The scene at today's game

Several things worth mentioning after being at today's game:

- The boos rained down loudly on Street after he gave up 2 runs in the 9th inning.  Lots of four letter words uttered toward him in my section.

- At the end of the game, before the last pitch, the stadium scoreboard had the Suzuki count at 3-1.  When K-Rod struck him out to end the game, the entire crowd instead thought the count was really 3-2.  Lots of confused A's fans.

- Nothing will compare to seeing Reggie surprise a "huge" oakland crowd of 29,000 by scoring the winning run from second base.  Reggie's hustle sure silenced the drum beating crowd.

- Watching the A's players try to lay down a bunt is comical.  I'm not sure they've ever practiced that.

- After the game the oakland fans were walking out of the stadium like complete zombies.  Very little was heard on the courcourse.  It was a funeral-like atmosphere for the A's fans after the game.  Which I didn't mind one bit.

Anyway, a big win that truely exemplifies Angels' style of baseball.

Postseason Lottery

I'm sure those of you on this board that are not season ticket holders have all heard about or entered the Angel postseason ticket lottery online.  I think that they are going to annouce the results soon for the ALDS.

Anyone know about how many tickets they are going to release for this lottery?  Any idea on where those seats are going to be located?

Regardless, its a heckuva much better deal than going onto stubhub for playoff tickets, or through a scalper.

LA Times Blog Today

Well, well, well...Last night was a tough loss, for sure.

Now, at the risk of bringing up the taboo by citing this article, what does everyone think of this LA Times blog......(I mean the actual content of the blog, not the person who wrote it).

AL Contenders Strength of Schedule

Saw this on ESPN.com's Buster Olney blog today.

He broke down the strength of schedule for the reminder of the year for the main 9 "contenders" in the American League.

I'm not sure if this means anything tangible or not, but... Of the nine teams he mentioned, the Angels have the toughest schedule, including a very difficult 22 game stretch.  Of course the Red Sox and Yankees have the easiest two schedules.

Los Angeles Angels
Home games: 39 of 74
Games against teams .500 or better: 43
Biggest hurdle: From July 20 to Aug. 12, the Angels will see nothing but contenders -- 22 straight games against Minnesota, Oakland, Detroit, Seattle and Boston.
Big Finish: Six road games, with three in Texas and three in Oakland.

Jered Weaver in Cardinal Red

Does this bother anyone else?

The constant FOX shots of Jered Weaver, covered in St. Louis Cardinal gear, literally from head to freaking toe.

Maybe I'm just incensed to see that that pile of crap Jeff Weaver is winning a World freaking Series for the Cards... but it bothers me to see lil Weaver dressed up like a Cardinal.

Or maybe I should ask... what bothers you more?

Seeing Jered dressed like a Cardinal or seeing Jeff pitch 8 innings, 1 earned run, 4 hits, 9 Ks?

Fight Photos

So I come home today from the office and read all about how the little worthless pile of crap Jason Kendall tried to start something with our boy John Lackey.

I think what this team needs, given our recent slump, is a good oakland athletic ass kicking.  And who else to beat than the most overrated, over paid guy in the game, Kendall?

The big question is this:  Why don't we have a photo of Lackey kicking the crap out of this guy on this site???

We need to see this!

By the way, the guys over at Athletics Nation are claiming victory for their wuss catcher.

espn article loves stoneman

The main point from this article is that Stoneman (allegedly) won't trade any of our top prospects...

Angels general manager Bill Stoneman and his Atlanta counterpart, John Schuerholz, can remember the days before cell phones, blogs and agents made the job such a grind, and player-team relations didn't have all the tension of a "Desperate Housewives" photo shoot. But that's not why Stoneman made it a point to seek out Schuerholz for a handshake at the GM's meetings in Palm Springs in November.

Stoneman, who spent 16 years in the Montreal front office, has an appreciation for scouting and player development bordering on reverence. He believes in giving prospects a chance rather than burying them or using them as trade bait, so he took vicarious pleasure in watching Atlanta use 18 rookies on the way to a National League East title last year.

"I congratulated John on setting a really great example for all the rest of us," Stoneman said.

The Angels, by acclamation, have a farm system loaded with position-player talent. It's so deep they warrant their own section in the Baseball America Prospect Handbook. But they also play in a market where a win-now mentality prevails, and the neighboring Dodgers are getting lots of attention by transporting Yawkey Way to Chavez Ravine one player at a time.

So while Stoneman raves about the potential of Casey Kotchman, Howie Kendrick, Kendry Morales and Los Angeles' other top prospects, Angels season-ticket holders keep wondering when he's going to get serious about Manny Ramirez or another big bat to convince opponents to pitch to Vladimir Guerrero.

It might be a long wait. Stoneman held the line against Scott Boras in the Jered Weaver negotiations, and he's going out of his way to downplay Manny speculation.

Colon Told to Return to the US

This is potentially good news!

Associated Press
Posted: 14 minutes ago

SANTO DOMINGO - Although the American League Cy Young Award won't be announced until Tuesday afternoon, Major League Baseball officials asked Los Angeles Angeles right-hander Bartolo Colón to fly to the United States on Monday.

Colón himself said Monday night that the reason for the trip was not specified to him, only that a private plan would pick him up in Puerto Plata.

When will #4 be retired?

If they afford Downing the honor, which they should, then shouldn't #4 be there as well?

Personally, I woulda retired #4 before Rod Carew's number 29.  Rod's 7 years did contain two division titles, but there are several others that no doubt deserve the honor.  Salmon comes to mind, as well.
