So, December 9th is just around the corner and I wanted to gauge intrest in getting together on the 9th.

I was thinking that we can get together and exchange gifts and give thanks to all that contribute to this wonderful site. Last year we had a white elephant gift exchage that was a lot of fun. I would like to do this again. We can meet up at either Big Wangs or we can meet up at District 13 or we can look for another bar. Let me know if we still want to do this. I will be buying allof the writers that show up a pitcher of the beer of thier choice (At big Wangs) Or the 3 beers of thier choice at District 13. Meet up would be at 7:00pm so let me know if we can make this a thing. If we are doing the gift exchange I am setting the cap for the gifts at $20.00US (Not AUS or Can).

It is the time of the year that I look ahead to the holiday season, so I thought, "hey, self let's get a jump on saying thank you to the wonderful writing staff at TBLA". Now I like saying thank you with beer.

Last year we met up at Big Wangs for booze, wings, a gift exchange and a chance to say "Thank You" to the wonderful writing staff that help keep the flame buring bright for all things Dodgers. So, I want to get an early jump on setting this up again. Me being the selfish prick that I am would like to set this up in Hollywood again, but I am open to setting this up elsewhere if it is close to a major public transit hub that is accessable to all. I would also like to throw open the doors to suggestions as to which date we should hold this, and where we should hold this, if every one would like to repete the gift exchange and if so at what range should we set the value of the gifts exchanged? I for one will be putting it out that I would like to spend 100 on booze for the writers on this site. And that I would also like to partake in the gift exchange.

Last minute meet up at Big Wangs Hollywood Sept 3, 2012

OK this is really last minute, but I am bored and I have no kickball this week. So I am proposing an impromptu meet up at Big Wangs Hollywood. First pitch is at 5:10 and we should be able to find some table space there. Big Wangs, hollywood location, 1562 n. cahuenga blvd., hollywood ca 90028, this is close to the red line for those of you that wish to make use of public transpo, and there is valet service. Street parking can be a bear to find in this area. Also, we don't have to stay at Wangs, there is District 13 and Stout in the same strip mall. There is also a gastropub 3 blocks from there that has really good beer on tap. I would do this on the 17th but it is not a public holiday that every one has off. And yes I am throwing the 17th out there as an alternate date, it will give us time to let everybody respond and there is no dodger game that night, but there is Monday night football, so getting table space would be interesting.

As you all know I have a prior post asking all of you out to Stout, so how many of you are coming out so I can get seats enough for those that are coming. I would love to invite all of the TBLA lunch crowd out to Stout http://www.yelp.com/biz/stout-los-angeles for the home opening of OUR LOS ANGELES DODGERS!

It is time for Dodger baseball and I can think of no better people to ring in the new season than the fans here on TBLA and I can think of no better place to do this than Stout. I invite all of you that are in the Hollywood area to come out for first pitch at 1:05pm LA time to watch as we do battle against the yellow and black suited Pittsburgh Pirates (Thanks for catching this Josie). I am setting this up on the day of the home opener because I can get out of work on this day and actually enjoy the whole game. I wanted to do this for the season opener but I can't get away until the game is over (Damn the man, save the Empire). Come one, come all come down to Hollywood, enjoy lunch and a chilled pint or two and lets root for the home team and show Gaslamp Ball how to have fun.

PS. Josie if you can make it I will buy you lunch and chilled pints.

When: December 9th 6:00pm until we run out of beer.

Why: Because all of the hard work the Mods on this board put in deserves a beer or two and it would be a good time to exchange gifts in a non Karaoke(sp) environment.

As promised here is the fan post that I started talking about a week ago. I have scouted the location (No towers of beer any more they wasted too much trying to fill the tower) and found the spot where I would like to thank the Mods for their year long hard work. Big Wangs Hollywood will be where I would like to buy the Mods a pitcher (Each) of the beer of their choise to say thank you for the hard work that has been put in to keep this site up, running and free from Bearface. Also anybody that shows up and feels so inclined can exchange gifts (Josie, I have your shirt) so come one and all to say thank you.

The update: Damn NBA can't keep it's hands off my date...... We are still a go for Big Wangs I need to get a head count so I can get a section of the bar saved for our band of merry people. As mentioned in other posts lets try and keep the gifts at $10.00 or so.

Throttle Violations - What They Mean to You.

Okay, so this isn't a Miami Dolphins story. But, it is one you might want to read. This is the story behind throttle violations. This is how you can be banned from the site (and all of SB Nation), without a moderator doing anything. It's happened here a few times, most notably to AlejandroN and tusanitunr.

It's all about links. If a comment has more than five links, it's automatically flagged by the system as spam. This flagging is called a "throttle violation."

The system can, and will, ban you if you keep pressing your luck. It's automatic, and I can't remove the ban. The only thing I can do is send an email to SB Nation, and, hopefully, they can get you unlocked (still working on it tuscanitunr).

So, what's the magic number? I don't know. It's when the system feels that you are spamming the site, rather than adding quality to the site, and it does it all on its own.

The added danger here is, apparently it can happen with repeated, quick, Fan Shot postings, as well. This is what got AlejandroN.

You get a warning before you get banned. A little yellow box will pop up and tell you, you are in danger of having this happen to you. The problem, of course, is we all ignore that little yellow box. DON'T! That yellow box is trying to keep you from being banned.

AlejandroN did just as we all would do. He had a great piece of information he was trying to FanShot. The system popped up the warning, and he continued to hit submit to get that information on to the site (Paul Soliai received a contract extension). In ignoring the yellow box, Alejandro fell into a throttle violations ban. Suddenly he was locked out of all SB Nation sites, and every post and comment he has made suddenly vanished.

I am capable of unhiding the posts (which I did), but I can't unban him. Like I said before, all I can do is send an email and wait.

If you are using links in your posts, great. Keep doing it, because links are how all of us stay informed. But, if that yellow box appears - please pay attention to it. We don't need people getting banned because they added a link to a post.
