Hello all--
I'm a local guy, grew up in Sacramento during the Mark Olberding glory years (ahem), went off to UC Davis during the never dull Pete Chilcutt era, finally found some respectability with Mitch Richmond while in grad school, and made it back home in time to thoroughly enjoy the prime years of Webber, Divac, Peja, Doug, and Bibby.
I have some great memories of being at various NBA venues for Kings road games, including a chance to sit behind the Bulls bench during the MJ years, but none compare to Arco when that place is really rockin'.
After years of gleaning tiny tidbits of Kings info from out of state (even out of country!) newspapers, it's hard to believe any of us ever survived without the internet...now I'm bummed if the Kings news isn't updated every few hours! Which makes Sactown Royalty a godsend, even for a guy who is back in the 916 area code.
Go Kings!

From Simmons' recent column, where he uses quotes from "The Wire" to hand out awards for Round 1 of the NBA playoffs....
15. "He's a cold motherfu**ka."
16. "It's a cold world Bodie."
17. "Thought you said it was getting warmer."
18. "The world goin' one way, people another yo'.""You don't know how badly I wanted to give this to Danny Ainge. Let's give it to the Maloofs instead -- they did everything but load T-shirt cannons with horse manure and shoot them at their fans this past season, and then, when their Anaheim move fell through once the league realized that they didn't have the resources to pull it off (and once the Lakers and Clippers mobilized against them), Joe Maloof had the gall to trumpet the team's return to Sacramento for another year by saying, "I think it's the fair thing to do." Even Clay Davis wouldn't have said that. Hey Joe? If you want to be fair, start showing up for home games again, spend more than the salary cap minimum on your roster and stop pretending that Anaheim is a better basketball city than Sacramento just because they have a few wealthy locals who were dumb enough to pay your debts without gaining control of your team."
