I've lived in Colorado since '98 and Denver since '03. I went to school for music production here in Denver. I'd love to get into post-production work (especially sound effects and ADR) or do voice work myself.

My favorite teams--and sports, really--are the Colorado Avalanche and Chelsea FC (English soccer/football).

I love to cook, brew beer, and mess around on the computer. I'm also a guitar player (though not in a band) and have played for over 15 years. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/user/guitarpick8120

Hey there, MHH-ettes...

I'm wanting to get a lady friend who I've recently turned onto hockey and the Avs a jersey to commemorate her appreciation of large, toothless men smashing each other into the glass. I want it to be a surprise, so I can't just ask her what size she wears. But...

She's 5'0", in shape weight-wise, and quite busty... is a women's Small not small enough?

Thanks! (laaaaaaadies...)

I'm sure I could be swayed either way. Food for thought, though.

Pretty much what the title says. Oof, it's 2:40am... what am I still doing up?

Hey guys, just finished working on this a few days ago, and wanted to share with you all here.

Nothing hockey related, but since you're all pretty cool people anyway, I thought I'd spread some holiday wishes.

Per the DP... Landy and Elliott are the only 2 rookies remaining.

Just wanted to post this here in case people missed it in the "game day" thread.

Dater mentions the increase in current--and former--Avs tweeting up the twitterverse (I have no idea what I just said). Based on his immediate impact, Gali might be a fun one to follow!

A nice write-up by Dater about the "other" first-round draft pick and how cute and cuddly he is.

Interesting move by the Oil now that other teams have shown interest in big D-men. Perhaps too little, too late?

Per Dater: He thinks it has more to do with Radar being ready, not specifically Foppa signing a deal...

Mile High Hockey I've figured out why Radar is in a bit of a slump...

I work at the Whole Foods in Cherry Creek, so I have a few of the Avs come in periodically:

-- Hannan (and his adorable baby) are quite common

-- Koci is perhaps the most frequent visitor.  Of course, he does have some extra time on his hands.

-- Stats and Gali have come in together a few times -- and it's always strange to see how tall Gali is.  He must really slouch when he skates.

Tonight was the first time I've seen Radar in my store, and he wasn't alone.  Bouncing round the store on his arm was an insanely cute blonde.  Now granted, she didn't look like your typical puck bunny, but still... I'm guessing his PPG will pick up on the next road trip!

Anyway, I'm bored here at work right now, so I thought I'd share.

Mile High Hockey Player Celebration Songs (Updated 12.14.10)

So I thought I would take a recent entry from Copper and Blue and run with the same idea here (in fact, I started with a copy of that exact table and made the obvious player changes and a few formatting tweaks... I hope that's not entirely bad form to copy someone's HTML, it's just that I suck at it).

After reading through our discussion on the topic, I gather that many people are perfectly fine with the standard/classic Fog Horn + "Rock and Roll Pt.2".  I myself wouldn't mind the old avalanche siren back with a different stadium rock standard, but that's just me.

Nevertheless, I figure with all the player nicknames, infinite in-jokes, and the frequent thread-jacks and tangents of which we are all guilty, we can probably come up with some pretty awesome suggestions for player celebration songs.  And while I agree with C&B that we should call them celebration songs instead of goal songs, my reasoning is so we can give Craig Anderson a proper song when he's called out as the #1 star of a game--when he gets healthy of course.

So here's what I suggest (if people even care):

I'll make a bold-faced comment for each player listed below, and you all can reply with song suggestions.  My hope is that we can vote on favorites with "Recs" to determine which makes it onto the graph.  As the votes accumulate, I'll start linking to Youtube (or wherever it can be found).  On that note, please be specific of what song you're talking about (and even what "minute:second" you may be referring) so I can make the appropriate link.

The bottom-half of the comments can be the open-ended, random discussions to which we've all become accustomed.

If anyone has any other suggestions on formatting, adding columns, or a better voting system, please let me know!

This is updated as of the crazy game against Chicago (7-5 win, 3 goals in the last 2:30 minutes!).  I've added ROB, Shatty, Flash, Mauldin, Hunwick and removed Hannan.

Unfortunately commenting is closed for this thread.  If there's really that much interest in updating or changing these, shoot me an email (it's in my profile) or make a note of it in a GD thread as divine inspiration hits you!

Just came across this link on favorite stie of mine (I'm sure most of you are familiar with Instructables). I'm already set to be TRON this year, but for any other Avs fans out there... how 'bout the always promising and entertaining "Yip Yip Monster"?

This is my favorite 'shop so far. It started as just a face-replacement. Then I thought "he should probably be wearing a jersey". Next came the reworking of the red-lettered names. Then the skates. Then the "A" logo...

Anyway, enjoy! And save Ferris!

This is the 2nd one I worked on. The easiest, but I think it works.

For some reason, I started messing around in Photoshop during the Nucks' game tonight. I've been looking for a reason to get back into picture editing, plus I think it helped me relax during the crazy finish. (1 of 4)

There can be only one (that I started with)! I kinda thought McLeod would have a big game--he didn't really, but still. I have a feeling there will be plenty of times to use this in celebration:

Terry Frei has an interesting article about the ticket prices for all NHL teams. He covers "general" upper- and lower-bowl prices and takes into account weekend games. It's rather insightful and a bit of an eye-opener for all those (including myself) claiming the Avs ticket prices are too high.

Mile High Hockey Burgundy/White recap

This may be the first time I've posted here (long time listener, first time caller), but I figured since my folks live in the Springs (my dad teaches at the AF Academy) I'd visit and then head to the game. By the time my dad bought some tickets, they were standing-room only. I sat over the right shoulder of the White team's goalie and had a good view of Hendricks' first goal (nice one-timer over Budaj shoulder) and Stewart's rebounder goal. The replay of White's first goal was a Duchene pass towards Wolksi crashing the net, but it went in off the skate of the Burgundy defender (not sure who).

Anyway, I figure if anyone's interested, here are some players that stood out to me:

Duchene: He didn't have a fantastic game, but he looked confident on his puck-carrying from zone to zone. He's certainly a fluid skater and has some great creativity on his passing. There was a PP in the 2nd period where Duchene, Hejduk, and Wolski interchanged wonderfully.

Jones: Each time I saw him in the offensive zone he was burning holes through the puck with how intently he was focused on it. He wanted to the puck every possession and was crashing the net with some real vigor. If he gets put on a line that can enhance his energy while supporting his aggression, he could have a real breakout year.

Cumiskey: You'd be forgiven for mistaking Cumiskey for Duchene the way he speeds with the puck from defensive zone into the offensive. His skating was real impressive. He jumped into the play frequently and started a lot of Burgundy's offensive breakouts.

Barrie: Each time the White's defense was in correct position to stop a rush or support play out of the zone, I looked at the names on the jersey's and lo-and-behold 9 out of 10 times it was Barrie. He looked as if he'd been playing with this D for a while.

Tucker: He was kind of a dick to start the game. As Dater mentioned, he had a high hit on Liles that sent him to the locker room with a bloody cut on his nose. He then took a nasty slap shot off the foot and was pretty invisible for the remainder of the game.

Stoa: First unoriginal report: he's a big boy. When the starting line was announced (Stoa-Stastny-Hensick) his shoulder pads were over the helmet of Hensick. He played with some real creativity on passing, but he looked sluggish each time he started to skate from a standstill.

Hensick: He was involved with the offense a lot, but nothing spectacular materialized. I hope it's just a confidence issue, because I think he could have a solid year if he takes the role of playmaker/sniper.

Burki/Durno/Stewart: I agree with Dater that these guys clicked really well. Their passes in the neutral zone were tape-to-tape and often made with heavy pressure on the passer.

Goalies: None looked superb, but Anderson had the better game (first two periods at least). He made a shocking save on a Stewart breakaway in the 2nd where he laid down sideways and made a save with his left leg swinging upward. Weiman looked focused but anxious in the 3rd, but was solid.

Hendricks decided to pick two fights. The first was against Durno, but it wasn't so much of a fight as two guys diving into each other and hitting the ice (I immediately thought of the scene from "The Matrix" where Neo and Agent Smith ran towards each other, jumped from half a block away, and grabbed each other in mid-air then fell straight down). They didn't actually serve a penalty... they started towards the sin-bin, but I'm sure the coaches wanted to see them play, not sit around. The announcer said "You've just seen the shortest penalty in the NHL! Not 5 minutes later Stewart was the opponent, but he actually threw some punches and tackled Hendricks to the ice. I assume it was a bit of a joke, but still, it was bizarre. It's a shame Hendricks was on the same team as Koci... would've loved to see him pick a fight with that behemoth.

I was going to take some pictures and video, but I was 20 inches from the net that "protected" us from high-flying pucks and it my camera's lens wouldn't stop focusing on the wrong thing.

Let me know if you have any questions that I might be able to answer. No doubt there's something I wanted to add but simply forgot to mention.
