Sheed is a Celtic, committing to a two-year deal at the mid-level. I believe contracts can be signed on July 8.

From the Globe, quoting an "NBA Source"...who appears to be Mark Murphy of the Herald

An NBA source said tonight forward Rasheed Wallace has committed to sign with the Celtics Wednesday, the first day free agents are eligible to sign.

"Once (Wallace) had a chance to reflect on everything, and realizing what his objectives are, he just decided this was the best fit for him, all the way around," said Bill Strickland, Wallace's agent.

Wallace is expected to receive a two-year deal using the mid-level exception (expected to be about $5.6 million to $5.8 million).

The Celtics All-Star trio of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce, owner Wyc Grousbeck, coach Doc Rivers, and president Danny Ainge met with Wallace last week. Wallace turned down overtures from Orlando and San Antonio to commit to Boston.

Good lookin' out by JohnnyRondo who spotted that Sheed's agent was on CSN tonight around 10pm. Check out the forums thread for a recap.

As Jeff mentioned earlier today, Roy Hobbs is at MSG tonight . He's updating me with some behind the scenes commentary via text message (if its good enough for DA and Spears, txting will work for Roy and me too).

I [Roy Hobbes] was on TV, in front of the guys with the Israeli flag

Word is that Rubio is staying in Minn and Hill will stay with the Knicks

Lots of talk linking the Knicks and the Wolves but Lawson just traded to the Nuggets.

Jrue Holiday finally picked. He looks upset. Last guy in the green room although there are other guys here.

Rumor via Slam is Nate Rob + Hill for Rubio. Would have to be after July 8.

The Cats shock the world and pick...Gerald Henderson, local college product. DeJaun and Jrue are Jslippin

SVG's under-eye bags are visible from 50 feet. No one on the ESPN talks to Stu Scott (which sounds about right to me).

Nets fans seem happy with Williams. Someone in press row is ripping through some pickled sausages. Insert sportswriter & food joke here.

This one is from me, not Roy. The Nets just sent me an email announcing the VC trade with the following ridiculous headline: "Three Conference Champs join the Nets with VC trade?"....now that's spin!

Jennings to the Bucks. Possibly meaning Sessions could be available as a backup for the Cs?

Murmur in press row is Hill may move to Minny...maybe the Knicks can get Ricky after all?

Agony for Knicks fans. Someone just called Hill "another Mikki Moore"

A press release is circulating with the MSM writers....maybe a trade?

Likely Knicks fan to Roy: "Did the Wolves get your pick in the Telfair trade?

Knicks fans are getting giddy with the thought of Rubio in NYC....and now are devistated. If Curry goes before #8, someone put a watch on the bridges tonight...ahh Knick fans.

Shock that the Thunder pass on Rubio. Shock!

Thabeet (the #2 pick) is a foot taller than everyone in the green room.

Highlight so far. Meeting Steve Weinman, who is interning for the NBA this summer. Almost as good, Wilbon nearly knocked Roy (Hobbs) down to hug Roy (Williams).

Roy is on the scene. The first report is that that he's rubbing elbows with the prospects while they enjoy some chicken fingers. Presumably said chicken fingers are curtosey of D.Stern.

Danny spoke to the media today, selected quotes via the Celtics Twitter Feed:

"This opportunity is unique. We have an opportunity to win with this team we have. We don't want to jeopardize that for the future."

"I'm not sure why his is popping up, but we love Rajon. It doesn't seem like you have to have any source any more (to report rumors)."

"I've heard speculation we're dissatisfied with him; we're gonna trade him because he was late for a playoff game? That's not true."

"Most of the players in the first round I wouldn't trade for J.R. Giddens or Bill Walker..."

"The free agent mid-level talent pool is fairly deep, but based on our needs it may not be that deep."

Bigger SWAGs and Unreasonable Predictions

          More photos »

          by Paul Connors - AP

Here's wishing the Suns will buy Steve out and he'll sign with the Celtics....

Browse more photos »

Jeff kicked of the morning with some reasonable guesses and mild SWAGs. I went the other route in the spirit of the old Conan gag - in the Year 2000, what follows are some much wilder guesses, unfortunately I don't have LaBamba singing that creepy interlude between comments.

The Suns decide that they should build around Amare Stoudemire and buyout Steve Nash (do they not realize that Nash is 46 years old?). Steve signs with Celts to backup Rajon Rondo. Ok that's a crazy wish. Even crazier, Nash plays tremendous on-the-ball defense.

A ticked off Celtics team opens the season with a 24 and 0 stretch, losing its first game in Charlotte when Ray Allen misses the game to speak at the UN.

Kevin Garnett strains his neck slamming his head into the basket stantion before tipoff at a game in February. He has to sit for two games to recover. Thereafter the Celtics start taping a pillow to the stantion at home games.

For economic reasons, the Wolves trade Ryan Gomes to the Celtics for Scal plus our pick. No idea if that works cap wise tough - someone who likes playing with the trade machine can figure it out and tell me its wrong I'm sure.

One of Ariza Odom and Hedo will wear a new uni next year.

The economy crushes many teams. Big sellers are: Nets, Pacers, Bucks, Wolves, Warriors, Spurs, Suns and Wiz.

Chris Wallace does something dumb (not that wild I suppose).

The Suns trade Shaq to the Cavs. The new team starts off fantastically well, until Shaq accidently hurts Mo and Delonte while posing for a fake pregame picture, taking out the Cavs entire back court for the rest of the season.

Rondo eats hotwings before every home game and for the season averages a double-double...in assists and boards.

No one wants to pay Shawn Marion in this market. He swallows some serious pride, signs with the Celtics for the MLE for 1-year and comes off the bench. The 5-man lineup of Rajon, Pierce, Marion, KG and Perk does not allow an offensive rebound all season.

Pierce tweets that he will opt out and play for $7m per year next season.

The NBA forces Derrick Rose to take the SATs on live on TNT. He gets a 400. The penalty is that the Chuckster shaves off Derrick's dumb stache and that he has to wear a dunce cap during the 1st quarter of every game in February.

Phil Jax retires to teach yoga in New Mexico. JVG becomes the new Laker coach. Jeff promptly gets his own reality show.

First coach fired: Larry Frank (who I think is actually a decent coach, he just has a lousy team)

Blazers fans overrate their team.

Add your own in the comments (I'm sure Po will be good at this).

Wow - I can't believe I just wrote that. The Cavs' bigs sure did make Perk's effort on Dwight look even more incredible than we all knew it was.

However, this is definitely bittersweet, the Celtics surely had their chances against the now dominant Magic, they just could not get it done. The Cavs on the other hand were pretty much dominated this series.

The key to stopping the Magic is being able to cover Dwight one on one and making sure you stay with their shooters. I have no idea if Bynum can man up Howard, I tend to think no.

Hats off to the Magic for taking yet another step. Welcome to the show. And....

BEAT LA!

LeBron gets points for degree of difficulty, but Baby's still got him on the celebration.

Reaction from Cavs fans (who should be nervous): Fear The Sword

Reaction from Magic fans: Third Quarter Collapse
