Dear AJ,
Wow, here we are again, another August of futility coming to a close for you with the Yankees, and a second straight disappointing season with the Yankees. I wish i could say this has been a prolonged slump, a mechanical flaw gone terribly wrong, or even maybe a hidden injury. After two years though, its been difficult to watch, and at times almost statistically impossible the stretches of futility you have reached...

A Shoutout to Sanity and Reason
With a bad past 2 games for the Yankees, things do seem a little dreary this morning, not hopeless mind you, just a little on the, come-on-guys-lets-get-our-crap-together.
Just thought i would send out a few big picture thoughts for those of us frustrated by the short term after the jump

Jeter and the small sample size
Hey guys, longtime reader, occasional poster (darn work getting in the way)... So i was having a conversation with a coworker today (Orioles fan) who was asking me if i was still high on the idea that Jeter would be closer to Jeter of old (pre-2010) versus last year following his not-exactly hot start to 2011...
Thanks to the always useful fangraph, i did some digging and found some comforting news during his quiet and painful journey to 3,000 grounders hits. More after the jump

Very good article on Jeter
So i was cruising the SI pages today trying to kill some time as working as i hit the afternoon crawl and saw this good article from Joe Posnanski. Last night our man had his 3rd straight 3 hit night. After last year im sure a few of us were getting a little worried following problems with his legs and getting hit on the hand.

I like his argument of Tex vs. Jeter for AL MVP too. Mauer obviously has good reason for it, but if you only count playoff -contention teams, Jeter is up there with the best of them, offensively AND defensively. i think one of the reason why we are so blown away by Tex and think he should be in the MVP count (besides playing good baseball all around) is that we havent had a good 1B in YEARS.
So heres to Jeter getting to 3000 hits and as the years go by that we see him break stat records that havent been touched in years!
