I'm a shameless homer when it comes to my favorite sports teams, most notably Michigan State football and basketball. I may be new to posting on SB nation, but I've been a reader for years.
Given the timing of my official joining of SB nation, I would like to assert that I am not a bandwagon fan... just maybe a bandwagon blogger. More on that later.
I root for my teams the same if their 6-0 or 0-6. I don't know how that affects how good a fan I am, but I do know it makes me terrible at prognosticating. Years of being a Lions fan has taught me that hard truth, though to be fair it's also true when my teams have been successful as well.
For example, every time MSU makes the NCAA basketball tournament, it's a sure thing they will be inked in as national champions on my bracket. It doesn't matter to me whether they're seeded 1 or 12... there's no way I could ever bring myself to pick another team. It's a darn good thing I don't gamble. Even in 2000 when MSU did win it all, I lost my recreational pool handily.
Go Green! Go White!
I am a new Redskins fan… ever since they drafted one of my all time favorite college players: Kirk Cousins. From an extremely biased MSU fan’s perspective, I think Washington made a great...
For all you stat guys, a fellow Spartan fan, alvion, is posting conference FEI stats over at OTE. Also check out his first post here for a primer.
(This may count as two posts too many about aggregate Sangarin rankings, but I did promise a Big 12/Big Ten comparison, so here it is.) Was the Big 12 a stronger conference than the Big Ten? Yes it...
[BH: Bumped because I like multi-color graphs with my coffee] In the Big Ten football, Ohio State is king, and has been for years. Postulating who amongst their Big Ten brethren are also elite in...
(Bump. Links in a few and more on basketball recruiting tonight, but for now enjoy some good data, including Michigan's drop off. -- Pete) This is my own post, but I put it on Off Tackle Empire because its scope covers the conference. Apologies in advance... it's way too long. I tried to be objective... MSU finished in the middle of the pack.
Nebraska officially joined the Big Ten today. Welcome. However this post is about math. It is for any who would mock our conference for being mathematically challenged for being unable to count...
(Bump for saying the things I wanted to say with research -- Pete) Just thought I'd let y'all know I posted a fan post over at offtackleempire with a perspective on among other things, the improvement in recruiting by Dantonio over John L. Smith.
[BH - Bumped. It's still Spartans Week, and this does have a lot to do with their resurgence] Yesterday on the Michigan-State-Potluck thread there was some discussion about recruiting stars vs...
(Bump. I'll have a post on Evan in the next day or so. One more thing -- If you're going to disparage recruits without seeing them in action, that's a good way to get banned. -- Pete) From rivals.yahoo.com: "On Saturday, West Lafayette (Ohio) Ridgewood tight end/defensive end Evan Jones added his name to Michigan State's future roster..." This is MSU's fourth verbal commitment to date.
From mlive.com: Chris Laneaux, an all-state safety at Portage Northern will join the 2011 football class as a preferred walk on.
