gamer-encompassing we, but also anyone who watches movies ever) have a somewhat warped idea of what human bodies can tolerate in terms of hit points. Even by those standards, we were not prepared to see how short the distance is from Point A to Point B, where Point A is a human specimen in peak condition and Point B is a wholly sundered being."

I had a lot of fun, and it definitely helped me relax my mind and forget about my loss on January 24. But when were shooting, I asked, 'Listen, John, c'mon, let's do something - I want to be the No. 1 guy in the movie,' because the No.1 guy is [Jean Claude] Van Damme, and I said, 'I want to kill him.' And he said, 'Well, you know, I'm sorry but you're No. 2 because Fedor beat you on January 24.' He made fun of that, but it's kind of like he reminded me, and for a couple of days, I was in a bad mood because of that.

Frank Mir said he thought that spinning back elbow you tried was an indication that you were taking Mike lightly. Do you think there's some truth in that?

No. I don't really think too much during my fights, so it's not like I was thinking, "Oh, Mike Brown's not too tough, I'll just throw a back elbow." It was more like I just bounced off the cage, I could see Mike out of the corner of my eye coming toward me, and I tried a sneak attack and just got caught.

I feel that, not to take anything away from him, in a stand up game, in a wrestling game, in a jiu jitsu game, I feel like I have the edge in all of those. But he’s going to go 15 minutes hard. I have only gone to a decision once in my career and that was only an amateur fight – a ten-minute fight – so I’ve never gone 15. The longest I have ever gone is seven and a half because I like finishing fights.

Dave Kaplan interviewed by Las Vegas Weekly, discussing his illustrious career and his opponent, George Roop.

Bloody Elbow Undisputed 2009: Best Buy counters Gamestop with three-part deal

F_ufcmoviegiftcard_090517_2_medium

Best Buy's current deal for UFC Undisputed 2009 (360 or PS3) is a $10 Best Buy giftcard, a $10 pay-per-view coupon, and a free UFC DVD (your choice of 11).

The deal is available online and in-store.

The deal is only available on bestbuy.com and doesnt include in-store pickup. So you will have to both pay for shipping, and wait a few days past the release date (probably too much to ask if you were planning on being at your local gamestop at midnight).  But for those with some patience, this is a pretty good deal.  And of course, you'll have to wait 6 months to download Bader and Escudero.

Update: thetakeover and his best buy print ad are unstoppable.
