Posting from my hotel room in Vegas...

So, I haven't been able to join in on any of the live game blogging yet this season, and it's making me a little crazy. You see, my life as a traveling consultant doing "four tens" in the Pacific time zone has me at "the office" well into most game starts. I'm working in sunny Las Vegas for most of the summer - well into August unless I can wrap things up early. On the bright side, I could still be on the East Coast, dreading those road trips through California! Still, I miss you guys!

I'm watching the games as usual, TiVo-ing them at home then playing them back via SlingBox to my laptop in the hotel room. TiVo and SlingBox are two of the best things since, well, night baseball, if you ask me - both have changed my life as a traveling baseball fan. Together, they allow me to not miss a pitch, though my time-shifting does require that I miss the fun banter with you guys, at least until one of those CA road trips. Before last week's red-eye home I even watched the game at the airport via the free wi-fi there (I might need to add free wi-fi to my list of good things). I skim most game blogs after I finish watching the games, interested in how the gang responded to key moments. It's fun, and it is the "next best thing to being there" I guess, even if I am relegated to "lurker" status.

For those that are interested, MLB Extra Innings is much improved this year (on DirecTV anyway - evidently benefiting from the recently launched satellites that added channel capacity), with both "home" and "away" feeds available for most games, and, with the $50 "Superfan" package, the addition of many more HD broadcasts than were available last year. My first taste of HD baseball came during last season's playoff run, and this year's addition of a *lot* of regular-season HD content is truly wonderful (another for the list?). Of course, I can't Sling HD over the Internet...yet, but I can enjoy it when I'm home Friday through Sunday.

I realize I didn't say a whole lot here, but after our boys put together a little two game streak, I just couldn't remain silent. Speaking of remaining silent, I find it hard to bite my tongue these days when I see folks wearing Red Sox gear - for the first time in a long time, I have true animosity towards another team. I like it!

Thanks for reading,
