Turf Show Times Offseason Moves

The Rams have many holes in their offense and defense this year, which was expected. The FO will need to have a successful 2011 offseason, like 2009 and 2010, to keep this team going in the right direction. Looking ahead, these players would really help us win and they are realistic possibilities.

WR- Sidney Rice. Sidney Rice is still young and would obviously give us a great number 1 wr.

DT- Barry Cofield. He would start right next to his old teamate Fred Robbins. He might not be the best DT, but he has been very productive in the NFL.

DE- Mathias Kiwanuka. Another ex-Giant who would be teamed up with Spags again. The Giants have 3 other great d ends so I don't see them resigning him. If it wasn't for injuries, he'd be one of the better d ends in the league.

Draft:

With where we are sitting now, we would be drafting around the 20 spot. I would like us to trade down and pick up an extra pick. If we got the 3 players above, our first 3 picks in the draft should be OG, LB, RB, in any order. In the later rounds I would then pick up a SS, another OG, and another OLB.

Turf Show Times Vernon Davis (Insider)

Vernon could wind up a free agent

5:02PM ET Vernon Davis | 49ers Top

Following the big deal doled out by the San Francisco 49ers to ILB Patrick Willis, we wondered whether this would cause the Carolina Panthers to ante up on a new deal for their own star LB, Jon Beason.

But there was some thought that perhaps another Niner would get a massive cash prize, too. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter tweeted, "And next up on a big payday for the 49ers -- TE Vernon Davis." ESPN NFC West blogger Mike Sando concurred.

However, on Wednesday, Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News tweeted that there could be a complication: "NFL source: 49ers' long-term $$ basicallly was either/or between Willis & Vernon Davis. Willis got it. So Davis could be F/A next March." Kawakami also points out that the team has to budget for a new QB in 2011, either Alex Smith, a draft pick or a veteran free agent. Any of those options will likely be pricey.

Turf Show Times Rams Mock

1          QB                  Sam Bradford                       Oklahoma

                                - The Rams need a QB… ’nough said.

2          TE                   Jermaine Gresham              Oklahoma

- Daniel Fells is not a starting TE and past him there is no one. TE is just as important as WRs in a West Coast Offense. Gresham will also help protect Bradford and they were a great tandem in college.

3          OLB                Navorro Bowman                 Penn State

- The Rams don’t have a starter at the WLB position. Bowman would be an immediate starter for the team. He’s a first round talent but will probably slip to the Rams with the first pick of the 3rd Round.

4          DE                  Ricky Sapp                              Clemson

- Sapp is another great talent that will possibly drop in the draft because of knee injuries. With the exception of Chris Long, who will benefit greatly with a younger faster pass rusher, the Rams have all rotational players. Sapp could easily be the 4th immediate starter drafted by the Rams.

5          OT                  Sam Young                            Notre Dame

- Alex Barron is obviously not in the Ram’s future plans. Jason Smith will probably get moved to LT this year moving Barron to RT. Sam Young was a great prospect for the first part of the college season, but he completely dropped off the radar with a terrible second half. He can be the Rams future RT because he has shown that he has the skills to be one after starting all 4 years of college at RT for the Irish.

5          RB                  LeGarrette Blount                Oregon

- This pick all depends on Blount’s attitude. Blount was one of the best RBs going into last season and this year he would have been an early round pick. We know that he can be great if his work ethic and attitude changes. He is perfect for the West Coast Offense and would be a great future backup for SJ.

6          OLB                Keaton Kristick                    Oregon State

- Although Bowman has been taken, more depth will be needed at the LB position. David Vobora had a very good season at SLB and he should only improve.

7          SS                    T.J. Ward                              Oregon

- James Butler is a decent SS. If he were to go down, though, there is no one to fill in for him. Dahl is a good backup for Atogwe, but depth is needed at SS.

7          DE                  Alex Daniels                           Cincinnati

- The Rams are very old and thin at DE. A young backup will be needed once the older rotational players retire.

7          OG                  Cory Howard                          Georgia Tech

- The Rams don’t have many true OGs on their team. Hank Fraley was a great signing, but he is probably past his prime and will need a successor.

Turf Show Times Unlikely, But Anything Can Happen

From ESPN Insider:

Despite the apparent interest, however, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter doesn't think the Browns have the will or the way to trade up to the No. 1 overall pick, where Bradford is likely to be taken:

Adam Schefter

Trade with Rams seems unlikely

"The cost of going up is going to be prohibitive, and while Cleveland would love a chance to get Bradford, it's going to be awfully hard to pull it off. It would probably take next year's No. 1 pick as well as this year's No. 1 pick -- and maybe some other goodies -- to be able to trade up to get Bradford."

With all of the needs the Rams have, with Sam Bradford's shoulder, with Jimmy Clausen's foot, and with the problem of not wanting to give a DT first pick money, I am all in favor of trading the first pick.  We have seen many teams trade up on draft day to get their franchise QB and hopefully the same thing happens this year. The Seahawks could be a nice trade partner with 2 first round picks and the Browns are always an option with new management. The 1st Overall pick would just be too much money for the Rams to handle. With a the 6th or the 7th pick, I would hope that Russell Okung would drop to us. With the Seahawks first 2 picks and later picks, I would take either an OT (Okung) and then either a DE or Spiller. Spiller would add another dimension to the Rams. Jackson and Spiller together would be by far the best tandem in the league. Then in 2011, our Franchise QB. With the Browns picks (read below). This year LT (Okung) and next year our QB and with the Browns pick a WR (AJ Green, Michael Floyd, Julio Jones). Okung at RT or LT, Jason Brown at C, and Jason Smith at RT or LT would become a great young offensive line. Hopefully this year Gresham falls to us in the second round. If not Sergio Kindle sounds like a great pick. I think that for a trade to happen we would also get the teams 3rd round pick. I would use this on a d lineman.

St. Louis Game Time Lines 2010-2011

The Blues have to go younger next season. The farm system has so many great players that the Blues need to give them a shot. There are too many players on the team currently that are "just there" and do not make a positive impact on this team. I would like to see the Blues trade for a young goalie that Conklin can back up. There will be a need for a LW in the off season, but for now:

David Perron - David Backes - T.J. Oshie

Lars Eller - Patrik Berglund - Andy McDonald

Alex Steen - Jay McClement - Brad Boyes

DJ King - Brandon Crombeen - Matt D'Agostini

-------- Brett Sonne --------

Erik Johnson - Alex Pietrangelo

Ian Cole -  Jonas Junland

Barret Jackman - Roman Polak

----- Mike Weaver ------

Turf Show Times Trade Down

The Seahawks obviously want a franchise QB, but they clearly don't have the line to support one. On draft day, I can see the Seahawks trading the #6 pick to the Rams for the #1 pick. This way the Seahawks can get their franchise QB (Bradford or Clausen) and then with the 14th pick get their starting LT. This trade allows the Rams to get out of the 1st pick so they don't have to pay that huge salary. This is how I see the trade happening: Rams get #6, 2nd Rounder, and 4th Rounder and the Seahwaks get the #1 pick. I think that if Bryan Bulaga is still there at #6, you take him. The Rams line would be set for years with Jason Smith at LT or RT, Buluga at LT or RT, and Jason Brown at C. We also won't have to watch Alex Barron record the most penalties in the league and we get to drop his contract. Almost all of the good teams in this league have good a offensive line. With the extra picks, I would go all offensive. We get young offensive players and let them play for one year to get their feet wet. Then in 2011, you get your Franchise QB (Locker, Mallet, Luck). We will have experience to help out our QB.

6th Pick (1): Bryan Bulaga OT

33rd Pick (2): Germaine Gresham TE

40th Pick (2): Jahvid Best RB

65th Pick (3): Demaryius Thomas WR

96th Pick (4): Dekoda Watson OLB

101st Pick (4): Mike Johnson OG

127th Pick (5): Daniel Te'o-Nesheim DE

Turf Show Times How about this possibility?

The Rams will need a big time target for there franchise quarterback (Sam Bradford) next year. The Rams have the 1st pick of the second round and if Gresham falls, the Rams could reunite Bradford and Gresham. But, I would rather have a proven talent then a guy with upside. So how about this possibility: The Rams trade their 2nd Round pick and their 5th round pick to the Saints for their 1st Round pick and their 5th round pick. We would move up 1 pick and they would move up 30 picks in the 5th round. We already have the Eagles 5th rounder because we traded Will Witherspoon to them. Now with the 32nd pick of the first round the Rams can give that pick up to Denver for Brandon Marshall.

Turf Show Times Steven Jackson

A recent post has stated that when the Rams ever become decent, Steven Jackson will be out of his prime and his value and production will drop dramatically. I agree with that completely. The San Diego Chargers just released LaDainian Tomlinson ande now are making Darren Sproles a FA. Who will be their RB next year? CJ Spiller will be gone way before their first round pick. In my opinion the Chargers are right on the verge of winning the Super Bowl. But if they have inexperienced RBs they don't have a chance at winning. I would be willing to trade Steven Jackson to them. They only have minor needs on their team and with Jackson they would be deadly. The Chargers get Jackson and maybe the Rams 4th and the Rams get the Chargers 1st and 2nd Round picks.

Golden Tate / Arrelious Benn / Jahvid Best

Ryan Matthews / Lamarr Houston

St. Louis Game Time Kovalchuck

With the salary that the Blues will be dumping for next season, Kariya, Tkachuck, and hopefully Brewer, the Blues should have enough money to sign Ilya Kovalchuck in FA. I know that he would have to want to come here to sign with us because many other teams will be offering. But, with the young talent that we have I think he would want to play for us. Think we can sign him? Think he would want to come here? Kovalchuck, Backes, and Oshie sounds like a good line.

Turf Show Times Would Could the Rams get for...?

It seems like the Rams have been struggling to get a long term deal finalized with OJ Atogwe. Many can argue that he is the best player on our defense, now I would have to say James Lauranitis, but why won't the Rams give him a long term deal? Could this be the year the OJ is traded? Would it be a could idea to trade him? My question is what could the Rams get in return for OJ Atogwe?

Turf Show Times Julius Peppers

If the Buccaneers didn't win their last two games of the season, they would clearly being takign Suh which they think extremely highly of. Even though they have the third pick, don't they still want him? If the Bucs were to offer the 3rd pick and their third round pick for the 1st overall pick, I would take it, for two reasons.

First, the Rams have so many needs on their team that they need to address. An extra third round pick could really benefit the Rams. You could get an offensive talent like McCluster with that extra pick.

Mainly though, we wouldn't have to pay the huge salary that goes along with drafting the number 1 pick. At the number three pick we could get the franchise qb, either bradford or clausen. I don't know what the contract would be for one of them, but im guessing between 20-30 million. Now with that extra money the Rams could go after a pass rusher in free agency. Just throwing it out their but: Julius Peppers. His contract plus the contract of our future qb would be around the same price that you would have to pay getting Suh or McCoy number 1 overall. And you solve 2 HUGE needs. Jullius Peppers and Chris Long at DEs could become one of the best tandems in the league.

Turf Show Times Biggest Draft Needs? Poll

What are the two positions that we need to adress in the first two rounds of the draft? Many mock drafts have us taking Suh first and a QB in the second round. Others have us taking a QB in the first round and a OLB in the second. Keeping free agency in mind, I would take Suh and a OLB, DE, or Best. A tandem of Jackson and Best would be deadly. I would also love to have Spoon out of Mizzou on our team, to boulster up our defense after we get Vick.

Turf Show Times Ram's Triple Option

Why is the Triple Option not used in the NFL? With Vick, could the Rams used it?

I have seen the talk about the Rams getting Vick and possibly getting Brandon Marshall. We have no reason to give up the number 1 pick to get Brandon Marshall. We can take Suh, the best person in the draft. I feel like there are no proven quarterbacks in this draft, so I think we should get Vick. He is a proven talent who will sell many tickets. We need to use his best ability to the fullest and that is running. So if you use him in a formation where he can run or hand it off then he should be successful. Many people think that NFL defenses would be took quick for this formation. But, when you compare the offense talent at Navy to an NFL team, there is a huge difference and everyone is two steps quicker. Defenses are better, but offenses are too. You could get very creative with this and if Tim Tebow were to fall you could take him and put him in the formation. The strengths of the Rams offense are the Steven Jackson and most of the line. The weaknesses are our receivers, which have potential, and our QB, which could be temporarily solved by Vick. The Browns also do not want Cribs and he could easily be put into this offense. If we use our strengths on offense and bulk up our defense in this draft and I think the team could be successful, if we get Vick.
